Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education
2015 ANNUAL REPORT2
Letter from PACE Core Team
Over the last 17 years, we have transformed PACE from a single institution membership and an idea to train potential new hires in CAD/Unigraphics before they entered the job marketplace, to a global educational enterprise partnership with 65 institutions in 12 countries. We recognize the strategic importance of skilled employees in our industry, as they are one of the most vital assets to meet the market needs in a competitive global economy. PACE has been at the forefront of transforming undergraduate Design and Engineering education by applying intentional engagement with interdisciplinary and international collaboration, to create dynamic and exciting contexts for teaching, learning, and skill development. We are breaking down cultural, language, time zone and interdisciplinary subject barriers globally, connecting people and applying experiential global collaborative learning from ideation to production using a real-world leading-edge technology infrastructure.
This year we were delighted to be recognized by the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) Society, which selected PACE to receive the IEOM Global Diversity Collaboration Award for contributing significantly to the professional development of students around the globe.
In 2015, PACE welcomed three new institutions during formal media events at their institutions, including MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (India), PSG College of Technology (India) and Hunan University (China). PACE also awarded Silver Certification to 7 institutions in 2015, bringing the total to 45 institutions that have received PACE Silver Certification since 2013.
As part of the PACE on-going effort to provide key software for students to develop hands-on skills with the same CAD/CAM/CAE tools used in today’s automotive industry, the PACE Executive Sponsor Council approved Mentor Graphics as the newest PACE Contributor, in the area of electrical system design.
In addition to providing leading-edge hardware, software and training to the PACE institutions, PACE partner and contributor companies enrich the program by serving as mentors and judges for global collaborative projects and course competitions. PACE sponsored 31 course competitions in 2015, with more than 2900 students from 28 institutions participating.
In July 2015, we held another successful Forum in São Paulo, Brazil at the campus of the University of São Paulo. All activities focused around our theme “Rethinking Mobility.” This was one of our best rated Forums ever, with 370 attendees from 46 PACE Institutions and 8 companies located in 11 countries around the world. The networking, relationship building, and idea exchanges combined with a rich itinerary of competitions, technology and collaboration training, paper and poster presentations, plenary sessions, state-of-the art technology presentations and future of mobility keynote speeches provides a unique environment that fosters global collaboration to help create the PLM team of the future. Several partner company senior executives attended and contributed to Forum activities during the entire week, with over 40 industry and technical presentations. The student energy and enthusiasm from the competition was apparent during the competition and awards ceremony.
It has been said many times that “PACE will be what we make of it.” We thank everyone who makes PACE successful around the world in so many ways.

IEOM Society recognizes educators, researchers, and professionals for significant contributions through teaching, research and publication, service, innovation, or leadership in the field of industrial engineering and operations management.
“PACE is well deserving of the 2015 IEOM Global Diversity Collaboration Award,” according to Dr. Ahad Ali, IEOM Society Executive Director. “PACE has contributed significantly to the professional development of students around the globe. As a result of improved industrial design and engineering curricula,
students are better prepared to compete in the global market-place. In addition, they are prepared to compete in regional and global collaborative student projects that require real-world application of theory and fundamentals.”
