Exchange Money You may want to exchange some money at the airport to buy your bus ticket and enough to cover you for a few days, as the local Cathy United Bank on campus only exchanges USD, EUR, JPY, HKD, and CNY.Pick-up service

Feng Chia University will provide pick-up services from Taoyuan International Airport to our campus. The pick-up services will be arranged as following for you to plan the flight accordingly:

1. 12:00 AM, July 05 2. 12:00 PM, July 06 3. 06:00 PM, July 06 (may modify)If you decide to make your own travel plan, please make sure you arrival at Feng Chia University by 20:00 on July 06 by transportation of your own choice. You may contact your study buddy (volunteer student) first. The students from the International Linkages Volunteers are willing to assist in picking up foreign students at the airport. Based on the user-pays principle, the expenses caused for the pickup should be taken care of by the foreign students, which is about NT$1000, including bus tickets (Taichung ( airport) and taxi fare (Chaoma ( Feng Chia University). Please let Amanda Chen know about your decision so that she can have this arranged in advance.

Bus to TaichungOnce you have decided to take a bus straight to Taichung, turn left upon entering the arrival hall of Terminal 1, after having passed through the customs inspection. At the end of the hall you will find many ticket windows selling bus tickets to various destinations. If you arrived in Terminal 2, you will find the long-distance buses when you turn right and walk all the way down. Purchase a ticket to ChaoMa, which costs NT$220-250 (it is the stop closest to our University, so it will save you considerably on cab fare). Once you have purchased your bus ticket, proceed to the exit to the left of the ticket booth and head for the last bus stop on the right. The one on the corner is the one for Taichung. If you are unsure, just ask the representatives. Tickets often have the departure time and seat number marked, so you will have to check what time your bus leaves, since it wont necessarily be the next one. The trip takes about 2-3 hours, depending on the traffic conditions. Show your ticket to the representatives and they will be happy to escort you. When boarding the bus, ask the driver to tell you when to get off, because some of them will shout the name of the station they are approaching, while others dont bother telling whether and where they are about to stop. Be sure to keep the ticket stub, because you may have to hand it back to the driver when you get off the bus. Use the following strip when necessary.(Id like to take a bus to Taichung Chaoma.)

Taxi from Chaoma bus stopAll taxis in Taiwan are yellow, in order to be more visible and uniform. You should pay between NT$ 100 and 150 for the ride to the University dorm, depending on the traffic conditions. Exit from Freeway ViewFrom this location, you will likely need to get off the bus soon. Chaoma is about 400m ahead.Ubus CompanyYou will be let off in the back. You can then make your way to the front for a taxi.

Car Rental to Taichung

Dislike the hassle to drag heavy luggage while managing to figure out how to get to Taichung? Another option is to hire a cab for your exclusive use. Inform Amanda Chen from the Office of International Affairs at [email protected] of your need once you have the flight details, and she will arrange a chauffeur to pick you up at the airport and drive you directly to the dorm in Taichung. The charge of the great service is about NT$2,500 for one cab. Therefore, its better to arrive with your schoolmates to split the fare. As you need to pay the chauffeur right after arriving at the destination, exchanging money at the airport is advised. With Volunteer Students HelpEach international participant can be assigned a volunteer student to help you with staying at FCU or in Taiwan, also to be your private Mandarin tutor. HousingFCU Student Dormitory Bedding

What we provide in a dorm room are beds, chairs, desks and closets for two students, including new bedding sets. You may bring your own bedding if that makes you feel more comfortable while staying abroad. Internet

FCU provides broadband and wireless networks around the campuses.

Leaving Taiwan (August 1, 2014)

We will arrange a bus to give you a ride to Taoyuan International Airport. The departure time is at 8:00 a.m. You may plan your return flight according to this schedule. WeatherTaiwans climate is subtropical. In July, the warmest month, the island's temperature goes up to 27C with the north slightly warmer than the south. Summers are hot and humid: walking out of an air-conditioned mall in August feels like being wrapped in a steaming towel. In the winter, the coldest average temperature for the north is about 15C in February while that for the south is around 19C in January. Typhoons visit the island from June to October, more frequently in August and September. On average 3.5 typhoons hit Taiwan every year, causing heavy rains and environmental damage. But mild typhoons bring timely rainfall for the forests and crops.Taiwan is also prone to earthquakes, sitting as it does on the colliding Eurasian and Philippine plates. Before you curse the forces of geology, consider that these grinding plates are also responsible for the beautiful mountains and amazing hot springs that make a trip to Taiwan truly worthwhile. Most of these quakes are small earth tremors.Electricity & Water

Taiwan uses electric current of 110 volts at 60 cycles. If you bring appliances that use 220-V to 240-V, you must use an adapter.

Unboiled tap water is not drinkable. Bottled water is easily available at convenience stores and supermarkets.JOURNEY TO TAIWAN R.O.C:
