The College of General Studies

The College of General Studies (CGS) is the entry point to Liberty’s academic programs. CGS faculty are committed to instilling the knowledge, values, and skills necessary to help students succeed in their chosen majors and careers. CGS courses introduce students to a wide variety of academic subjects, which allows them to further develop a biblical worldview while strengthening their communication, math, and critical-thinking skills.

School of Divinity

Our students are equipped to study, understand, and apply the Word of God in a variety of ministry environments. School of Divinity graduates are engaged in full-time ministry as pastors, youth ministers, missionaries, and leaders in the United States and around the world.

School of Aeronautics

The School of Aeronautics trains professionals in commercial, corporate, and military aviation, using state-of-the-art planes, equipment, and flight simulators. Students are prepared to be leaders in their field and to exhibit sound judgment, a professional attitude, and a strong Christian character.

School of Behavioral Sciences

The School of Behavioral Sciences exists to promote an integrated understanding of science, practice, and faith. Programs prepare future graduates dedicated to impacting the fields of psychology, counseling, and social work within the context of a commitment to scientific competence and the demonstration of best practices supported by a Christian worldview.

Our business majors are distinguished by their character, work ethic, and Christian values. Students are challenged intellectually and spiritually by experienced professionals and have a variety of opportunities for real-world training — both nationally and internationally.

Helms School of Government

The Helms School of Government prepares your student to understand and articulate the biblical roots of our religious, economic, and political liberties. Students can major in government, international relations, or criminal justice, and are equipped as Christ-centered leaders, able to apply God’s Word to every area of life. Liberty also offers the Washington Fellowship, allowing students to spend a semester interning and networking in our nation’s capital.

School of Communication & Creative Arts

The School of Communication & Creative Arts is broken into four departments:

• Cinematic Arts, Zaki Gordon Center

• Digital Media & Creative Arts

• Studio & Digital Arts

• Theatre Arts

Students study under distinguished professors and gain firsthand experience by working at Liberty’s many media outlets, such as 90.9 The Light campus radio, the Liberty Champion campus newspaper, the Liberty Channel, Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN), and WTLU24, Liberty’s new 24-hour full-power TV station. The Studio & Digital Arts Department prepares students with a theoretical and historical understanding of studio art or graphic design and gives them the practical skills they need to work in these fields. The Cinematic Arts department is designed to engage students actively in the digital and media delivery revolution that is transforming all areas of contemporary culture. In addition, the Department of Theatre Arts provides instruction in the theory and practice of theatre performance and production, preparing students for success in their personal and professional lives.

School of Engineering & Computational Sciences

The School of Engineering & Computational Sciences encourages undergraduate research and the effective application of technology. Our focus is to train Christ-centered men and women with the values, knowledge, and skills necessary to impact engineering and technology-related disciplines in the 21st century. We offer the following concentrations: computer, electrical, industrial, and mechanical. The School of Engineering has several programs accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology..

School of Education

Committed to developing professionals with a Christian worldview, Liberty's School of Education focuses on both rigorous academics and practical experience. Each program requires specific field experience with an emphasis on serving in a variety of diverse

environments. The school is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and graduates are being hired by public schools, private academies, businesses, and sports organizations all over the world.

School of Health Sciences

The School of Health Sciences prepares men and women to integrate current scientific theory with a biblical worldview. Areas of study include biology, chemistry, exercise science, forensics, and wildlife biology. Students can also prepare for medical school by earning a degree in biomedical sciences.

School of Music

Liberty University’s School of Music trains musicians to serve as performers and music educators in a variety of commercial and academic markets, as well as church and parachurch ministries. Liberty alumni who have gone on to successful music careers include Christian recording artist Meredith Andrews and musician and businessman TobyMac, among others. The 2015-16 academic year will see the completion of a new School of Music

facility, comprised of two linked, 4-story buildings, including a fine arts auditorium with seating for up to 1,600 guests.

School of Nursing

Liberty University's School of Nursing provides more than 800 residential students with a comprehensive clinical experience as well as a foundation in nursing skills, behavioral and social sciences, and the liberal arts. Utilizing innovative technology and encouraging compassionate medical care, the School of Nursing equips graduates from the bachelor’s to the doctoral level to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of each patient.

The College of Applied Studies & Academic Success (CASAS) employs full-time faculty and staff representing several departments. CASAS helps students progress academically by providing numerous support services.

Ten Ways CASAS Invests in Your Student:

1 New Student Seminar (NSSR 101): Provides an introduction to Liberty’s mission, Christian worldview, and academic expectations for new Liberty students.

