PRT is a soft, flexible braid with a very tuff urethane coating, a great choice for finesse fishing. Flipping and pitching into heavy structure where durability and strength are paramount, is one of the many situations where PRT shines. PRT is the current state of the art braid produced using traditional braid architecture, 30 pound PRT is the diameter of 8 pound monofilament, 20 pound like 6 pound mono, etc. Many experienced braid users find PRT to their liking as it has a familiar feel but with a durability that exceeds their expectations regarding color retention and fray resistance.

WINDTAMER BRAID

WINDTAMER PERFORMANCE

Another tried and tested braid in the Fins range is the Windtamer Braid. Windtamer Braid utilises the same technology and features as FINS Original PRT with the added benefit of being able to be used in windy conditions with light lures. Windtamer Braid has a firmer structure allowing it to cut through the air with minimal arching and virtually eliminating wind knots. Windtamer Braid has a tighter weave, packs down well onto reels and wont bury itself. Its firm-er structure also helps in minimising backlashing on baitcasting reels.

-FINS Windtamer was produced for anglers who find it difficult to use Superlines in windy conditions. -It’s firmer structure allows the line to slice through the air with minimal arching. -Reduces the problems associated with casting smaller diameter lines. -The firmer nature of the line greatly lessens the occurrence of the line pulling down into the build of braid on the reel when you get a hit. -Packs on the reel to minimise backlashing. -FINS Windtamer offers the best strength to diameter ratio of any line.

METERED COLOURED BRAID Some fishing applications require that you know how much line is in the water, and our 8 end METERED COLOURED BRAID will enable you to know with precision. The line has four colours each being 25 feet long with a one foot white marker in the middle of each colour. The colours are Yellow, Green, Orange, and Blue. FINS METERED COLOURED BRAID is produced using eight ends of braid, making it very smooth and allowing it to pack well onto your reels.

Spectra and Dyneema are both yarns comprised of bundles of micro-filaments, the Dyneema filaments are smaller in diameter than the Spectra filaments and are therefore quicker to wear and break, resulting in "fuzzy line". The photo below is of 2 different 50 lb raw (uncoated, uncoloured) braids; one Spectra and the other Dyneema. These braids were tested with the Hexbar Abrasion test where equal weights were hung on the braids and then cycled 2000 times over a hexagonal piece of steel. This test was originally developed by Honeywell to test the abrasion tolerance of auto seat belts made of woven polyester. This closely replicates the cast and retrieve wear that occurs in fishing with the lines passing over the guide eyes when under tension.

The Bluewater P163 Rocket Popper is an extremely versatile lure that can be fished in a number of different ways. The P163 features a special tail-bias weighting system that serves two main purposes. The heavy tail weight causes the lure to fly straight and true through the air - meaning the P163 casts like a rocket. The tail weighting also causes the lure to sit nose-up in the water during the retrieve. This nose-up position causes the lure to literally skip and dart along the surface during a straight, high-speed retrieve; perfectly imitating a fleeing garfish or saurie. The P163 can also be fished with a slow, jerking motion which will see it swim with a “walk the dog” action, much like a stick bait. The P163 Rocket Popper is ideal for all bluewater casting, and will appeal to all large pelagic species including Mackerel, Queenfish, Trevally, and all Tuna species including Longtail, Yellowfin and Southern Bluefin.

The JM Gillies pro staff " Team Classic " are back on top after a convincing win at this year's Barra Nationals The guys took a commanding lead after day 2 and stuck to a winning plan for the remaining 3 days to finish ahead of some very good opposition in trying conditions on the Daly river in the Northern Territory. As well as taking out champion team Kane Dysart took out champion angler for the tournament with a combination of a cracking 118cm on the first day and then a consistent performance that saw him the clear winner in a very professional performance. The Team made up of the finest guides and Barra fisherman in Darwin are pictured receiving there prizes, Trevor Robb , Justin Jones and Kane Dysart and now off on an all-expenses paid trip to Sweden which is a great reward for and outstanding performance. The team fished a combination of prototype Classic plastics with the majority of the numbers taken on the ever reliable Killalure Flatz Rats in 10+ and 15+ in combination with braid and tough Asari Fluorocarbon trace. The classic 120 in a 6+ is an addition to the ever popular 120 series. The demand from up north for a lure to swim in between the current 3+ and 10+ was overwhelming and it made perfect sense for the addition to takes its place in the family. The lure will come with a new swim depth sticker to indicate the new model so be sure to look for it in your local tackle store.

The long awaited suspending classic is now available in the 120 10+. The addition to the range will provide anglers with a neutral buoyancy lure in a salt water environment that once cranked to a depth will hold longer in the strike zone and entice a more aggressive response from predatory fish. More weight has been added to the lure which has also enhanced its sonic output attracting more action in dirty water and will also provide a longer more accurate cast. The Needlenose was originally developed by Lance Butler in timber to enable the design to be fine-tuned prior to market release. The lure accounted for many trophy fish during the development phase and the production model has consistently outperformed the original prototypes. Lance wanted a lure that was sturdy in construction and incorporated some cutting edge features not found in other hard body lures. The Needlenose features are: Through Wire Tow Point and Hook Hangers for superior strength. The Killalure interchangeable Rattle Chamber technology, Dynamic Interchange System (DIS), to give the Needlenose a loud rattle, single ball rattle or be silent on demand. A bib giving the lure a "crash dive" ability when casting to structure incorporating the H2O Hydrokeel giving added stability when Trolling or Retrieving. The lure is drawn from the body which extends over the bib. This gives increased strength and creates a tight action which is maintained at all speeds. The innovative 2Deadly is one of Lance Butlers most successful designs, and certainly one of his all-time favourites when chasing big Barra and other large predators. Thanks to it’s unique design and profile, this creative lure can be fished as both a surface popper AND a shallow diver in the same retrieve. Lance has taken a traditional baitfish profile and included a flat-cut face which allows the lure to ‘pop’ and push water when fished on the surface. The addition of a small rounded bib also means the lure will dive and swim with a rolling, wiggle action when retrieved. Ideal for fishing around heavy bankside structure, the angler can fire a cast right into cover, allow the lure to rest and then jerk the rod tip with a sharp flick of the wrist to make it ‘pop’ loudly. This draws the attention of any nearby predators with a sound that is very much like a feeding Barra’s ‘boof’. After giving the lure a couple of sharp ‘pops’, the angler can then crank the lure below the surface and twitch it back to the boat. The 2Deadly gives anglers the best of both worlds; with the splash and sound of a popper, and the flash and vibration of a diver.

