    More4Appshas been something of a revelation to

    me and is now heavily relied on by our business

    as we move forward with our migration from JD

    Edwards to Oracle R12. We have a number of AP and

    AR interfaces that I had written over the years, and

    when initially faced with the move to Oracle, my first

    thought was How are we going to get this data in?

    For GL data we use Web ADI, but nothing like this

    exists for AR, AP, Fixed Assets, Cash Management,

    etc.

    On hearing of the More4Apps tool from our parent

    company in the US, we immediately purchased

    perpetual licenses for nearly all of the wizards. To my

    mind it has been the best investment ever!

    It seems that every week I was asked to build a new

    interface, which now can be replaced with AP Invoice

    Wizard or AR Invoice Wizard. The ease in which they

    can be implemented, coupled with the extraordinary

    level of service and support from the More4Apps

    team, is simply fantastic. This makes what once

    seemed to be a daunting effort now a straightforward

    exercise.

    There have been a couple of instances where we

    requested enhancements to the wizards, and these

    have been delivered with astonishing speed. Working

    in a world where product releases happen every

    quarter at best, this is truly refreshing!

    We recently also faced issues with custom load scripts

    that had been written for us by our integration partner

    to migrate our legacy AP Supplier data into Oracle.With deadlines fast approaching, we had to cease

    development and use the More4Apps Supplier Wizard.

    While this method was not quite as speedy as our

    bespoke process for loading, it worked and worked

    flawlessly.

    I have recently made use of the More4Apps Upload

    Wizard to enable us to load bank statement data into

    Cash Management tables in order to enable automatic

    reconciliation of our bank accounts. This meant

    that we did not have to rely on an expensive (and

    inflexible) solution developed by external consultants.

    We saved a substantial amount of money, and I retain

    control of the process and can adapt it as and when

    required by our ever-changing business needs.

    Throughout the project to move our entire European,Middle Eastern and African regions of the business

    to Oracle R12, More4Apps software has been, hands

    down, the most impressive and reliable piece of

    software I have come across. It has helped to get the

    project on track and firmly keep it there.

    Process improvement is part of my role, and

    increasingly More4Apps Wizards are the enabler of

    these improvements. I look forward to continuing

    what has, so far, been an extremely rewarding

    relationship.

    I can highly recommend More4Apps to anyone who

    uses Oracle and wants to improve efficiency it is

    simply unbeatable.

    A:A large manufacturer is using Informatica SmartPartitioning to deploy across dozens of Oracle

    Applications around the world. Their main businessdriver was to accelerate the performance of the

    applications to drive efficiencies in manufacturing

    facilities, order processes and financial reporting.

    Their secondary concern was the cost of the

    overall infrastructure required to support over

    150TB of application data spread out in over 30

    countries while being able to aggregate that data for

    financial reporting and analysis. Using Informatica

    Smart Partitioning as the standard best practice

    for Oracle data management, they are on track to

    deliver over US$23 million in cost savings related to

    hardware and storage. The average performance

    gain in the system was between 40 to 50 percent,

    allowing for faster end-of-period closes and betteroperational visibility.

    Another successful client in the telecommunications

    industry was able to use Informatica Smart

    How to Capitalize on SubledgerAccounting in Oracle R12 withExcel-based Reportingby: Gregg van der Westhuizen, Solutions Specialist, Excel4apps

    For corporate finance teams, Oracle E-Business Suite(EBS) R12 provides a powerful tool in the form of

    subledger accounting (SLA). The SLA architecture,

    which sits between the EBS subledger applications

    (such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable,

    Inventory, etc.) and the general ledger (GL), offers a

    user configurable, centralized accounting engine. It

    supports a summarized GL while also maintaining

    a detailed repository of accounting entries within

    the SLA. Here, Excel4apps discusses some of SLAs

    benefits and how to capitalize on them with Excel-

    based reporting in GL Wand.

    What were Oracles accounting changesfrom version 11i to R12?

