All seven of New Haven’s losses came against nationally-ranked competition, and the Chargers also won two contests against ranked opponents en route to an NE-10 postseason win and triptotheconferencesemifinals. In 2012, Fallon guided the Chargers to a 13-5 record and a national ranking as high as No. 6 from the IWLCA. The season included a victory over No. 3 and eventual national champion C.W. Post as one of New Haven’s four triumphs over nationally-ranked opponents. Ashley Ferrandiz, Aubrey Duncan and Alexis Gabbe all earned IWLCA All-America status and headed a list of six Chargers to earn All-Northeast-10 lau-rels. Fallon was recognized by her peers as the conference’s Coach of the Year for the second time in four seasons as a member of the NE-10. Fallon previously earned NE-10 Coach of the Year laurels in 2009–NewHaven’sfirstseasonasamemberofthepresti-gious Division II conference. 2014 PREVIEW

The University of New Haven women’s lacrosse team returns 20 student-athletes who saw action in 2013 with hopes of making its sixth straight postseason appearance and the second NCAA post-season trip in program history. New Haven posted a 12-7 record last seasonandmadeitssecondNortheast-10Championshipsemifi-nalappearanceinfiveyearsasamemberoftheconference.TheChargers went 9-3 in conference play to earn the fourth seed and defeatedNo.13BentleyinthefirstroundoftheNE-10Champion-ship.TheseasonconcludedinthesemifinalsateventualchampionsNo. 4 Le Moyne. New Haven concluded the season ranked No. 13 in the IWLCA Division II Coaches’ Poll after climbing as high as No. 8 during the regular season.

ATTACKDespite the loss of one of the program’s top scorers, a veteran group returns to the UNH front line. Senior Nicole McKee leads a corps of four attackers that saw action in nearly every game last season. In 2013, she scored 56 points off 55 goals and an assist. She started all 19 games and was second on the team with 61 draw controls. Fellow senior and team co-captain Marissa Fisher will add to the ex-perienced tandem up top. She also played in all 19 games last year with 15 goals and two assists. Fisher added 18 ground balls.

A pair of sophomores, Courtney Ackland and Maya Szymanski, add even more depth to the offensive starters for UNH. The two com-bined for 37 starts and 45 points last season. Ackland’s primary role of distributing the ball from behind the offensive net will continue to expand as she’s looked to for additional scoring. She netted 27 goals and handed out seven assists in her freshman campaign. Szymanski’s role will also grow after starting 18 games and record-ing nine goals last season.

Junior Ashley Travis, who saw an expanded role in 13 games last season, will against see an increased role after contributing two goals in her sophomore season.

Two more sophomores, Alicia Busco and Devon Previte round out a strong class of 2016 attackers for UNH. The pair will see additional

minutes in 2014 after seeing action in 15 games and scoring six combined goals in their rookie campaigns.

Caitlin O’Brien and Lindsay Lare help lead the freshman class this season for the Chargers. A First Team All-Cape Atlantic League selec-tion, Lare claimed the record for career goals (130) and single-sea-son goals (81) at Lower Cape May Regional High School. A member of the All-State and All-Southern Connecticut Conference teams in 2012 and 2013, O’Brien comes to UNH from Branford High School just down the Connecticut Shoreline as a taller left-handed attacker.

The team’s second-leading scorer last year, Campbell started all 19 games with 45 goals and a team-best 29 assists. She will again take a majority of the draw responsibilities as the team leader with 71 draw controls from a year ago. She was also one of the best all-around players with 37 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers in the transition game in 2014.

SophomoreCorinneFisherhopestostepintothemidfieldwiththeloss of veteran Kristina Curry. Fisher played in 13 games last season with six goals and one assist. The Jackson, N.J. native may also see time taking the draw for the Chargers. A couple of juniors will anchor the last line: Samantha Clyne and Brittany Ast. Both started all 19 games a year ago and contributed to one of the best defenses in the NE-10. In the past seven years alone, enrollment has grown by 42 percent to more than 6,400 undergraduate and graduate students, who

hail from 35 states and some 45 countries. Full-time undergraduate enrollment has grown by 86 percent and applications have increased by 176 percent. During this time, the University has completed over $110 million in construction projects and has launched 17 new academic programs.

project before graduation.

Previously, Dr. Kaplan was chancellor and professor of English at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, the only four-year branch campus of the University of Virginia and one of the nation’s best public colleges, according to U. S. News & World Report.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an NCAA Division II conference that was established in 1979. The conference consists of 15 member institutions located throughout the Northeast in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont.

The inst i tut ions that make up the Northeast-10 include Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.), American International College (Springfield, Mass.), Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, N.H.), Le Moyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), Merrimack College (North Andover, Mass.), University of New Haven (West Haven, Conn.), Pace University (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Saint Anselm College (Manchester, N.H.), Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), The College of Saint Rose (Albany, N.Y.), Southern Connecticut State University (New Haven, Conn.), Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.), and Stonehill College (Easton, Mass.). The 15 member institutions are spread geographically from Syracuse, N.Y. to Waltham, Mass. and Colchester, Vt. to Garden City, N.Y.

Many of the members are located in or around the metropolitan areas of Albany, Boston, Manchester, New Haven, Worcester, and New York City. The conference was proud to welcome the New Haven and Adelphi in its latest expansion, adding to the powerful union of strong academic and athletic institutions.

The Northeast-10 has evolved into a membership committed to competitive athletics programs that emphasize the education, bothonandoffthefield, ofmorethan 6,000 student athletes. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are NCAA Division II national championships in women’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’strackandfield, andmen’sand women’s swimming and diving.

In all, 80 different Northeast-10 Conference teams were selected to participate in NCAA Championship play during the 2012-13 academic year. The 80 programs represented 15 of the 16 conference institutions.

Fromthefieldofplaytoinsidetheclassroom, the Nor theast-10 honored a number of student-athletes for their academic accomplishments. Over 50 percent of all conference student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA throughout the 2011-12 academic year and were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a result. Of the nearly 6,000 honor roll selections for the fall and spring, 244 earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. The conference also honored 260 student-athletes that excelledatahigh level on thefieldand inthe classroom as members of academic all-conference teams.

Today’s Northeast-10 Conference remains focused on complementing the academic integrity and missions of its member institutions with a commitment to a broad-based championship program, as evidenced by the 23 sports the conference offers in championship play, the most such of any Division II conference.

Through the establishment and enforcement of regulations, the conference aims to encourage policies that enable intercollegiate athletics programs to contribute to and be considered an integral part of the total educational of ferings at our member institutions. The Northeast-10 can look to a long history of success including the growth from seven original member institutions to more than double its size 30 years later, the contention for and winning of multiple national championships, and the recognition ofstudent-athleteperformancesoffthefieldand in the classroom.
