Personal Counseling: The College does not employ an expert counselor. However, the faculty
members support students through counseling for their various needs to address educational,
social, psychological and financial issues. The high dropout rate in higher education is mainly
due to social and financial impediments. Girl students are particularly victims of social
constraints where the parents are not in favor of their daughters pursuing higher education.
The College attempts to address both social and psychological issues relating to academic and
career orientation of the students. Student Counseling is at two levels, individual to a student
at personal level and group counseling.
Student‟s Level: Generally individual teacher monitors the behavior and attendance of
students in the class room. The teacher interacts with the students with poor attendance record.
When taken into confidence the students reveal the reasons for his failure to attend classes.
The reasons are chiefly economical. Many of the students work in their fields or even do labor
work to support their families.
The staff members extend financial support to such students. However, all such actions are
never brought on the record. Many of the faculty members meet parents to know the problems
and difficulties faced by their wards and render suitable remedy.
Group Counseling: At the beginning of every academic year the College Principal and senior
members of the faculty give an opening address to the students elaborating on academic
opportunities, career prospects and opportunities for financial support available to students.
The lectures are informative as well as morale boosters for the students. Students are also
informed about various support services available in the College. They are advised to contact
the Principal or any other faculty member if they face any problem.
Parents Counseling: The College organizes a special event for the parents of the girl students.
Under this event mothers of girl students are invited to the College. The parents are shown the
various facilities the College provides for their daughters and also stress on the social security
made available for the girl students. This activity is carried out to repose confidence among
the parents regarding the social security of their daughters.
Informally and individually
counseling is offered.

Best Practices:
Best Practice 1: CONCURRENT SEMINARS OF THE TEACHERS WHO
PRESENTED ARTICLES OVERSEAS
Goal:
To avail the opportunities to the students to experience overseas seminars
To inculcate presentation skills among the students
To create interdisciplinary attitude among the students
The Context: There has been a consistent growth in the presentation of the articles at
international level. The faculty of the college not only presented their articles at the
international seminars in India but also overseas. Most of the faculty members of the
college visited the countries like South Korea, Thailand, Shri Lanka & Nepal. The
faculty members not only accumulated academic experiences but also social experiences.
In the IQAC Meeting of the college, it was decided that these experience be shared by
the members of faculty of the college along with students. To arrange the seminars in the
least available time, the seminars were held concurrently in the different class rooms of
the college.
The Practice:
The faculty members were provided facilities like Power Point Presentation Machines,
Screens and Technical staff to present their topic. This program was held on 20/09/2014 ,
9.00 a.m. to 12 a.m. During these hours students were asked to attend the seminars of
their choice. This enabled the students to attend the topics of their choice and gain new
ideas. The practice was very helpful to students. They could realize the interdisciplinary
nature of their academics. The presenters also narrated their experiences in these
countries, which helped the students in immense. The following faculty members

Problems Encountered and Resources Required:
Students have to yet acquire the culture of seminars. At the end of the seminars only a
few students could ask queries and doubts.
Yet the college requires a well-equipped auditorium to arrange the seminars. Due to load
shedding, power cut of electricity some time creates problems, so full back up of
Electricity Invertors are required.

Best Practices:
Best Practice 2: TRAINNING THE STUDENTS AT VARIOUS BANKS, CREDIT
SOCIETIES, FACTORIES, MILK DEPOTS AND FINANCIAL INSTITUTES.
Goal:
To avail the opportunities to the students to experience financial transactions in the
markets
To introduce practical knowledge of the market
To develop the skill of record keeping
The Context: It has been always said that there is a disparity between theoretical
knowledge that students learn in texts in the colleges and the real practice in market.
Many times students find it difficult to understand why do they find record in finanacial
institutes that do not match with the theory in text. In the IQAC Meeting of the college, it
was decided that these experiences be shared by the students of the college.
The Practice:
As a measure to overcome the problem, the college arranged the spot training of students
from BBA, BCA AND BCOM. One teacher was entrusted to work as a mediator
between the students and the institutes. With the initial survey he has to locate and to
confirm the spots of the institutes. Under the guidance of the Principal, the
correspondence was made with the head of the institutes to seek the consent letter for
training. The dates are confirmed for training. The training at each institutes varied as per
the requirement of the students and as per the workload of the institutes. On the first day
the students are dealt with introduction of the institute. Head or the senior officer
introduced the employees, the working, the type of financial transactions, the customers
and their market network. On the second day the students were shown the documents.
For the next two days, students were taken to the market to different kinds of jobs. On

Participation of the students in the event .
The reports prepared by the students.
Letters of appreciation received from the financial institutes.
AQAR 2014- 2015 of Arts, Commerce and Science College, Sonai Page 55
Problems Encountered and Resources Required:
The timings of the institutes were different than that of the college so that students have
to prepare and remain present at the college around 11 a.m.
The college does not have its own vehicle so that the students cannot be taken at the spot
of the training collectively. Sometime it took a little more time to reach the spot.
