PREPARATION – a key to success in any worthwhile venture. And little in life is more important than the education and discipleship of your children for Christ. To help Parents of Preschoolers prepare for home-based discipleship, the CHRISTIAN HERITAGE conference offers many valuable Workshops for prospective or new homeschoolers. But choosing from all the options can be difficult. So we have created our POP’s Track, six Workshops that are well-suited for Parents of Preschoolers … ones that will help you build strong, Biblical foundations for training your family, determine Scriptural goals for your children, and begin a plan for how to reach them – starting now! However, these are just suggestions. Please attend whichever Workshops seem to best fit your family’s needs and interests. And welcome to CHRISTIAN HERITAGE and the wonderful homeschooling adventure!

Dinosaurs Explained for Kids and AdultsFriday, 6:30 p.m., Auditorium A, CD # 14-02Dinosaurs are probably used more than anything to convince children and even adults that the Bible is not true and that you have to believe in millions of years. Sadly, many people think that the Bible has nothing to do with dinosaurs. However, once you accept the true history of the world as given in the Bible (and particularly the first eleven chapters of the book of Genesis), you can easily understand dinosaurs … and thus correctly interpret the evidence from the fossils to correctly understand dinosaurs. Evolutionists speak of an “age of dinosaurs” over millions of years, but in this session, we will talk about the five ages of dinosaurs—having nothing to do with millions of years!

Steadfast in Hope – Defending the Christian FaithSaturday, 4:15 p.m., Auditorium A, CD #14-04Many people have the idea that the battle between Christianity and humanism (or creation and evolution) is a battle over “facts.” However, it’s not that Christians need more facts than non-Christians to supposedly win the argument, for the real battle is actually over the interpretation of the same facts.Until Christians understand that everyone has the same facts but have different interpretations of those facts (based upon different presuppositions or biases), they will not be successful in learning how to defend the Christian faith and think in a true Biblical manner. It’s very possible you will never think the same way about this world after attending this session!

Ken Ham Answers in GenesisBooths 62, 63, 64, 67, 68, 69The president and CEO of Answers in Genesis and the highly acclaimed Creation Museum, Ken Ham is one of the most in-demand Christian speakers in North America. Ken is the author of numerous books and appears frequently on TV. He hosts a daily radio program,

Answers … with Ken Ham, and is an editor and contributing author for AiG’s Answers magazine.

Hope Lies in Standing on the Authority of ScriptureFriday, 9:00 a.m., Auditorium A, CD #14-01Most people have the erroneous idea that the Bible is just a book of religion, morality, and salvation. But the Bible is much more: it’s also a book of history, and deals with the “big picture” aspects of every area of reality, including geology, astronomy, biology, anthropology, physics, and chemistry. The key to developing a Christian worldview and rebuilding the Biblical foundation that has been so undermined in our culture is to use the Bible’s history—encompassing geology, astronomy, biology, etc.—as a pair of Biblical glasses. The Bible’s history can be used to connect the past to the present, enabling us to correctly interpret the scientific evidence of the present so we can then use observational science to confirm the Biblical interpretation. This same history is also foundational to understanding the Gospel, Christian morality, etc. Moral issues such as abortion and gay marriage are all part of this discussion. Learn the foundational reasons as to why we see the decline of Christianity and the collapse of Christian morality in this culture … and how to deal with this.

The Goal of Education Saturday, 8:30 a.m., Auditorium A, CD # 14-03Could it be that the education wars exist not because of differences in strategy, but because of differences in goals? Education exists not to create prosperous members of society, but to equip citizens of the heavenly society. This message will explore the calling of Christian parents not to raise those who will make their way in the world, but those who will make war on the world, who will seek first the kingdom of God.

Workshop A, Friday 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.How Families Changed the World Dr. Marshall Foster • Auditorium A • CD #14-11Join Dr. Marshall Foster as he traces God’s eternal plan of empowering the Christian family to be the foundation of civilization. This message includes exciting stories of transformational families and how to help your family become world-changers.

