Additional Resources & Services

PARENTS AS TEACHERS A home visitation program to support participants in gaining child development knowledge and skills. Certified Parent Educators provide parents with practical information, education, and support during the first 3 years of a child’s development. Visits are scheduled monthly based on family’s schedule. A $50.00 annual program fee is required. Families must live in Mill Woods or the Meadows.

INTENSIVE HOME VISITATION In-home support for first time parents and families parenting for the first time in Canada. Families may join before baby’s birth or up to 2 years of age. The home visitation program focuses on the role of the caregiver and how to positively contribute to their child’s growth and development. Family Enrichment Workers assist in assessing community resources, while providing information on child development. Visits are scheduled weekly, based on family need.

SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION

Discover strategies on how to manage behaviour and encourage your child’s development (up to 4 sessions). Tailored sessions include DVDs, informative handouts, and discussion with a trained practitioner.

Are you curious to know if your child is developing typically and meeting milestones? Staff will assist in completing the “Ages & Stages” questionnaire and offer tips and activities to try at home.

The Millbourne Community Site has updated it’s Toy Lending Library. Members can borrow a variety of toys, dress up clothes and games geared towards children ages 0 to 6 years. $5.00 annual membership fee. Open Tuesdays 9:00am-4:30pm (Closed from 12-1pm) & Thursdays 1:00pm-4:30pm.

Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to attend a FREE one week summer camp. 5 year olds must have completed kindergarten by June 2014. Children may register for one week ONLY to ensure more children have the opportunity to attend. Camps run from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday- Friday for the following weeks:

Registration starts promptly at 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 10 at the Millhurst Community League (5811 19A Ave). First come, first served. Paper work must be filled out on site. Registration will end at 8:00 pm or when camps are full. In order to successfully register your children in a Summer Camp you will need:Alberta Health Card, $25 Refundable Fee, and Family Doctor’s NameOnly parents or legal guardians can register their children.

FAMILY SUPPORT PROGRAMS

COUNT TO TEN | Anger ManagementAn adult education and support group for those wanting to learn effective ways to deal with anger. Participants develop an awareness of how anger can affect their life and those they love.

MANAGING MOTHERHOOD Are you a new parent? Are you feeling anxious or overwhelmed? Join us to learn how to manage anxiety, anger, improve communication and develop healthy relationships. Childcare provided based on need. Co-facilitated by a Public Health Nurse.

RHYMES, SONGS AND STORY TIMEAn interactive drop-in group for caregivers and children ages birth to 3. The group has a structured and repetitive routine which helps children increase their memory and language skills. Drop in.

PRESCHOOL LAUGH & LEARNAn exciting drop-in group for active preschoolers and their caregivers. Participate in physical activity, parachute play, songs and crafts. Child led fun and social interaction create a sense of confidence before preschoolers reach kindergarten. Drop in.RHYMES THAT BINDParents will learn songs, finger plays and simple movement games with their infant and toddlers and discover new ways to bond in a supportive peer environment. Co-facilitated by the Centre for Family Literacy. Drop in.

NEW PROGRAMS & PARTNERSHIPS

MUSIC & MOTIONPreschoolers love dancing to songs and moving to rhythmic beats. Musical instruments and dance will be explored through games and activities. Relaxation exercises and kids yoga close the hour long session. Drop In.

STRAIGHT FROM THE HEARTThis workshop aims to improve communication between couples, to lead them towards a more satisfying relationship. Topics include: how to better connect, how to heal and forgive past wounds and appreciate each other’s differences. Limited spots available. The cost is $50. Registration required.

WINNING AS A STEP FAMILYThis supportive workshop lead by an expert in the field aims to support the creation of harmonious relationships and will deal with topics such as the stages of developing families, communication styles, and cohesive co-parenting. Limited spots available. The cost is $50. Registration required. WRITING FOR RECOVERYThis is a peer facilitated drop in group providing adults living with mental illness an opportunity to improve essential skills such as reading and writing while engaging in self-expression in a supportive environment. Drop In.

FAMILY SUPPORT & PARENT EDUCATION - Intake and $25.00 refundable deposit required.

TRIPLE P | 0-12 or TEENThe Positive Parenting Program is an internationally taught program that provides parents with positive strategies to build relationships with children, encourage appropriate behaviour, and manage misbehaviours. Two available classes for parents with children 0-12 or teenagers.

RAINBOWS & PRISMSRainbows assists children (5-12) who are experiencing life changes due to divorce or separation. Children learn to express their feelings and develop coping skills. Parents participate in Prisms to learn effective ways to communicate with their children and understand how separation and divorce impact the family unit.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION- Children of all abilities and siblings welcome!

STAY AND PLAYA drop-in program that is perfect for caregivers and their active children ages birth to 6 years. Have fun socializing and playing with toys from our new and improved Toy Lending Library. Drop-in.

BOOKS FOR BABIESLearn the importance of reading to your infant. Every family takes home a free children’s book each week. This is a registered program co-facilitated by the Centre for Family Literacy. Families must register to attend.