    In 11i, the accounting rules were maintained in each

    modules setup. It was often difficult to customize these

    rules to meet complex accounting requirements, and

    the limited customization that was possible required

    intervention from IT. The accounting engine was highly

    inconsistent from one module to the next. SLA entries

    were posted directly to the GL, and it was impossible tomaintain a summarized GL without forfeiting the detail,

    resulting in limited reconciliation ability.

    With the release of R12, Oracle introduced the SLA

    architecture. SLA provides an intermediate step

    between the subledger applications and the GL.

    This is achieved by a central model that allows

    for the configuration of many aspects of journal

    entries, providing consistency across the subledger

    applications. The transactions are entered in the

    subledger application, but the accounting treatment

    is derived in the SLA, eliminating the direct interfacefrom the subledger application to the GL. A centralized

    engine creates detailed journal entries in the SLA

    repository, which are then interfaced to the GL.

    What are the limitations of standardOracle reports with SLA?

    Having a user configurable, rules-based accounting

    engine removes all limitations on what information

    the user can specify to be transferred to the SLA,

    meaning that you need a powerful, but flexible,reporting tool to capitalize on the detailed accounting

    repository. The detailed accounting data generated in

    the SLA repository is very useful for financial reporting

    and reconciliations, yet the standard SLA reports are

    very rigid and can only accommodate user needs after

    complex customization. The reports output a static

    text format, making it impossible to drill back to the

    source of the transaction

    LifeWay Christian Resources is a religious nonprofit

    organization and is an entity of the Southern Baptist

    Convention. LifeWay produces Bibles, church

    literature, books, music, audio and video recordings,

    church supplies and Internet services. The ministry

    operates 154 LifeWay Christian Stores across the

    country. LifeWays home office is in Nashville,

    Tennessee, where about 1250 employees work.

    LifeWay has successfully implemented Oracle

    E-Business Suite (EBS) Financials, Projects, APC,

    Inventory, Purchasing, Order Management and

    Advanced Pricing modules for its global operations.

    LifeWay is on version 11.5.10.2 and their production

    database size is 1200 GB.

    Data Loading Activities Performed by LifeWay:

    The Struggle with DataLoader

    Manual mass data loading/maintenance within Oracle

    EBS can be tedious and very time consuming. LifeWay

    utilized DataLoader for performing data loading as

    an alternative to manual methods. The DataLoader

    tool took a lot of time and still could not provide a

    fool-proof and robust solution. Amy Goolsby recalls

    that for about 1500 items loading, it required constant

    monitoring and took two weeks with eight computersin the conference room. This time does not include

    Post-merger Integration: Six Essential Stepsthat Add Value to Mergers and Acquisitions forCompanies Using OracleE-Business Suiteby: Helene Abrams, CEO, eprentise, www.eprentise.com

    Few things generate excitement like the announcement

    of a merger and acquisition. Almost without exception,the promise is to increase stakeholder value; however,

    this is not always the result. With an estimated 70

    percent of deals failing to deliver, how can you really

    maximize M&A deals?

    A focus on the consolidation of core processes and

    data reduces the time, effort, and costs associated with

    the merger; leverages both organizations synergies;

    and increases the likelihood of success. Furthermore,

    companies using OracleE-Business Suite (EBS) can

    increase value by following these six post-mergerintegration steps:

    1. Align calendars and charts of accounts.

    In order to quickly produce financial reports for the

    integrated company, you should align your chart of

    accounts (COA) and calendar to the acquiring company

    within the first 60-90 days. Plan to adopt a single global

    COA and calendar for the entire business. Rather than

    creating multiple fix spreadsheets to bridge the gaps,

    use eprentise software to quickly streamline integration

    2. Investigate statutory and regulatory requirements in

    all countries in which the combined entity will operate.

    Establish or revise tax structures and regulatory

    compliance features for each country where the

    company operates, and submit necessary regulatory

    filings and/or reports to the Securities and Exchange

    Commission. Select a reporting structure that

    accommodates both GAAP and IFRS rules.