Breaking Free of the Patterns of Your FathersScott Brown • Auditorium B • CD #14-12Psalm 78 is an appeal to break free from the bad patterns of the fathers of the past and to establish good ones. Breaking the inferior patterns of our fathers is a challenge for all men. Even the best fathers pass on some of their flaws to their offspring. None of us had perfect fathers and they left the marks of their imperfections on all of us. As we will leave the marks of our own imperfections on our children, so we need to lean on the Lord and teach our children to lean on the Lord. The tough part about this is that breaking with the past and making new patterns can be a painful, slow going, and often frustrating business. Amos reveals to us how devastating this problem can be. He said of the men in his day, “Their lies lead them astray, lies which their fathers followed.” (Amos 2:4b)

Is Homeschooling Stressing You Out? A Closer Look at School vs. Education Kelly Crawford • Auditorium C • CD #14-13This workshop presents a practical, logical look at schooling vs. education. Should we question the status quo? Mothers can relax and enjoy the homeschool journey instead of trying to replicate a system which can bring undue stress. The goal: to help mothers “think outside the classroom.”

Pastors’ LuncheonPastor Craig Houston • Room D • CD #14-14Pastors and their wives who signed up before the conference are welcome to join this special luncheon and workshop with host Pastor Craig Houston. After a short introduction to Christian heritage at the beginning of our time together, the Q&A panel including Ken Ham, Pastor Scott Brown, and Pastor David Eddy will discuss how to equip families in discipleship and encourage faithfulness to the local church. The luncheon finishes at 1:00 p.m.

Come… Let’s Go Into All the WorldTerri Johnson • Room E • CD #14-15Learn how to teach geography in an integrated way. Our world is an amazing place! The landscape, the people, the history… they are all intertwined. And it is absolutely delightful to explore the near and far corners of our globe together as a homeschool family. While I am proud to be an American, I realize that we live in one of the most egocentric nations on earth. Together, through the study of geography, we can learn more about the shape of our globe, the struggle of people groups to rule and conquer prime real estate, and the constant shifting of political boundaries. But mostly, we should strive to understand and appreciate the people that God has placed upon this earth and how the lay of the land and the rub of neighbors affect cultures. Come… let’s learn how to go into all the world together as families. (Note: no airline tickets necessary.)

Christians and Pop Culture (Evaluating the Arts)Israel Wayne • Room F • CD #14-16This workshop endeavors to establish a Biblical framework for viewing the arts and multimedia. How can you tell what is good art, literature, or music, and what isn’t? What is a Biblical view of entertainment? Are there some forms of art that are more Christian than others? Learn how art reflects culture and culture reflects religious presuppositions. These issues and more will be explored in this engaging workshop.

Endangered Minds: Raising a Thinking Child in an Electronic World Jennifer Bliesner Room G • CD #14-17From kindergarten to college, our children are bombarded with electronic and digital media. Learn how this alarming trend is arresting the development of critical thinking skills in this generation. From the perceptions of third grade U.S. history to writing a college term paper, our children are beginning to lose the ability to truly think. Understand the four levels of brain development and what you as parents can do to foster a true higher level of critical thinking in your child.

Workshop B, Friday 1:30-2:30 p.m.When Motherhood Feels Too HardKelly Crawford • Auditorium A • CD #14-21Mothers have a difficult job as it is, exacerbated by culture’s disdain of children and a devaluing of motherhood. Sometimes it can feel too hard. Based on my book, this session is a rally cry, a powerful, vision-casting for moms. It will inspire, encourage, and renew the focus on our mission: the eternal work of raising soldiers for Christ and our sanctification through the process.

The Sanctifying Fatherhood of Job Scott Brown • Auditorium B • CD #14-22One of the oldest books in the Bible opens with a picture of a father managing his household well. It begins with a disclosure of Job’s character, and then immediately shifts to his practices as a father. These practices are helpful to us because they display the specific lifestyle patterns of a man of integrity. The example of godly fatherhood that Job gives here does not reveal the full extent of his good work as a father, but what is revealed is helpful in defining for us some of the elements of exemplary fatherhood that all men should seek to emulate.

