SPRING PROJECT KICK-OFF
The decision has been made – the kids are joining 4-H. But how? You may be new to town and not know anyone who participates in the program. So what should you do? The easiest solution – call the Young County Extension Office at 940-549-0737. We will direct you to a club that will be close to you and provide you with the appropriate contact information for the leader of that club. You should then contact the leader and discuss the club’s activities and programs to ensure that it will be a good match for your family. The club leader will also assist you in completing the on-line registration process. You may also decide that the family adults should become involved and the club leader can assist you with information on such roles as well.

Clover Kids Welcome!
We are glad that you have chosen to be part of the largest non-formal youth education organization in the United States! Over 7 million youth participate in 4-H each year to become self-motivated, productive and contributing citizens.
4-H is designed to be a family affair so 4-H parents are encouraged to get involved in the 4-H experience. Ways that 4-H parents can contribute range from serving as a project leader to providing transportation to activities, or even supplying refreshments for meetings or special events. 4-H parents are also needed to supervise 4-H activities.
Young County has an outstanding group of dedicated adult volunteer leaders as well as a superb group of motivated 4-H members. We welcome your family into our Young County 4-H family!
Please feel free to contact the Young County Extension Office, or visit our website at young.agrilife.org for more information about the county 4-H Program.
Best wishes for a fulfilling year in 4-H! We look forward to seeing you at events throughout the year.
Welcome

QUILT CHALLENGE
March 3, 2014
Young County Extension Office
4:00pm
Van will pick up if called ahead of time
The 4-H Fashion Show is designed to recognize 4-H
members who have completed a Clothing and
Textiles project. The following objectives are taught
in the Clothing and Textiles project: knowledge of
fibers and fabrics, wardrobe selection, clothing
construction, comparison shopping, fashion
interpretation, understanding of style, good
grooming, poise in front of others and personal
presentation skills.
County Fashion Show will take place in late
March and District Contest will take place in
early April.
The Quilt Challenge will provide youth
with the opportunity to utilize their sew-
ing skills gained in the 4-H Clothing and
Textiles project to complete a quilt that
will be judged and then donated.
The outdoor education program area provides opportunities for young people to
learn about basic ecology, human/nature relationships, and natural resource career
fields. Through outdoor and environmental education projects, youth will develop a
sense of understanding and appreciation of the world around them while building
stronger connections with nature, becoming stewards of natural resources,
enhancing skills, and enjoying time spent in the great outdoors.
FASHION STORY BOARD
The 4-H Fashion Storyboard is an
industry-inspired method of displaying
original designs. The best storyboards
create vivid visual images that are
interesting and appealing to viewers.
The storyboard “tells the story” of the
designer’s idea. The storyboard
includes original illustrations and flats,
as well as additional materials (such as
photos from the Internet or magazines,
paper, fabric swatches, patterns, etc.)
that have influenced the unique design.
YOUNG COUNTY SPORTSFISHING WILL KICK-OFF IN LATE SPRING—-Let us know if your interested. We are starting a sign-up sheet.
Fishing can involve exploring a different world at the water’s edge, kicking back in the shade and enjoying company while the bait soaks, dip-
ping your toes in the water and watching the sun set, and many more relaxing and rewarding experiences just by being there.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Let us know if you are interested! We are starting a
sign-up sheet at the office.
The 4-H small engines project is a great way to learn the
right way to operate, service, and maintain small engines.
Start by learning to operate engines at your home. Assist
with regular maintenance. Keep records on any repairs
done. Think about what you would like to learn about in
the small engine project!