Tasmanian Devil lures are a unique Australian product designed for trolling, casting or jigging in fresh and saltwater. The lure action is due to the revolutionary winged technology that causes the lure to swim in an irregular manner, darting and diving, simulating the movement of wounded fish. This pulsating action is transmitted to the rod tip that will show as a “nodding action” that is proof that the lure is swimming correctly. If this rod tip action is not present, either a piece of weed, or a fish is on the hook. All five sizes of the Tasmanian Devil swim in this erratic manner and this is the reason our lures are so effective. The loose flight stainless steel centre or the line-through rigging method used with the 7, 13.5, 20 or 26 gram version prevents fish from throwing the hook as both methods allow the lure body to slide up the line away from the fish. Regardless of the species that is targeted, the Tasmanian Devil qualifies as an all round lure. Whatever your quarry, from Brown trout and Rainbow trout to School Mackerel and Salmon, the Tassie Devil is a sure fire hit and will land you your target species time and time again. Trolling with Tassie Devils

Over 20 years ago I challenged the fishing lure manufacturing industry to come up with a lure that would beat the Tasmanian Devil Lure for trout and salmon. 20 years later I still wait for my challenge to be taken up and the Tasmanian Devil lure to be defeated. As a professional fishing guide my job is to catch trout for my customers, to use a lure that does not get posi-tive results for my customers every time, would see an end to my reputation and my business. It would be professional suicide! Tasmanian Devil Lures are winners, use them and you will be a winner too!

TIPS I like to run the line through the lure, and place a bead between the lure and the hook. This allows the lure to move freely and gives a great action that trout can not resist! When trolling Tasmanian Devils it is critical to get the speed of the boat right. The lure is designed to swing from side to side in what is quite often an erratic action and it’s the erratic action that trout like so much. In winter a slower action is often preferred when the fish are also slower in their movements due to the cold water. Too slow below 1.6km per hour will not be effective and too fast above 4.5 kph will result in line twist. The best speed is 2 to 3 kph.

In 1934, Eddie Wigston founded a retail store in the town of New Norfolk situated on the Derwent River (a popular trout fishing district) 22 miles upstream from Hobart, the Capital of Tasmania. As a keen marksman and an avid fisherman he operated the business known as E.L. Wigston selling radios, firearms and fishing equipment until he was joined by sons Ian and Garth. The Wigston family are keen anglers and during the 1960's considerable time was spent experimenting with home made fishing lures. Born on the Victorian banks of the mighty Murray River in 1986 . The first wooden StumpJumpers fitted the local cod fishing environment perfectly. OCKTA LURE

JIGGING TIP

Incorporating Japanese design and technology, the Ockta lure is effective in attracting reef and bottom dwelling as well as pelagic species. These lures have a unique action and can be fished with most retrieve styles. They can be straight jigged, bounce jigged while drifting and cast and retrieved. With two exceptionally sharp swinging forged hooks set up on Kevlar connectors, hook up rates are increased. Ockta lures are perfectly balanced as to allow the lure to pulsate the skirts giving the appearance of a swimming octopus. There are 4 great fish attracting colours with added glow in the dark features, holographic finish on the lure head and glow live eyes.

Once you drop your jig, the last few seconds of the drop are the most crucial as it's the time when game fish take notice of the jig's fluttering "wounded bait fish" movement. In many instances they'll chase it down a few meters and strike just as it starts darting upwards, but the presentation has to be right. If your jig stops fluttering and goes lifeless for more than a second between hitting the bottom or target area and darting back upwards, any fish looking at it will immediately back off . The way to prevent this from happening is to keep a finger on your spool to make sure line doesn't come off too fast and get blown by the wind or taken by the current. You want to have as little line slack as possible, so as to be able to immediately start moving your jig.

DOWNRIGGER BOMBS When trolling for gamefish, many gamefishermen work only the surface waters, particularly if they are 'towing plastic' around. There is of course the depth factor to consider. You could be trolling over an awful lot of fish that are sitting deep down, but if they are not in the mood, they will not come up to investigate your boat wake, engine noise and lures or baits. SUPERWELD WIRE Superweld 1x7 wire is an amazing product that allows anglers to rig leaders quick-ly & easily using the flame of a cigarette lighter. To rig, the tag end of the wire should be twisted back upon itself, at which point the connection should then be passed back and forth over a light flame. The black nylon coating will then soften and fuse together to form a permanent, high strength bond. Care should be taken not to melt the black coating completely off, as this will weaken the join. The Wildfish fly selection packs from JM Gillies are real eye catchers and sure fire winners for those new to fly fishing and even for some who might be not so new to the sport. There are six packs (10 Felty’s flies in each) in the range and these are divided into two groups, the Trout packs and I guess what could be called the saltwater packs. The reality is that there’s plenty of overlap. For example the Trout Streamer Pack would very easily be at home in the kit of a bass fisherman or in fact a fly fisherman just about anywhere around the country.
