Welcome to the Inaugural National Diversity Pre-Law Conference and Law
Fair 2014! I want to welcome you to Washington, DC – our Nation’s Capital and to the launch of this exciting and groundbreaking new event! Thank you to all those who support our mission of providing this greatly-
needed service to diverse future lawyers from across the country who need to get solid “insider” information from people who truly want to see them succeed in pursuing the path of becoming a lawyer. We not only want to share with you what you need to know, but help mentally prepare you for the additional challenges you will face as a diverse individual both as a law student and as a lawyer. What’s more, we want to connect you with resources to assist you along this journey, and link you up with people who can serve as mentors and accountability partners. I am beyond elated to share our conference’s official souvenir program guide, which highlights all of the amazing happenings during this year’s inaugural event.
Launching this new event is indeed a true milestone. A tremendous amount of hard work and countless hours of preparation went into making this event a reality and I am proud that you made the effort to be here in order to be a part of it. What an incredible power-packed two days we have planned for you! You will have the chance to hear from some truly dynamic keynote speakers and special guests who have not only succeeded in their own professional careers, but who have taken on the additional social responsibility of being leaders and advocates for diversity in the legal profession – an area where there is still a lot of work to be done .
In addition to our speakers, we have several knowledgeable and caring law school administrators, lawyers, and law students who have volunteered to generously give of their time and talent to be a part of this conference as presenters, panelists and networking facilitators. They volunteer not because they have to but because they want to. Please understand that we are all coming together at this time and in this place because of YOU. The people who you will meet here are genuinely passionate about and committed to creating a path for diverse individuals to have access to a professional legal education, and the opportunity to enter into and gain a fair chance to succeed in the legal profession. We believe that law schools and the legal profession can and should be more diverse and inclusive, and we want to share our knowledge, experiences and advice with you because we understand that knowledge is power and that what you learn here can really make a difference in helping you succeed. We are all advocating for and fighting for YOU. Most importantly, we realize that you will serve in leadership roles in your law schools and in the legal world, and it’s important for you to understand that we want you to take in all that we are pouring into and providing to you. However, you must also carry the torch and be willing to be advocates for diversity in your institutions and to make sure that things improve for those
coming behind you as well. It is a fight, but it’s a good fight that we all must be willing to get in the ring and put on boxing gloves on for.
During your time with us, please make sure that you not only listen to what all of the people involved have to say, but that you are fully present and engaged. Make it a point to speak to everyone, and make a special effort to show your appreciation to all of the people who are sacrificing so much to execute a life-changing, excellent and professional event experience for you. They are ALL legal diversity champions who should be appreciated and celebrated!
In addition to listening to the amazing speeches and informative panel discussions, make sure you don’t pass up the chance to meet representatives from over 50 law schools and organizations at our Law School & Diversity Resources Fair. You must also make it a point to experience what you will face daily in a law school classroom by participating in our mock law school class taught by an actual law professor. Additionally, you should also take part in our LSAT test-taking strategies session so that you are ready to conquer that very important entrance exam.
Further, there are three other things that really make this confer-ence stand out – the incorporated tours, the diversity leadership training and the networking opportunities. In addition to the great information, don’t pass up the wonderful opportunity to take a tour of the Supreme Court of the United States and the U.S. Capitol Building – absolute musts for future lawyers! We will also have diversity leadership experts provide training on cross-cultural collaborations and cultural competence to help you in tak-ing on leadership roles in this area once you get into law school. Moreover, we have included structured networking opportunities within the event. Please make sure that you join us for our Pizza Pick-Up Dinner & Meet and Greet, our official Conference Launch Reception and our Scavenger Hunt. These events were designed specifically to bring everyone together and provide opportunities for you to meet lots of new people and make some meaningful, quality and potentially life-changing connections – which is really the true value of attending any conference.
I implore you to not take any part of this event for granted. This is one of those experiences that can have a significant and positive impact on your future and your life. All of the different people that we are bringing together all in one place at this time will never happen again. Treat this as the once-in-a-lifetime experience that it is. Participate in every activity, remain fully engaged, and enjoy the entire conference! I look forward to meeting you!
Continued blessings and success,

I can honestly say CHH 08' was a turning point in my life. It showed me the level of hard-work, dedication, tenacity, and sacrifice required for the proper study of law. The knowledge and training I gained from the program was astounding, and I know that the wisdom obtained was my start to a successful law school experience.
Kendra B. George Washington University Law School, LL.M Candidate
The knowledge, practical experience and insight I have gained as a Summer 2012 participant of CHH has been pivotal to my law school success. As the current Editor-in-Chief of the Howard Law Journal, a former member of the Charles Hamilton Houston National Moot Court Team, and a former Student Attorney in the Civil Rights Clinic, I have interned at the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, and I now serve as a judicial intern for a federal judge at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Much of this suc-cess is rooted in my experiences with CHH.

What is the National Diversity Pre-Law Conference and Law Fair?ABOUT US
The National Diversity Pre-Law Conference and Law Fair was created to provide a national outreach and empowerment event designed specifically to go further than most pre-law events, by not only providing general information about law school and the legal profession, but by directly addressing
the very real and difficult issues and concerns facing diverse law school aspirants, law students and lawyers. Diversity includes people who are members of historically underrepresented racial and ethnic minority groups (Blacks/African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, Asians), women, LGBT or Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender individuals, and those with disabilities. It also includes people who are socio-economically/educationally disadvantaged, older in age, have children or are primary caregivers to family members, and those who have multiple social identities.
The National Diversity Pre-Law Conference & Law Fair also aspires to bring together and connect these aspiring law students with individuals and organizations from across the country who have programs and initiatives that are in support of the common goal of bringing about more meaningful diversity and inclu-sion in American law schools, and ultimately in the legal profession.
The National Diversity Pre-Law Conference & Law Fair aims to provide aspiring diverse lawyers with ac-cess to game-changing information, connections and resources all in one place at one time which will help equip them for success in the admissions process, in law school and in their careers.
In addition to this, we will provide diverse attendees and their allies with essential knowledge and diversity leadership training so that they will have the tools and strategies to themselves be successful and to be leaders. What they will learn will help enable them to boldly take on leadership roles in promoting diversity and inclusion, coalition building and collaboration, cultural competence, service and social justice in their law schools, legal and non-traditional work settings and lives.
Further, we will encourage all participants to pay it forward by contributing to future events by sharing their experiences and participating in whatever ways they are able.
MISSION
To contribute to increasing in advancing diversity in law schools and in the legal profession by provid-ing diverse aspiring lawyers with a FREE high-quality, world-class, power-packed event that helps empower them by providing access to insider information, law school preparation and career success
resources, diversity leadership training and invaluable networking opportunities to help them along the path to success in the competitive road to becoming lawyers.
The Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia (PDS) provides and promotes quality legal representation to indigent adults and children facing a loss of liberty in the District of Columbia and thereby protects society’s interest in the fair administration of justice. Through our internship and law clerk program, we help students explore criminal defense work while cultivating effective investigation, advocacy, and client counseling skills.