2Professional Advisors: Assigns advisors by major and provides assistance transitioning to college. They review goals, guide students through class registration, monitor graduation progress, and create plans for academic and personal success.

3Bruckner Learning Center (BLC) offers the following:

• University-wide academic support, including mentoring and courses in college learning strategies

• Foundational math classes, instruction, and tutorial support through the Math Emporium

• Tutoring/testing services

4 Eagle Scholars Program: Provides mentoring and the opportunity to develop leadership skills through community projects.

5Center for Writing & Languages (CWL): Offers free writing and language tutoring services, as well as assistance in writing scholarly research papers. It is the umbrella department for the Undergraduate Writing Center, Online Writing Center, Graduate Writing Center, Foreign Language Lab, Online Foreign Language Lab, and Spanish Writing Center.

6 Office of Disability Academic Support (ODAS): Assists with academic accommodations, offers an Assistive Technology Lab, and oversees the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services.

7Technical Studies program: Allows students to add value to their degrees through electives, a minor, or by earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in specific skills, including plumbing, electrical, welding, Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning (HVAC), and carpentry. This program is certified by the National Center for Construction Education and Research.

8 Center for Digital Wellness: Provides a variety of resources on the healthy use of technology.

9 Individualized Programs of Study (IPS): Provides students with the option to combine specializations in order to pursue a degree that is not currently offered.

Career Center: Offers career and education planning inventories, résumé and cover letter assistance, mock job interviews, career fairs, career counseling, internships, the Washington Fellowship, and a nationwide job database called LUNETWORK.

Office of Student Leadership

Liberty University’s Office of Student Housing coordinates on-campus room assignments and facilitates off-campus living requests. Ensuring safe, secure, and clean residence halls, Student Housing communicates with other university departments to maintain quality living standards.

Students have numerous accommodations to choose from, such as traditional-style hall housing, quad-living residences, apartment-style living, and the new centrally located 9-story Residential Commons. Liberty Dining offers multiple locations, a comprehensive catering department, fun events, and concession stands at major sporting events. With the help of an experienced executive chef and a registered dietitian, Sodexo provides healthy and delicious dining options for your student.

Meal swipes are used in the dining hall, which is open all day; Bonus Meals can be used at several on-campus locations to redeem a meal at no extra cost. Flames Cash is accepted at all dining locations on campus as well as many popular off-campus sites. Many locations also offer a Flames Cash discount.

The Liberty University Police Department (LUPD) provides a safe and secure environment on campus. LUPD has officers on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Police officers have the same responsibilities and powers as those of a municipal police force.

Students must have a key to access their residence halls, and resident assistants perform nightly room checks to ensure all students are present. In case of

an emergency, students should have a dedicated speed dial for the LUPD Emergency phone number.

Additionally, an emergency campus alert system is used to notify students of critical situations on campus. We strongly suggest all members of the Liberty family to sign up for these notifications on the LUPD website. Campus parking information can also be obtained there.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires Liberty to have a completed waiver from your enrolled student before discussing his or her educational or financial information with you.

Using Liberty’s FERPA PIN system, the student may grant permission for the university to release some or all private information to designated persons. This waiver can be accessed through the student’s ASIST account by clicking “General Information,” and then selecting “FERPA Personal Identification Number.” We encourage you to read the standards in order to understand the role of Liberty and the student. Commuter ServicesCommuter Services is committed to connecting commuter students to Liberty’s campus academically, spiritually, and socially, while helping new arrivals transition into the Lynchburg community.

Should your student be eligible and choose to live off campus, commuter orientation will provide them with important information pertinent to their move, including a guide to bus transportation, ideas on how to become involved with commuter small groups, and tips for first-time renters.

Selah Yearbook

Selah Yearbook chronicles the academic year’s activities and events, remarkable student stories, athletic exploits, and campus upgrades. It also contains a full list of resident and online graduates.

The Student Service Center houses the offices of Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and the Registrar. These offices help students and parents find answers to their questions by referring them to the correct office. Card Services

The Flames Pass is Liberty University’s official campus ID card. It provides access to Flames Cash, which allows students to carry money in a safe and secure format. It also allows access to meal plans, facilities, services, and campus-wide activities. All

students are required to have a Flames Pass. Once Financial Check-In (FCI) is completed, students can request their Flames Pass online by visiting our website.

Once a student completes FCI for the first time, a Higher One debit card — Liberty’s banking partner used to disburse student account refunds — is sent to their mailing address. After the student receives their Higher One card, they should follow the enclosed instructions to activate the card online for their refund selection preference. To set or change your refund preference, log into your account at LibertyUOne.HigherOneAccount.com, select the “Financial Refunds” button, and click “Refund Preferences.”
