Welcome to the 28th Annual Auction to benefit the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust. Please take a moment to read Chairman Ian Coghill’s and Chief Executive Teresa Dent’s update below. On behalf of the Trustees of GCUSA, thank you for your continued support of this important work. We hope you will enjoy the evening.

Bruce D. Sargent, President, GCUSA

Dear American Friends of Game and Wildlife Conservation;

We are delighted to welcome you to our 2014 New York auction, and want to send the warmest possible thanks to Bruce Sargent, his excellent team of trustees and, Robyn Hatch who do such wonderful work for us in the USA.

As Chairman and Chief Executive, we spend our time looking forward, to anticipate the next challenge and opportunity. When we look back, however, we see most clearly how much has changed in recent years.

The Game Conservancy has always espoused a policy of wildlife management, and this is now the very policy adopted in Scotland and England, and increasingly in Wales. It replaces simple species protection, which on its own is not enough. One of the most noticeable and recent shifts is a growing consensus among conservationists that we cannot achieve species recovery for ground nesting birds, the grey partridge among them, without protecting them from predators.

This policy shift is profound. It means we move from the passive to the active, from expecting nature to find a balance, to making informed choices about the balance we want, from stepping back, to stepping up, and from making a fuss about problems, to enacting solutions.

The Game Conservancy exists both to research and put into practice the solutions that will achieve our mission of a thriving countryside, rich in game and wildlife. It is our job to persuade everyone who works on the land, to do the right thing for nature. The fact that we have witnessed a profound change in attitude over the last few years is an enormous tribute to the hard work of our professional staff, and to the commitment and generosity of our individual supporters and donors. On behalf of the Trust and its scientific team would like to thank Game Conservancy USA for your continued and critical support of our conservation initiatives.

Ian Coghill, Chairman Teresa Dent, Chief Executive

Magnum of 2003 Dancing HaresKindly donated by Paula Brooks, Dancing Hares Vineyard

The inaugural estate vintage, 2003 Dancing Hares was first released in 2011 and has evolved into an alluring, graceful example of what this special vineyard can deliver. The wine has developed a very attractive bottle bouquet, with aromas of dried sage, fresh thyme, and exotic hardwood, mingling with deep, ripe berry aromas. The tannins have softened and rounded with time, and bring a soft, silky entry on the palate. The dense fruit at the wine’s core lingers, leaving a mouth-watering, complex finish. This wine has arrived at an exciting time in its evolution, and should continue to develop well in the near future. Blend: 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc. Aging: Aged for 22 months in 85% new French Oak barrels.

UNITED KINGDOM EXCURSIONSFrequently Asked Questions Will I need to bring to my gun? For most shooting excursions to the UK, you will need to bring your own gun. A permit for each gun is required, which can be arranged through the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust (GWCT). For certain shooting locales near London, guns can be rented.

Are these shoots commercially available? These shoots are private and normally unobtainable on the open market.

What expenses are not included in the trip price? The following expenses are not included: Transportation to the shooting destination, tipping, (typically £100/Day), and cartridges.

What transportation is provided? If the shoot involves travel to more than one location, the host will make the local travel arrangements.

Are spouses allowed on the shoot? Yes, spouses may accompany the shooter on the peg.

Are there activities for non-shooting spouses? This will depend on location, but usually trips to nearby metropolitan centers for sightseeing and/or shopping can be arranged.

Are the dates of the shooting trips flexible? As these events take place on private estates, the shooting dates are firm.

Payment terms: Payment for live auction items is expected within 45 days of the conclusion of the auction. If required, extension arrangements should be made with GCUSA office.

What part of the purchase price is tax-deductable? Contributions above the fair market value of the lots can be considered a tax-deductable contribution to the GCUSA. Fair market value is generally determined based on a seasonal ”cost per bird.”

Is there VAT tax assessed on the purchase price? No. UK excursions purchased at auction through the GCUSA/GWCT are not subject to the 20% VAT tax.

Are these trips subject to any letting or agent fees? No, unlike most driven shoots taken in the UK, these are not subject to a 10-15% ”letting” fee.
