same Cleveland, new Flats.

A million miles from ordinary. Just minutes from home.

LagoLago first debuted on August 27,

2006 as the first Italian restaurant in the historic Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland. Opened by noted chef and restauranteur Fabio Salerno and his wife Nicole, the pair wanted to create a blend of contemporary and northern tradition Italian cuisine perfectly paired with wines from Italy’s finest regions while welcoming warm relationships within the close knit community. After six successful and memorable years in the charming Tremont, an opportunity arose that was an offer the Salerno’s couldn’t refuse! Lago, which means lake in Italian, was moving to the revitalized waterfront property on the East Bank of the Flats bringing chef- owner Fabio Salerno back where his career first took flight ( and where he and his wife first met)!

Fabio and Nicole Salerno share the cities excitement for the rebirth of the Flats and the opportunity to be even more involved in the growth of the city. Lago will be everything you have grown to expect & love while embracing a new neighborhood to be a part of.

Ken Stewart’sKen Stewart’s East Bank is

now open in the burgeoning Flats East Bank complex. The restaurant is located on the ground level of Aloft Cleveland Downtown hotel, which celebrated its grand opening last weekend.Long anticipated by local food and wine enthusiasts, Ken Stewart’s East Bank is the latest addition to Ohio’s popular Ken Stewart Restaurant Group that also includes Ken Stewart’s Grille, Ken Stewart’s Tre Belle, and Ken Stewart’s Lodge. The new Cleveland location will offer cuisine similar to the original location in Akron, including generous portions of delectable steaks, seafood, global cuisine, and an award-winning wine list of more than 200 wine selections.

As a nod to its waterfront location, the restaurant features a nautical theme with an actual

porthole linking the lounge and dining room. A glass-enclosed fireplace and smokestack-style chandeliers above each booth pay quiet homage to the city’s industrial history. The contemporary design includes almost 200 guest seats – including eight at the chef’s counter

for those foodies who want to get up close to the action in the open kitchen. The facility also features an elegant patio (opening soon) and a private dining area with flat screen televisions for meetings and presentations.Ken Stewart’s upscale design provides an appropriate setting for the exquisite cuisine. Noted for high-quality, impeccably prepared steaks, the restaurant serves USDA Prime that’s been aged for at least 28 days.

The WilleyvilleWhat is the Willeyville? A

restaurant and bar that focuses on seasonal American comfort food with a twist….making as much on premise as we can.

What is American comfort food? America is a melting pot so we draw upon what the heck we would want to eat at the time, while keeping in mind that our food should be familiar in either look or taste. Nobody likes a food snob nor would you want your chef to be one either. We have fun pushing the envelope and hope that our guest’s appreciate our drive, but our first goal is to make sure we are hospitable. Don’t get me wrong we do have some foodie words on our menu but chances are I had to look up the spelling and I know I mispronounced the words.

What Else Can You Do? We have a full scale scratch baking

program that is focused on old world baking methods which we can tailor to your needs both wholesale and retail. We also offer a number of our handcrafted consumables for sale at the restaurant or online.

Why do you make your own ketchup?

We make way more than just our own ketchup, but to answer that specifically, why not? Cooking is fun for us and opening up a can of ketchup kind of sucks. Our ketchup like a bunch of our other stuff is very familiar with a small hint of something different. We also make hot sauce, yeast, bread, tofu, miso, vinegar, grind our own flour, tortillas, cheese, salumi, etc.

So your kitchen may do all this but your bar suffers right? We take the same approach to our bar program. We make bitters, limoncello, tonic, vermouth, and ginger beer. I have a soft spot for our Moscow Mule which I hear is at the very least tied for best in the world, the Kremlin’s is supposed to be gangbusters.

So what is the deal with the Willey Wieners? Hot dogs

are delicious ours are just a whole lot more delicious, 100% all pork supplied from Miller Livestock Kinsman, OH. We grind, case, twist, and smoke the weiner’s twice a week along with our steamed brioche buns. We are quite proud of our wieners….you need to have one in your mouth soon and often. They are available at lunch and at the bar all day and night.

So what is up with the name, The Willeyville? It is an homage to John Willey who was the first major of Cleveland in the 1830’s. For a 20 yr span this area, or close to this area, was referred as Willeyville,

pronounced Why-lee-ville….do we know it is pronounced like that, well no…but the other way sounds like a strip club!

In 21 IncarnatIons sInce It began as a populist experiment at Cleveland State University’s Art Gallery in 1983, the People’s Art Show has become one of the region’s largest, most eclectic exhibitions. Always unjuried and uncensored, it is free and open to anyone and everyone. With (almost) no rules, artists have earned national attention in the past for their outlandish works. Will this year’s exhibition bring outrage? Controversy? Probably. At the very least, it usually manages to upset someone. This Thursday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m., the Galleries at CSU host an opening reception for this year’s show.

The People’s Art Show originated based on two fundamental ideas — that everyone is naturally an artist and that people intuitively understand art without any assistance from “experts.”

“The show was conceived to serve ordinary people free from snobbery, elitism, and pretension — no curators, no professionals, and no taste police,” explains gallery director Robert Thurmer. “The people themselves would determine what is in the show — every participant an artist, every artist a curator — no questions asked, nothing refused.”

Over the years, this open-door policy has inspired some very interesting works, as well as a New York Times article in 1992, and even earned Thurmer a phone call from radio host Howard Stern to discuss the controversy on air. Despite heavy pressure from the outside, as well as from the administration, Thurmer loyally defended the artists’ freedom to express themselves. Some exceptions have been made however. Most notably, the show has become a biennial, and some rules have been put in place for works that are illegal or dangerous to visitors. Still, the gallery staff does its best to include everyone and everything that walks through the doors.

This year’s show is the second People’s Art Show since the gallery moved to its beautiful, new(-ish) location in the former home of the Cowell & Hubbard jewelry story next to Playhouse Square in downtown’s Theater District. As usual, the exhibition is hung salon-style, with works covering nearly every inch of the gallery’s walls. The entries span

the full spectrum of traditional and non-traditional media in both two- and three-dimensions by artists of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels.

Sure, not every entry is a masterpiece, but the show itself

is worth celebrating. The People’s Art Show is an opportunity for our community to unite around art made by our talented, passionate residents. It’s the only large-scale, community-centered exhibition in the region that

is completely free and open to the public, as both participant and viewer. Sometimes money can become too
