The latest development of
international criteria on food
microbiology June 19, 2014, Beijing
Situation of China’s food microbiological standard
Experiences on microorganism control during production and operation
Main messages
Pathogens control should be the first priority in setting microbiological standards in food.
The ICMSF pathogen criteria in foods is adopted in the new Chinese standards.
Indicator bacteria (e.g. TPC, coliform) should be gradually removed from food product standards and used in process control in value chain.
Indicator bacteria criteria will be remained in ready-to-eat foods.

Progress of YingYangBao in China
Effectiveness study of YingYangBao in 5 poor counties, Gansu province (2001 – 2007)
Application of YingYangBao and the draft of national food standards (2008 – March, 2009)
Scaling up the application of YingYangBao (March, 2009 – )
In 2014, China government invested 80 million USD in 341 poor counties
offering free YingYangBao (1 sachet/day /child) for 1.4 million children aged 6-
24 months
Social Marketing of YingYangBao in Bengbu, Anhui
About 1,200 children received free YYB, anemia prevalence among children from poor family decreased from 37% to 3% in 6 months.
Doctors from township hospitals and village clinics, parents/care-providers were trained.
Promotion - advertising wall, posters, displaying board and manual of YYB use.
About 2,200 children in 132 villages bought YYB.
