2015 - 2016Qatar - Dafna

The Art Department at AHIS proudly presents a variety of special programs and events to meet the diverse interests of our students. Art classes include Glass Painting, Ceramics, Canvas Painting, Wood Carving & Burning, Paper Crafts, Charcoal, Pastels and more artistic projects that are linked to other subject area. Events such as the AHIS Annual Art Fair, International and Local Competitions Gifted & Talented Program, Teaching & Monitoring

Programs, and cross curricular activities are some of few methods that we follow to develop creativity within our students through the arts. We teach the visual arts as a means of creative expression and we encourage and challenge our students to think of art as a way to develop their own style and impact. The Art Department uses a variety of teaching methods that aid to develop artistic skills of our students. Some examples

of teaching methods are plans for individualized learning, hands-on activities, real-life projects, painting, drawing, sculpture, the annual program for exhibitions, outdoor painting sessions and more. The school ensures that students gain deep knowledge through meeting standards of the Art Curriculum and assessing their learning outcomes. The aims of the Art Department are to present

art as living history, teach art to enhance individual expression, and practicing art skills to cultivate visual enjoyment. These aims are achieved through technical means of expression. Subsequently, students gain experience outside and beyond their own personal or creative capacity.

ELEMENTARY

The 3D space ship is the best artwork that I drew this year because the colors are nice. I drew the car and it was fun.

We were having a lesson about Abstract Art, so I drew flowers in my picture, but they were abstracted. I painted the flowers that I like the most and I really love ladybugs so I drew one.

When I painted this picture I thought of sea creatures we learned about and what is under the sea. We reviewed different kinds of fish like clown fish, sharks, sea horses and octopus. It was really fun to paint and draw. I drew mermaids because they are really cute and pirates on a boat searching for treasure on an island with crabs.

Seeing the sunset in Doha is nice, the colors in the sky are blue, yellow, red, orange and purple. You can sit and eat and view sailors on the sea, watch the sunset. There are bridges that open with lights and it is fun to play fun games near the water.

So about my project… I made it in art class and we learned about Henri Rousseau, the artist who gave us the idea about the collage. We had to choose our background day or night. Then we drew and colored some animals, after that we took crepe paper and crumbled it into plants to make it into a jungle and that’s how we made the collage.

At first when I heard shape I got creative and loved the idea. First we had to trace out the shape with a pencil then trace it again with a black marker and color patterns. When we were done you cut it out but it looks 2D. You have to make the shape 3D by gluing the shape in a new way.
