2015-2016 CAREER DESTINATION SURVEY

WHAT IS THE CAREER DESTINATION SURVEY? The University of Arizona participates in a nationwide initiative to gather data about undergraduate students’ post-graduation outcomes. Findings from the Career Destination Survey inform UA’s strategies for improved student success. The survey is distributed to graduating students approximately two months prior to the end of their last semester and up through 6-months post-graduation. This document presents results from the Career Destination Survey among students who graduated with a bachelor’s degree between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016.

MAJOR FINDING. Data-informed insights revealed that average starting salaries increased by almost $1,000 compared to the previous year.

OVERALL RESULTS. For the 2015-2016 academic year, there was a 62% response rate (N = 4,240 among 6,873 bachelor’s degree recipients). Table 1 below shows a breakdown of the response rates by college.

GRADUATE SCHOOL. Survey participants were given the option to provide information about plans for graduate school. Among those who reported they planned to continue their education (N=1,265), 57% were already enrolled at an institution, and 37% (N=186) of those who reported the institution planned to continue their graduate studies at the University of Arizona.

EMPLOYMENT. Respondents had the option to provide information about post-graduation employment. Thirty-three percent (33%) of respondents (N=1,378) indicated that they were already employed or had accepted job offers. Among those, 92% were employed full time. Table 3 below displays survey results by college regarding employment and starting salaries. Tables 4-5 on the next page display job locations by city/state, region, and within Arizona, as well as top employers. Use the links on Table 3 to see more college-specific survey results.
