President's Message

Welcome to the 2014 QJC Intra-State championships. This year 60 teams are involved in age groups ranging from Under 12 through to Under 16 and geographically from one end of Queensland to the other.

The Under 12’s are being hosted by Darling Downs and South West Queensland in Toowoomba. Under 13’s are being hosted by Cairns Cricket in Cairns, while the Under 14’s are being hosted by Mackay Whitsunday in Mackay. Townsville Cricket is hosting the Under 15 teams and Brisbane North host the Under 16 teams at Brisbane Grammar Northgate Complex in Brisbane.

On behalf of QJC I would like to sincerely thank all the people around the state who are involved in hosting the championships. The championships could not continue without your effort and support. I know you will get great satisfaction in helping to develop our best young players both on and off the cricket fields over the next five days.

I would also like to acknowledge the contributions of all the coaches, managers, scorers and parents, whose efforts contribute so much to the success of the championships. Most of these people give up a large part of their annual leave to be involved and your effort and dedication is very much appreciated by your Associations and Queensland Junior Cricket.

I also need to thank Kookaburra Sporting Goods for their generous contribution to this week of cricket. This is the second year that Kookaburra have provided cricket balls free of charge and over three hundred cricket balls are used with an equivalent dollar value of around $12,000. This is an enormous contribution and QJC requests that you consider Kookaburra when purchasing balls and other cricket equipment in the future.

To the parents – a special thanks, as you provide the funds to allow the players to take part in this week of cricket. Please be assured that QJC is doing everything in our power to restrain costs, but we need to balance cost, while still providing centres that have adequate facilities to stage this week of cricket.

Finally to the players – we wish you every success. Play the game hard, but play fair and show respect to fellow players both on and off the field. We have had some behaviour issues both on and off the field in the past two years and it needs to stop. I will be instructing our QJC Representatives in each centre to ensure good behaviour is maintained and any issues will be dealt with – whether it is committed by a player or official.

Please travel safely on your return journeys and have a Merry Xmas and a Happy, Safe and Prosperous New Year.

Best wishes,

George WatkinQJC President

I. The team batting second must face twenty (20) completed overs, or be dismissed within 20 completed overs, to constitute a game

II. If the team batting second has not had the opportunity to complete the

agreed number of overs and has neither been all out or passed the opponent‟s score, the result shall be decided on the average run rate throughout both innings

Calculation of average run rate Team batting first ARR = runs scored / number of overs available Team batting second ARR = runs scored / number of overs faced ARR is number rounded to 2 decimal places eg 3.245…=3.25, 3.244…=3.24

Abandoned Match/Matches If, due to inclement weather, one match of an Age Group has been abandoned without a result under these Rules, then all matches in that age group on that day will be deemed to be abandoned with no points (win / loss or incentive) being allocated. However, if other matches in that age group can still be played on that day, then those matches should proceed even though points (win / loss or incentive) will not be allocated.

Team “A” bats for 25 oversTeam “B” bats for 25 oversLunch interval Team “A” resumes batting as at the completion of the first 25 overs.Team “B” then does likewise

Change-over periods are of 10 minutes duration

Notes specific to Quarters Cricket A Drink Break shall be taken after 13 overs of each Quarter The 26th over of an innings constitutes a continuation of the innings hence a bowler cannot bowl overs 25 and 26 the „correct‟ batsman must take strike at the commencement of over 26 the period between a team‟s bowling quarters constitutes sufficient lapsed

time for abowler to begin a second spell at the start of the second quarter

b. Batting Restriction

I. In Under 12 and Under 13 age groups only, a batsman may be retired “not out” after having faced 50 fair balls, but a not out batsman must be retired “not out” after facing 75 fair balls.

(A fair delivery is defined as a delivery not called WIDE or NO BALL) All batsmen who have retired “not out” may return to bat again, without compulsory retirement at 75 fair balls, in order of retirement if all other batsmen are dismissed or retire. Except when a batsman retires through illness, injury or other unavoidable circumstances, a batsman who retires before facing at least 50 fair balls shall be “retired out” and shall constitute the fall of a wicket.

II. In Under 14 only, a batsman may be retired “not out” after having faced 50 fair balls.(A fair delivery is defined as a delivery not called WIDE or NO BALL)

All batsmen who have retired “not out” may return to bat again, in order of retirement if all other batsmen are dismissed or retire. Except when a batsman retires through illness, injury or other unavoidable circumstances, a batsman who retires before facing at least 50 fair balls shall be “retired out” and shall constitute the fall of a wicket

III. In all age groups “switch hitting” is not permitted. “Switch hitting” is the action ofbatsman changing stance (left to right handed or vice versa) after the bowler hascommenced his/her run-up. It is considered that this practice exposes inexperiencedbatsmen and fieldsman to unwarranted risk of injury. The ball shall be deemed„dead‟, should a batsman attempt to „switch hit‟.

Players Code of Conduct

Play by the rules Never argue with an umpire. If you disagree, have your captain, coach or manager approach

the umpire during a break of after the game Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials and sledging other players, deliberately

distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviours in cricket Work equally hard for yourself and your teammates. Your team's performance will benefit and

so will you Be a good sport. Applaud all good plays whether they are made by your team or the

opposition Treat all participants in cricket as you like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage

of another competitor Cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents. Without them there would be no

competition Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit, not just to please parents and coaches Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability,

cultural background or religion

Parents Code of Conduct

Do not force an unwilling child to participate in cricket Remember, children are involved in cricket for their enjoyment, not yours Encourage your child to play by the rules Focus on the child's efforts and performance rather than winning or losing Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game Remember that children learn best by example. Appreciate good performances and skilful

plays by all participants Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities Respect officials decisions and teach children to do likewise Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your

child could not participate Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability,

cultural background or religion

Coaches Code of Conduct

Remember that young people participate for pleasure and winning is only part of the fun Never ridicule or yell at a young player for making a mistake or not coming first Be reasonable in your demands on players' time, energy and enthusiasm Operate within the rules and Spirit of Cricket and teach your players to do the same Ensure that the time players spend with you is a positive experience Avoid overplaying the talented players; all young players need and deserve equal time,

attention and opportunities Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age

and ability of all players Display control and respect to all those involved in cricket. This includes opponents, coaches,

umpires, administrators, parents and spectators. Encourage your players to do the same Show concern and caution toward sick and injured players. Follow the advice of a physician

when determining whether an injured player is ready to recommence training or competition Obtain appropriate qualifications and keep up to date with the latest cricket coaching

practices and principles of growth and development of young people. Any physical contact with a young person should be appropriate to the situation and

necessary for the players skill development Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability,

cultural background or religion