How to Reach the Secularized World with the GospelKen Ham • Auditorium C • CD #14-23Most evangelistic programs today—and most missionaries—do not see Genesis as a key to reaching people with the Gospel. In these times, however, an understanding of Genesis (e.g. the origin of sin) is foundational to a full understanding of the Gospel message. Also, realizing how our culture thinks (and has changed in its thinking) in relation to earth history is key to knowing how to reach today’s culture with the Gospel and its message of Christian

morality. Christians need to understand the foundational change that has occurred in the culture—and thus the need to use “creation evangelism” if we’re to be successful.

Starting Your Preschooler Off RightJennifer Bliesner • Room D • CD #14-24Jennifer will talk about the big question, “What do they really need to know before kindergarten?” Learn the tricks of the trade to create a lifelong love of learning for your preschooler. How a young child’s brain develops, exciting your child about learning, setting up a learning environment, choosing the right curriculum for your child, identifying your teaching style, and how to avoid burnout are just a few of the topics you will explore in this workshop.

Understanding Your Two “Operating Systems”Christopher Rogers • Room E • CD #14-25When you play an instrument, you use two fundamental “operating systems.” What they are, how they are developed, what their strengths/weaknesses are, and how they function together will revolutionize the way you approach new music. How slow should I start? How many times should I repeat the section? When do I put the hands together? Once I reach top speed, how long should I stay there? Why is playing from memory so hard? You’ll never look at these questions the same again, guaranteed.

Being Salt & Light FamiliesIsrael Wayne • Room F • CD #14-26As homeschoolers, we are often accused of retreating from society instead of impacting it. What is the balance between sheltering our children and reaching out to a lost world around us? This workshop explains how you can equip your children for the “real world” by developing a family ministry.

Young Ladies: Pursuing Life’s Opportunities Panel Discussion • Room G • CD #14-27What’s an unmarried young lady to do? Come and hear the various ways young ladies are currently ministering to their families, reaching out to the needs of others, and pursuing personal development, as panelists answer questions posed by moderator, Dr. Tom Lamar. In addition, time will be given to questions from the audience. This session is presented to encourage young ladies to maximize their time at home.

How Can We Have Creative Projects When I’m Not Creative?Nancy Anderson • Room H • CD #13-28Do you ever scratch your head wondering what creative projects you can incorporate into your children’s learning experiences and you come up with zippo? Well, here is your chance to learn from homeschooling mom, Nancy Anderson, who’s been there and done that. She will explain how small books, folders, pop-ups, paper crafts, calligraphy, and photography are ways to help kids of all ages take knowledge into a visual realm. This is a hands-on workshop. You will not only leave with exciting ideas but also have a list of Nancy’s Favorite Creative Project Resources.

Workshop C, Friday 3:15-4:15 p.m.Inside the Brain of a Hyperactive HomeschoolerIsrael Wayne • Auditorium A • CD #14-31If you have a hyperactive or easily distractible child, you won’t want to miss this informative and sometimes humorous message that shares the perspective of a homeschooling father who was once a hyperactive homeschooled child. You will receive practical and Biblical insights into ADD/ADHD and will be encouraged that there is hope for your child!

Lot, the Worldly FatherScott Brown • Auditorium B • CD #14-32As we survey the Scriptures, we find that the protection of daughters reached a low point in Lot’s household in Sodom. This story illustrates Lot’s devastating syncretism in Sodom. While the protection of Lot’s daughters is only one of many themes in the narrative, what is described here gives us a vivid and startling example of what a lack of protection by a father looks like and helps us to understand how he, through poor choices, can abdicate his responsibility bit by bit, resulting in a daughter’s grave peril. For we who are living in the “Sodom” of our time, this should cause us to ask ourselves several questions, one of which is, “What pressures are there in our culture that would cause us to withdraw protection from our daughters and leave them vulnerable?”

Practical Help Living on One IncomeKelly Crawford • Auditorium C • CD #14-33Based on Kelly’s personal experience, this session offers encouragement, motivation, and practical ideas for those struggling financially, as well as examples of how God can profoundly use financial trials in our lives for our good.

