CHALLENGE BY CHOICE Guests define their own success by setting individual goals with their instructors, who then chart out their progression through the week. While allowing guests to develop at their own pace, this approach lets them push themselves to new limits and try new things beyond their comfort level. We believe that active participation at each activity is more important than the outcome. We want to ensure that each activity is a positive experience and that it follows our trademark: FUN!

RECOGNIZING & REWARDING GROWTH : AAAOur Athletic Achievement Awards Program rewards guests who show improvement in their chosen activities. Our Gold, Silver and Bronze levels allow all guests, whether skilled or just starting out, to be recognized for their accomplishments. Achievement at Muskoka Woods goes beyond just athletic or artistic ability. We recognize guests who excel in areas of creativity, confidence, teamwork, and perseverance.

TEACHING YOUNG PEOPLE TO EVALUATE AND MANAGE RISK: JSMARTSTaking risks is part of life and there is some level of risk in camp activities. Building upon activity guidelines, we use the JSmarts program and their practical tool called the “Circle Check.” Guests consider four simple questions to think about risks and their impact: Should I? Could I? Would I? and What If? The “Circle Check” encourages our guests to take their time, slow down, and “Think it Thru” before making a decision.

FIRST CLASS FACILITIES & EQUIPMENTMuskoka Woods has strived to exceed the expectations of our guests for the past 35 years. This commitment continues with the selection of high quality equipment from leading manufacturers. New equipment is purchased regularly and existing equipment is inspected on a regular basis.

A SAFE PLACEFOR YOURCHILD TO GROW. . . .

Camp is an incredibly positive environment for young people, brimming with life, possibility and celebration. When you send your children to camp for a week, you are entrusting them into our care and we fully appreciate that responsibility. Caring for your children is our primary concern and our wonderful privilege! We have a deep desire to see young people develop in all areas of their lives. Here are some of the ways we ensure that Muskoka Woods is a safe place for your child to grow.

YOUR CHILDIS OUR GUEST

....

At Muskoka Woods, we understand that every guest is unique and kids grow up fast! We know how to bring the laughter and the FUN to every age and stage. We organize our guests into age-based sections. Whether your child is in WILD, Venture, Junior High or Senior High, we’ve created a distinct program that will engage them right where they are, and help them grow into all they can be.

AGES 7-9

WILD is all about adventure and imagination. WILD guests travel in cabin groups with their very own host to over 12 exciting arts and athletic activities including archery, kayaking, arts and crafts, golf and more. Along the way they make new friends, pick up new skills, and discover new things about themselves in a safe, secure, non-competitive environment. Things get really WILD in the evenings with songs, skits, campfires and silly games.

MUSKOKAWOODS.COM 6

AGES 10-11

Venture guests are in for an awesome week of having fun, making friends and setting out on their own adventures. Guests spend two of their six daily activity periods with their cabin group, experiencing some of the best Muskoka Woods has to offer. The remaining activity periods are theirs to choose – and with 50 arts and athletics options, they are sure to find something that makes them shine. Venture evenings are full of off-the-wall wide games, scavenger hunts and the famous Carnival.

AGES 12-13

Junior High guests dive into an action packed week of fun, learning new skills, growing their confidence, and making lifelong friendships. From a choice of 50 amazing activities, Junior High guests have the freedom to design their own perfect camp experience. Cut through the waves on sailboards, soar across camp on a zipline, or host a live radio show for the whole camp. The Junior High evening program is known for the craziest wide games, counsellor hunts and messy nights.

AGES 14-17

Senior High is the ultimate camp experience. Guests know what they like, and they make their own schedule as wild or relaxing as they want it. Whether they hang out at the beach with new friends, focus on taking their athletics skills to the next level, or try out fashion design, drama or digital photography, it’s bound to be unforgettable. In the evening, guests bond with their cabin as they try to win the Kamati Cup or race around camp during phenomenal wide games. Fun is the name of the game in Senior High!

Wait…don’t forget Classic, our Senior High-only, end-of-summer extravaganza. There is nothing like it.

AGES 15-17

CEO guests love camp, but they are ready for something more: Challenge, Experience and Opportunity.

The CEO Program is a four-week leadership development program that goes way beyond arts and athletics.

CEOs have exclusive access to the state of the art Muskoka Woods Leadership Studio. Using some of the best and most innovative leadership development material out there, experiential workshops help CEOs identify their strengths and build the skills they need to be exceptional leaders.

