Welcome to the 2014 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Carthage.

With the help and support of our fans, member institutions, administrators, coaches and student-athletes, the CCIW enters the 2014-15 academic year as its 69th season of competition, 29th for women’s sports.

The conference is coming off another successful year in 2013-14 with over 1,400 academic all-conference recipients, 14 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans, 33 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients and 87 all-Americans.

The CCIW, recognized as one of the “Best Small-College Conferences in the Nation,” has seen its share of success throughout its time, with 46 NCAA Division III National Championships in 11 different sports won by the membership.

Since the 1991-92 academic year the CCIW has remained consistent in its membership with eight academically superior institutions, including Augustana, Carthage, Elmhurst, Illinois Wesleyan, Millikin, North Central, North Park and Wheaton. Former CCIW member Carroll University, located in Waukesha, Wisconsin, will return to the conference in 2016-17.

In 2007, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, located in Terre Haute, Ind., joined the CCIW as an associate member for men’s and women’s swimming, while in 2014, University of Dubuque, located in Dubuque, Iowa, joined the CCIW as an associate member for men’s and women’s lacrosse.

The CCIW, which sponsors 23 sports, has carried a long tradition of excellence dating back to its inception in 1946, helping student-athletes grow in their athletic as well as educational experience. The CCIW looks to continue that tradition and remains dedicated to helping our student-athletes towards success.

On behalf of the CCIW and its member schools, we would like to thank you for your support and hope you enjoy your experience at all CCIW events.

Sincerely,

Chris Martin Mike KrizmanCommissioner Assistant Commissioner/ Sports Information Director

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) enters 2014-15 as its 69th season of competition, 29th for women’s sports. During the 2013-14 academic year, the CCIW honored over 1,400 academic all-conference recipients, 14 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, 33 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipients and 87 all-Americans. CCIW schools have accounted for 46 national championships in NCAA Division III competition, including 15 in men’s cross country, six in men’s basketball, six in men’s outdoor track and field, four in football and men’s indoor track and field, three in women’s soccer, two in women’s outdoor track & field, women’s basketball and men’s soccer and one apiece in baseball and women’s indoor track and field. Wheaton College won a men’s basketball title under the NCAA College Division in 1957, while North Central College won four National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics titles in men’s swimming (1958, 1961, 1962, 1963). Additionally, Elmhurst College won a pair of NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships (1983 and 1985), and North Central College won a women’s basketball title (1983) before the conference began sponsorship of women’s athletics in 1986-87. The conference was formed with nine charter members (Augustana, Carthage, Elmhurst, Illinois College, Illinois Wesleyan, Lake Forest, Millikin,

North Central and Wheaton) on April 26, 1946, in Jacksonville, Ill., and opened competition in the 1946-47 academic year as the College Conference of Illinois. In 1967, the name was changed to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, to recognize Carthage, which moved to Kenosha, Wis., in 1962 and Carroll, which entered the conference in 1955. CCIW membership has experienced several changes since its inception. After Carthage left in 1952, Illinois College withdrew the following year. Elmhurst and Wheaton withdrew following the 1959-60 academic year. Wheaton rejoined for all sports but football in 1967 and for football in 1970. Elmhurst rejoined in the fall of 1967 for all sports but football and for football in the 1968 season. Carroll joined during the 1955 spring sports season. Carthage returned in the fall of 1961 and North Park entered the following fall. Lake Forest dropped out at the end of the 1962-63 academic year. The last member to leave the CCIW was Carroll following the 1991-92 academic year, but Carroll will return to the CCIW beginning in 2016-17. In 2007, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, located in Terre Haute, Ind., joined the CCIW as an associate member for men’s and women’s swimming. In 2014, University of Dubuque, located in Dubuque, Iowa, joined as an associate member for men’s & women’s lacrosse.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin exists to serve a select group of private colleges and universities of similar size and heritage, which share a deep commitment to superior undergraduate education and a common perspective on the role of intercollegiate athletics in that education. The conference supports the following principles that distinguish the CCIW and its approach to intercollegiate athletics:

* Student-focused approach - CCIW schools place the highest priority on the overall educational experience of the individual student. Athletics are viewed as an important element of a well-rounded education. Student-athletes are integrated into the mainstream of the entire student body, receive no special privileges and are encouraged to participate in other campus groups and activities. The conference supports the active recruitment of student-athletes as a means of achieving the educational aims of each member institution.

* Broad based athletics programs - The CCIW program is wide-ranging in scope, with meaningful

* Fairness and equity - CCIW schools are sensitive and responsive to the needs and interests of both male and female athletes, and are governed by principles of fairness and equity in its approach to funding, staffing and overall support for all sports. Each member institution is expected to fully comply with all NCAA, CCIW and institutional rules and regulations in the operation of its athletics program.

* Overall excellence and national stature of the conference - The CCIW seeks to continually develop and strengthen itself with the goal of recognition of the premier NCAA Division III athletic conference. The CCIW seeks to promote keen competition, the highest level of sportsmanship and the strongest performance possible in each sport.