    3. Revalue assets and date placed in service.

    GAAP rules require that all assets have a date placed inservice as of the date of the acquisition, the value (i.e.,

    fair market value usually net value) of the original

    asset cost and the depreciated value. In EBS, this is

    accomplished by revaluing the assets in new asset

    books.

    4. Align versions of EBS.

    Aligning operations with inconsistencies requires a

    huge manual effort for reconciliation, translation and

    maintenance. Patch or upgrade EBS versions so all are

    at the same level. Adopt a company-wide patch programto install, test and implement to ensure consistency.

    5. Consolidate instances.

    Consolidation drives collective agreement on how

    the business should run, what data assets need to

    be shared and how business processes should be

    standardized enterprise-wide.

    6. Reorganize within a single instance to align sets

    of books (ledgers), legal entities, operating units,

    and inventory organizations to standardize business

    processes.

    Without alignment of business processes, each company

    is unable to capitalize on its strengths, leading to lost

    value and risk of failure. In the past, companies seeking

    to align core EBS configurations would either create

    cumbersome workarounds (resulting in inaccurate

    reporting data), or undergo a costly and time-consuming

    Flexera Software is the leading provider of strategic

    solutions for application usage management. The

    company helps application producers and enterprises

    was spun off as an independent company from its

    previous owner.

    Executives soon realized that they needed an ERP

    of Oracle enterprise solutions for midsize and large

    of Oracle Applications that would meet its complex

    Updating a Legacy EnvironmentWhen Flexera Software became an independent entity,

    the company inherited a legacy Oracle environment

    that included older releases of Oracle E-Business

    Suite (EBS), including Oracle Human Resources

    Management System. At the time, this approach was

    expedient and cost-efficient. Over the years, however,

    the company encountered data that was inaccurate

    and in some cases irrelevant to its business. The old

    system, which had been customized for the previous

    owner, included a number of misconfigurations and

    nonfunctional parts, resulting in a lot of manual work

    in order to process certain transactions.

    In 2011, Flexera Software made the decision to

    implement Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12,

    including Oracle Human Resources management

    System. These implementations would help to handle

    its complicated reporting processes related to product

    and solution area performance and to comply with

    complex, country-specific regulations in its offices

    in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan,

    Hong Kong and Australia. To enhance budgetingand forecasting capabilities, executives also decided

    to implement Oracle Hyperion Planning and Oracle

    Business Intelligence Analytics Applications.

    Aligning Business and IT

    After evaluating a number of consulting services

    companies, Flexera Software selected CSS because of

    the consulting firms proactive strategy of aligning the

    companys IT goals with its business goals.

    CSS really understood our business better than theother firms did, says Joe Frieda, chief information

    officer at Flexera Software. They understood that

    this was the first step of many in terms of building a

    foundation for future initiatives and enhancements, as

    The newly implemented Oracle Applications

    have enabled Flexera Software to dispense with

    numerous manual processes and replace them with

    automated tasks, which saves time and resources.

    Old customizations were replaced with standardized

    processes and predesigned workflows, which

    benefitted Flexera Software from a business process

    perspective. Finance users are now able to perform

    processes independently of IT, freeing the IT staff for

    more strategic projects.

    Optimizing the Reporting Process

    The process transformation and automation enabled

    Flexera Software to shorten its monthly close cycle

    by about 40 percent. Were a very dynamic business

    with a lot of things going on, says Freda. Our ability

    to get accurate financial information as quickly as

    possible to report to management, to report to our

    investors, etc., is critical. Shortening our monthly close

    is vital to getting that information out expediently.

    Freda says Flexera Software benefitted from CSS

    strong knowledge of Oracle Applications and its

    proactive approach to the implementation. CSS

    spent time in the initial stages talking to us about our

    needs. They were the only company that understood

    we needed to build out a roadmap for the future thatviewed our IT investment in relation to our business

    goals, says Freda. In terms of my experience

    with these sorts of projects over the years, they did

    a good job with the overall project management,

    ensuring that we stayed on track. With a project of this

    magnitude, there are many risks of it going askew.