Choosing and Adapting CurriculumJennifer Bliesner • Room D • CD #14-34Don’t waste money and time buying the wrong curriculum. Learn how to choose curriculum based on your teaching style as well as your child’s learning style. This is a great session for parents of more than one child; you’ll learn how to adapt curriculum to fit more than one student.

What the History Books Never Told YouDr. Marshall Foster • Room E • CD #14-35The wide-spread perversion of history has robbed our nation of its heritage. Join Marshall as he takes a survey of the major theme and direction of God’s hand in history in contrast to a secular point of view.

Getting Started: An Overview of the Homeschool Law in Washington StateScott & DiAnna Brannan • Room G • CD #14-37This workshop covers the basics of Washington’s homeschool law and answers many common questions. You will also be given an overview of public school-at-home programs. These programs are often confused with homeschooling, but are in fact vastly different. The best way to protect our freedom is to know our rights under the law!

Teaching with TechTerri Johnson • Room H • CD #14-38In this fast moving society where technological advances are made daily, it can be hard to keep up. And frankly, it’s not necessary. While it may feel as though we are the first generation to deal with such high-tech advancements, especially in the realm of education, that is certainly not the case. In this workshop, we will explore the history of technology and today’s techy gadgets and how they can be used to make teaching a variety of subjects easier. We’ll discuss fear and potential dangers. We’ll discuss safeguards and proper handling of the modern day magical devices most of us carry in our pockets. This fast-paced workshop will equip you with strategies and specific app suggestions for a variety of subjects. (Note: strong emphasis on Kindle and Apple.)

Workshop D, Saturday 10:15-11:15 a.m. The Profile of a Courageous Father Scott Brown • Auditorium A • CD #14-41Families need courageous fathers. This is the kind of fatherly leadership that we see in Joshua, the son of Nun. Joshua was a true man. He was not proving himself to be a man by living out some kind of worldly macho testosterone expression session. He proved himself by being a highly principled, visionary, and courageous man who walked according to the counsels of God. He is an inspiring example of a man who understood his role. When Joshua declared, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”, he was laying claim to a position of headship over his family. In this statement we find a mixture of courage and vision. He believed that his family was his. He saw himself as a steward who was fully responsible for a particular house for he calls it “my house.” A family was given to him by Almighty God.

One Race, One BloodKen Ham • Auditorium B • CD #14-42Because much of the church has adopted the secular world’s teachings regarding the different “races” and has not accepted the Biblical view, most Christians have lost a vital truth concerning the Scriptural teaching on the two spiritual races (but only one physical race). This discussion will cover such intriguing topics as: the origin of so called “races,” skin “color” (is there really more than one color?), “inter-racial” marriage, the curse of Ham, the devastating effects of racism in the culture and the church. There is only one race—the human race! And we are all descendants of one man, Adam.

God’s Heart Toward ChildrenKelly Crawford • Auditorium C • CD #14-43A closer look at fertility through the eyes of the Creator, questioning our culture’s disdain of motherhood and child-bearing, and reminding mothers of their critical role in the Kingdom work of raising disciples.

God’s Word: The Foundation of LibertyDr. Marshall Foster • Room D • CD #14-44Maximum liberty requires a righteous people. William Penn said, “Men must be governed by God or they will be ruled by tyrants.” Trace back to the foundation upon which the greatest, most freedom-loving countries in history were built: God’s Word.

The Three G’sDr. R. C. Sproul, Jr. • Room E • CD #14-45Too often Christians fight the culture wars by clamoring for the world as it was thirty years ago. We are more conservative than those Christians, rightly rejecting all the political correctness and New Age gobbledy-gook of the state schools, but wrongly longing for reading, ‘riting, and ‘rithmetic. The Bible instead says in Deuteronomy 6 that we are to teach our children the three G’s: who God is, what God has done, and what God requires. Come to this Workshop to see that the Bible isn’t the “foundation” of our curriculum, but “is” our curriculum.

