It’s time for another Girl Scout membership year! This year’s Council Program Guide includes programs for girls throughout the Delmarva Peninsula, including the return of popular programs as well as some new offerings. Of special note is the Chesapeake Bay STEM Fest, to be held February 6, 2016 at Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury, MD. The Punkin Fling and Fall Festival will return in October, this year to Camp Grove Point. One of our largest events, On My Honor: A Celebration of Achievement, will take place in January. Information about the Fall Product Program, Girl Scout Cookie Program, the Capital Campaign and The Bay Shop are also included in this guide.

As always, we are partnering with many cultural, environmental and educational organizations throughout the Delmarva Peninsula to develop and offer programming. Some of these offerings have registration through the group providing the program – please make sure to read the program descriptions. In addition to specific programs listed in the guide, many of these organizations are preferred vendors – troop leaders and other volunteers can contact them directly to arrange for programming meeting your troop’s needs.

2015 marks 100 years of the first Girl Scout troop on the Delmarva Peninsula. We wanted to celebrate this anniversary by “resurrecting” GSCB’s longest-running publication of 43 years. Before the social media boom, (or the internet for that matter) The Bay Window served as the main source of council communications to our members. We’re polishing this classic piece up as a comprehensive, monthly e-blast. If you would like to sign up, please visit: http://bit.ly/1TNgaZk. As always, we encourage you to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for real time updates and to join in the conversation!

We strive to deliver more environment-friendly communications in order to keep printing costs down as well as to keep our environment safe. While we are printing a limited number of copies of this guide, we will also post a full color, downloadable version of the guide on gscb.org.

Last but not least, we will be moving during the 2015-16 membership year to the new Northern Resource Center. We’re looking forward to serving many more generations of girls from this new location.

Here’s to a wonderful year of Girl Scouting on the Delmarva Peninsula!

Who Can Attend An Event? All girls are invited to attend the events listed in the Council Program Guide. You may attend with your troop, bring a friend or just come join the fun with your fellow Girl Scout sisters!

Checks need to be written in blue or black ink. Please make checks payable to GSCB and include a phone number and driver’s license number on the front of the check. Do not send cash through the mail. Payments will be processed as they arrive to the offices of GSCB.

Confirmations will indicate whether you have been registered for the event are on a waiting list. If a program is not filled by the closing date (14 days prior to the event), it may be cancelled and notifications will be sent via email.

Financial Assistance Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay is grateful to the many individuals, service clubs and businesses for their support of the Financial Assistance program. GSCB also receives funding for financial assistance from the Wilmington Flower Market, the Christmas Tree Shop, the United Fund of Talbot County and the United Ways of Delaware, the Lower Eastern Shore of MD, the Virginia Eastern Shore and Cecil and Kent Counties. Financial Assistance is available for all Girl Scout events unless otherwise noted. For more information, contact GSCB at 800-341-4007.

Cancellations and Refunds Events are held rain or shine unless inclement weather would adversely affect the program. In those cases, participants will be notified of cancellation and/or rescheduling of programs. If GSCB cancels an event for any reason or cannot place participants in the event of their choice, GSCB will issue a complete refund of the registration fee. If the minimum number of participants is not met 14 days prior to the program date, unless otherwise noted, the program will be cancelled. Cancellation and refund requests must be made in writing. 30 days written notice is required to receive 50 percent of registration fees of $7.50 or more per individual. No refunds will be issued if less than thirty days written notice is given, unless for medical reasons. Refunds for medical reasons will only be processed if notification is made before the event or within one week following the event, accompanied by a doctor’s note. No refunds will be issued for individuals who do not show up for their scheduled event. The $15 membership and $15 council service fee are non-refundable.

Religious Recognitions In addition to our My Promise, My Faith award, religious recognitions are developed and administered by each of the major religious groups. Through Girl Scouting, each girl is encouraged to become a stronger member of her own religion. Girls who choose to participate in one of these programs do so outside the regular troop meetings with a group of girls guided by a spiritual counselor or with their own families. For more information, please visit www.prayerpub.org or call 800-933-7729.

2015 collectible tins!

Our product programs are about WAY more than magazines, nuts and cookies!

Here are five essential reasons to support girls in their product program experience:

GOAL SETTING: Girls set program sales goals with their team and create a plan to reach them.

DECISION MAKING: Girls develop a basic business plan for program sales and work as a team to decide when and where to sell cookies and what to do with the money they earn.

MONEY MANAGEMENT: Girls develop a budget, take orders, handle customers’ money and gain valuable practical life skills.

Girls will begin taking orders after completing troop education.October 25 .............................................................Order taking ends.December 1-3 ..........................................Nuts and candy delivered.

Last year’s online purchasing experience was voted a success! Again this year, girls can ask customers to buy

nuts and candy online with a credit card and have items shipped directly to the customer. Coming back this fall with much excitement is to remember thisTM, a collection of custom photo books, calendars, cards and more!

Operation Taste of HomeFor 13 years, Girl Scouts and their customers across the Delmarva Peninsula have supported local active duty military members as well as people in need with magazine vouchers, nuts and Girl Scout Cookies.

GS COOKIE MOBILE!

Digital Cookie launched in 2015, offering a new method of selling for the Girl Scout. This groundbreaking enhancement means girls can do even more with their cookie businesses than ever before.

Be part of something big. Here’s how it works: the girl creates her personalized web site and includes her goals, personal statements, and a photo/video. Then, she identifies customers and markets to them through email with a link to her personalized site. She can track her business through a personalized dashboard and learn digital business skills. Customers place orders on her site, and select either direct shipment, delivery from the Girl Scout, or donation to Operation Taste of Home.

PEOPLE SKILLS: Girls learn how to communicate effectively with all kinds of people while participating in both product programs.

BUSINESS ETHICS: Girls are honest and responsible during every step of the sales process.

Buying Girl Scout Cookies is about so much more than just handing over money for a box of treats. It’s about the skills a girl gains from interacting directly with you – the cookie customer! It’s about the experience of running her very own cookie business and working with others – learning important lessons along the way. That’s why we encourage you to buy your cookies from a Girl Scout – the Cookie Professional!

Why Outside? Research shows that outside play has a much higher impact on a child’s development than playing indoors. Playing outside allows children to develop their movement capability and confidence—basically it does their minds and their bodies good! Give your Girl Scout the gift of her future by signing her up for an outdoor adventure or summer camp program. She’ll come home more creative, curious, self-aware and independent!

Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay currently operates four camp properties with a wide variety of amenities and activities.
