THE GALA – DIRECTLY FROM SPAIN Featuring world-‐renowned flamenco dancer JOAQUIN GRILO and flamenco guitarist JUAN REQUENA along with local favorites MARIA OSENDE & COMPANIA AZUL For one night only, and directly from Spain, the Atlantic Flamenco Festival brings one of Spain’s most iconic dancers for a Gala performance to be held at the Spatz Theatre (Citadel High School Complex, 1855 Trollope Street, Halifax) on Thursday October 8, 2015 at 8pm as the highlight event for the 2015 Atlantic Flamenco Festival. Internationally acclaimed and award-‐winning Spanish flamenco dancer Joaquin Grilo will perform an electrifying show of this spellbinding Spanish art form to live flamenco music. Grilo’s unique style has initiated an unprecedented trend towards individualism in flamenco dance, combining the typical elegance and formality of orthodox flamenco with his looser more playful persona. Alongside Grilo are guitarist and composer Juan Requena and singer Carmen Grilo. One of the top flamenco guitarists of his generation and also internationally famed, Requena, has also toured the world, stamping the guitar chords with his charisma. The gala is a celebration of the flamenco arts in Nova Scotia, and will include opening acts by local favorites Maria Osende and Compania Azul. This magical night of soul penetrating flamenco is a once in a lifetime occasion. The passion, the intensity and the beauty you will experience, will create unforgettable memories that will transport you directly to Spain every time environment Canada delivers a weather warning.