The Family CultureIsrael Wayne • Room F • CD #14-46The family is the first institution into which children are born. Their parents are the ones who raise them, care for them, and train them until they reach adulthood. What is the role of parents in finding a mate and in helping their child to get to the marriage altar the right way? This session describes ingredients that should be in place to experience God’s best regarding marriage.

Teaching Special Needs Children Jennifer Bliesner Room G • CD #14-47All children have special needs, but some have more challenges than others. Learn how to adapt and plan an effective curriculum so that your child shows measurable progress. Explore the stumbling blocks that can prevent true learning. This session covers challenges with visual memory and reading to children with extremely low I.Q’s. Topics include: the importance of discovering your child’s disability, choosing curriculum, goals, how to tailor your teaching to your child’s unique needs, how to involve siblings, a child’s emotional needs, looking to the future, and preparing your child for adulthood.

Teaching and Grading WritingTelisa Williams • Room H • CD #14-48Teaching writing and evaluating your student’s work may be simpler than it seems! Capture the vision for writing instruction that leans on God’s structured design of the language. Receive ideas for nurturing your student’s skills with a discipleship approach to teaching, clear assignments based on patterns of the language, and productive evaluations that encourage students toward strength in writing. Parents will come away with practical tips and inspiration to free both teacher and student for new growth in writing.

Workshop E, Saturday 12:45-1:45 p.m. Six Days or Millions of Years?Ken Ham • Auditorium A • CD #14-51The Bible states that if Christ be not raised from the dead, our faith is in vain. Of course, it doesn’t say that if you refuse to believe in six literal days of creation your faith is in vain. While it’s true that people can believe in millions of years of earth history and reject the six literal days of Creation (so prevalent today in the church and its Christian leaders) and still be born-again Christians, this compromise has been a key factor in undermining Biblical authority, leading to a loss of Christian morality in our culture.

Fathers Who Help Their Children Get Married Scott Brown • Auditorium B • CD #14-52The story of Genesis 24 is a wonderful example of godly family life. As a visionary father, Abraham determines the criteria for selection of a wife for his son Isaac, and he dispatches his most trusted servant to find her. He is comforted by the fact that God Almighty is with him and will guide his servant in this journey. Not only do we see a father helping his son get married, but we also see God deploying an angel to make sure that all goes according to His will. Perhaps this is a way God shows us how important marriage is to His plan. Notice the vision, the trust in God, and the exemplary plan in the heart of a father. Observe the submissiveness of the son to the judgments and plans of his father.

Raising Entrepreneurs (And Why It Matters)Kelly Crawford • Auditorium C • CD #14-53From an entrepreneurial family, I share how to inspire your young entrepreneurs and why it’s so important in the realm of building the Kingdom.

Restoring the City on a HillDr. Marshall Foster • Room D • CD #14-54John Winthrop used the phrase “city on a hill” to admonish the Massachusetts Bay colonists as they set out to begin a Christian community and nation. Learn the strategy to restore our nation as it is laid out on America’s largest granite monument. How can you do your part in restoring the vision for a “city on a hill”?

Approaching Education Biblically: What Is the Purpose of a College Education?Dr. R. C. Sproul, Jr. • Room E • CD #14-55In years past, college was designed to give a man a “liberal education,” to equip him to live as befits a free man. In our day, it is more designed to prepare a man for a career. While living as free men and having jobs may be good things, the real end of all education, as John Milton argued, is to repair the ruins of our first parents, to learn again to love God aright. This talk will explore how education is still discipleship, even in college; how we ought not to prepare our children for the “great conversation” but for the “great confrontation;” the continuing battle between the Seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent; and how what our children still need to know is God’s Word.

The Musician’s Logic Christopher Rogers • Room F • CD #14-56This incredibly practical lecture focuses on proven, systematic thought processes that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of problem solving, creative thinking, analysis, and performance. How well we understand the steps of logic in each of these areas will dictate the quality and speed of our learning. They radically impact our approach to practice and performance, answer almost all study questions, are applicable to all musicians, and in the end effect just about everything we do in life. Implement these logic processes and you will never think the same again.

