The Training and the Manual

Each stage has a simple and effective ‘Explanation Card’ to give an overview

of the phonics being taught in schools.

Practise Reinforce and ConsolidateEach stage has three decodable card games called ‘Get it, ‘Match it’ and

‘Take it’. Play the games in order to reinforce the systematic synthetic

phonics methods being taught in school. Continual reading of words with a

mixture of laughter and fun with the result of improved reading.

Language Extension and High Frequency Words(school trugs boxes only)

The decodable card game; ‘Use it’, gives the opportunity to practise

high frequency words slowly and systematically throughout the resource.

The game enables literacy development for practice with handwriting, spelling,

sentence construction as well as vocabulary extension.

Monitor and Track Pupil Progress(school trugs boxes only)

Each school trugs box contains material to

assess and track a pupil’s progress. There are

two corresponding decodable stories at each

of the Stages. One assesses spelling and

handwriting and one assesses reading progress.

This gives diagnostic information/fluency

score/percentage accuracy for the

teacher to evaluate and informs

for future action.

Our most used resource. We have to hide it at lunch time! Barbara Raby

TRUGS has been a great success at our Infant School this term! I’ve been using

it with different levelled reading groups so all children can be involved!

Caroline Aylward KS1 Leader

The fun and laughter that was generated was just

amazing – learning through fun – great. Sue Bailes

It is a very enjoyable way to give them the over learning

experience they need. The pupils love playing them and

don’t seem to realise they are reinforcing the patterns

we have just learnt. Diana Rabot

WOW I was blown away. I work with secondary

pupils with reading ages of 6 and below. You

have saved the day. Amanda Tweedale

The new game within the trugs Check deck is called ‘Beat it’.

It has been trialled by Primary and Secondary age students,

who all seem to love it! The game is simple to play and

similar to the card game ‘beggar-my-neighbour’.

Each deck (TC0/TC1/TC2 or TC3) is designed to check a

student’s decoding skills at the end of each trugs box,

enabling you to assess if they are ready to move on to the

next trugs box... or if they have completed all boxes!