CEOs practice leadership in real life, assisting Muskoka Woods staff at a skill of their choice, and debriefing the experience through artful feedback.

While they are at it, CEOs have plenty of fun—experiencing nature close up on a four-day canoe trip, teetering on the high ropes course, and having a rocking good time at evening activities. Not only that, they make friendships that last a lifetime.

CEOs get a full grade 11 credit (GPP-30 Leadership & Peer Support) with successful graduation.

Space is limited! Acceptance is by application(due January 24th) and interview.

HEALTH & ALLERGY CONCERNSMany children attending Muskoka Woods have specific allergies and some can be life-threatening. We take these allergies seriously, and do all we can to reduce the risk of exposure. Though Muskoka Woods cannot guarantee to be a peanut-free environment, we do not use or serve peanuts, peanut products or tree nuts. Certain products have “may contain traces of nuts” labels, so guests with life-threatening allergies should consult with the kitchen staff regarding foods served at each meal and check labels on products in the Tuck Shop. We ask that guests do not bring snacks or food from home that may contain nuts. All guests who carry an EpiPen are asked to have it with them at all times. They will be asked to wear a specific wristband that alerts our staff to their health concerns.

HOMESICKNESSBeing away from home can be a challenging endeavor for some kids. As such, homesickness is a natural occurrence within the camp setting. Our staff are trained to notice and respond to guests who are experiencing early signs of homesickness. In our experience, it is most prevalent at the beginning of the week and usually subsides by midweek. Since calling home often amplifies homesickness, younger guests (7-11) are not encouraged to call home unless you have notified us otherwise. If you receive a call from your child, we suggest focusing on the fun they are having and the exciting things they are learning.

. . . .

MUSKOKA WOODS IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING THE BEST POSSIBLE HEALTH CARE FOR YOUR CHILD WHILE THEY ARE AT CAMP.

Our Health Care Centre is staffed with several full-time registered nurses and one doctor in residence. On opening day, you are welcome to drop by our Health Care Centre to meet our staff! The medical team attends to emergency medical needs 24 hours a day. For routine consultations and medication, the Health Care Centre is open at three convenient times each day. All guests must submit a completed health form, including health insurance (Ontario Health Card or equivalent).

PRESCRIPTIONS AND MEDICATIONUpon arrival at Muskoka Woods, all medication needs to be taken to the Health Care Centre. Medication must be brought in its original prescription bottle or package in order to be administered by our Health Care staff. Should it be necessary for our doctor to prescribe special medication during your child's stay, parents will be billed for the cost of the medication.

Guests at Muskoka Woods stay in cabin groups of 8-10 children, with assigned counsellors. Cabin life is full of fun and new friendships, as well as opportunities for teamwork and leadership. Our counsellors are attentive, rested and full of genuine love and kindness for our guests. They see our guests for who they are and who they can become. They stretch them to be more than they thought possible. And they support them with genuine care and energetic encouragement.

DISCIPLINEOur priority is to ensure that all guests at Muskoka Woods have a safe and positive experience. Leadership staff at Muskoka Woods are skilled and experienced in handling behavioural concerns. If issues arise, we evaluate the situation and act appropriately.

BULLYINGAt Muskoka Woods, we are committed to ensure that camp is a safe place for all children. We outline all our camp rules, including our policy on bullying, on opening night. Our staff are trained to handle concerns about bullying with immediate and appropriate action.

PERSONAL BELONGINGSMuskoka Woods does not assume responsibility for lost or stolen articles. We strongly advise our guests to secure their valuable belongings in a lockable suitcase or trunk. Better yet, if you are concerned about the security of items like iPods, cell phones, computers or other valuables, leave them at home!

LIFE INTHE CABIN

INSPIRING YOUTH TO SHAPE THEIR WORLDAt Muskoka Woods, we invite our guests to explore their beliefs. Our hope is to inspire young people to think in new ways about how to shape their world. Whatever the occasion, our interaction with guests is always age-appropriate and respectful of diverse spiritual traditions.

CONVERSATION CAFÉ AND CABIN CHATEvery evening, Conversation Café or Cabin Chat creates a safe space for guests to listen, laugh and share on topics like personal values, character formation, and Christian beliefs.

IMPACT AND SPARKOnce a week, guests gather for a large, entertaining multi-media show. Part concert, part theatre, part motivational speaker, Impact and Spark are designed to flow out of our Conversation Café and Cabin Chat themes.