Young Men: Their Pursuits in Employment & BusinessPanel Discussion • Room G • CD #14-57Come and glean wisdom and ideas from the experiences of young men who have purposely sought to use their God-given skills and abilities in the area of employment and business. This discussion seeks to encourage young men to maximize their time to prepare financially for the future as panelists answer questions posed by moderator, Dr. Tom Lamar. In addition, time will be given to questions from the audience. This session is presented to rally young men to action.

What About Socialization?Israel Wayne • Room H • CD #14-58Do you know where the theory of peer group socialization originated? Learn what really drives the question: “What About Socialization?” Also, Israel will provide you with four questions you can ask to determine whether your child’s socialization activities are beneficial to your family. Israel shares candidly from his dual perspectives as a homeschooled student and father.

Workshop F, Saturday 2:15-3:15 p.m.The Mission Field of Motherhood (Psst...It’s Enough)Kelly Crawford • Auditorium A • CD #14-61While most mission work is elevated to a status of honor and respect, motherhood isn’t usually viewed the same way, even within the church. Consequently, many women are overloaded by church ministry, fueled by guilt, while their mission field at home suffers. It’s time for us to tell mothers that making disciples of the next generation is enough.

Fathers’ Hearts Turning Toward HomeScott Brown • Auditorium B • CD #14-62In a very dramatic chapter of the Bible, we see the message of the Old Testament drawn together in one last prophetic testimony from God. It will not be until the ministry of John the Baptist, nearly 400 years later, that the prophetic testimony will be renewed. In Malachi chapter 4, we see the secret of family reformation and the unmasking of the most important underlying force in family life – the spiritual revival of hearts. Fathers should take note of a simple fact from this amazing chapter. These final words of the Old Testament address the issue of the condition of the hearts of fathers toward their children and of children toward their fathers. Additionally, Malachi helps us to answer the question: “What does the Gospel have to do with my family?”

View Mt. St. Helens, track the Missoula Flood across eastern Washington, trace the Ice Age in the Cascades and Lake Chelan, and the quick formation of the Olympic Peninsula. Kyle will share route plans and special places to visit along the way. Families will be able to visit these locations later and understand them from a Biblical worldview and the perspective of the Flood.

The Secrets of Winning Against Terror at All OddsDr. Marshall Foster • Room D • CD #14-64Recent years have held an increase in what has been termed “terror.” At times, these evil acts perpetrated by wicked men can seem unstoppable. But in this workshop, Marshall will take a good look at the secrets of success in history’s greatest turning points where the terror of evil was defeated by the triumph of truth.

Calling Them BlessedDr. R. C. Sproul, Jr. • Room E • CD #14-65“Education,” G. K. Chesterton said, “is nothing more than parents passing on their convictions to their children.” Nothing, in turn, blesses a parent more than when their children embrace those convictions. As we mature, our calling is to honor our parents more, not less; to rise up and call them blessed, by passing on God’s wisdom to the next generation.

Do We Really Have to Get Sick?Dr. Michael Eberle • Room F • CD #14-66The Bible holds the answers for many of our health concerns. We need to understand the importance of how God made the body to last forever and then answer two questions: What’s wrong with me? How can I get and stay well? Dr. Michael Eberle will discuss the Biblical role of disease and illness and the importance of how God deals with sickness in the Bible.

Facing the Giant - Homeschooling through High SchoolTerri Johnson • Room G • CD #14-67Terri, a homeschooling parent for sixteen years who has graduated two and has four more to go, will help you gain a vision for homeschooling through the high school years. We’ll discuss the benefits, the challenges, the record-keeping, and the decision to continue homeschooling until graduation. This workshop will help you with the big picture and the nitty-gritty details of homeschooling through high school. Trust me… these can be the best years of your homeschool journey.

Developing Public Speaking SkillsIsrael Wayne • Room H • CD #14-68Some studies say that the fear of public speaking is greater than the fear of dying! If you can develop your thoughts into a compelling presentation, and then communicate effectively, you will be given opportunities to influence the culture. Drawing on over eighteen years of experience as a public speaker, this session will be practical and encouraging for you as a parent, and helpful as you prepare your children to do public speaking.
