Fellow Cattlemen,

It is hard for me to find the words that describe the excitement I feel about this sale. This will be our first pro-duction sale and the first ever registered Black Hereford sale east of the Mississippi. This sale has been a goal and dream of ours ever since we started breeding and raising registered Angus and Black Hereford cattle. In the beginning we set our standards high and it has been a long pain staking road in order to reach the genetic potential that we desired in our breeding program here at Triple T Farms. Though the improvement of the ge-netics process never ends, we feel that we have achieved a level of quality and performance that will compete with some of the best in the nation.

Each breeding season we careful select multi-trait sires that match the genetic potential of our dams. We breed structurally correct, fertile, and functional cattle that will perform and produce you the cattleman a profit under most any conditions. The most important part of our business is a satisfied customer. Our long running Angus program has been the pride of our operation. However, we are just as excited about our newest addition, the American Black Herefords. Black Herefords are taking the cattle industry by storm. They are one of the fast growing breeds in the country. The breed offers genetic qualities that will work in so many different breeding programs, commercial or those of a purebred nature. They are not just Black Baldie cattle. Black Herefords must be a minimum of 62.5% Hereford to achieve registration and purebred status is achieved at 87.5% according to the American Black Hereford Association standards. They are the best of both worlds. They have the feed effi-ciency, along with the docility, and growth of the Red Herefords, while retaining the milk, grading ability, and low birth weights of Angus. All of these traits combined in a black hided package. It is the best of both worlds.In order to more quickly achieve the genetic standards that we desire in Black Herefords we have implemented an aggressive embryo program. A select few of these embryos will be offered in the sale.

Teresa and I, along with several others have worked many long hours planning what we hope to be a grand event. Our cattle along with the consigners have been hand picked so that we may offer you some of the best that each breed has to offer. There is not much that I can say that hasn’t been said or noted about the Angus breed. There is no doubt that in modern times that there has ever been a breed of cattle that has had more of an impact on the cattle industry than it has. No other breed can come close to matching the Angus breed for milk, fertility, and grading ability. The purebred registry is second to none and the endless genetic combinations for breeding regarding the commercial operation is unmatched. The Association is by far the most advanced in the industry for cutting edge technology at our disposal to use in order to enhance and further develop the breed and our own personal herds.

Breeders have numerous choices from all over the country available that enable them to make genetic selections in regards to bulls and female breeding stock. When we decided to have our first sale we knew that we would have to find some of the best in the breed in order to get breeders excited. I feel that after your review our of-fering that you will agree. We were very selective in the consignors that we invited for the Angus selection in the sale. All of the animals are from proven and reputable breeders that have balanced and performance proven herds that will rival any Angus offering that you will find anywhere. I am confident that you can find what you are looking for regardless of the nature of your operation.

The American Black Hereford is celebrating 20 years of color that you can count on. This young breed has successfully established itself as a fact and not a fad in the cattle industry. As a hybrid breed it is the genetic combination of the two most dominate breeds in the cattle world.

The American Black Hereford is much more than just a Black Baldie. For an animal to be considered for registering the animal must be at least 62.5% Hereford. They are considered to be purebred at 87.5% .Since its beginning, the American Black Hereford has been one of the fastest growing breeds in the country. The impact that it is making in both the registered and commercial industry is unmatched. By combining the Angus and Red Hereford in a black hided package, the genetic combinations are unlimited. The American Black Hereford through feed studies have proven to have carcass grading ability that will rival Angus, while still retaining the feed efficiency, growth, docility and maternal traits of the traditional Red Hereford. Black hided cattle have proven time and time again to top the market over red. The lower % Black Herefords have proven themselves to be outstanding in purebred commercial operations while the higher % or purebred is producing maximum heterosis and hybrid vigor in both crossbred and purebred cattle. With the isolation of the homozygous color gene in Black Hereford you can always be assured of black hided cattle in your calves no matter what color or breed that your cows may be. In most cases they will be black with white face. Whether you are interesting in becoming a seedstock producer or raising fast and efficient growing commercial cattle, the Black Hereford can be the source for you. EPD’s have become a staple in the cattle business in assisting breeders in making informed and educated breed-ing and purchasing decisions. While it is important to note that EPD’s are not the only area to consider in making your decision, they are an important tool that can help you determine what your needs are. Collecting useable and accurate data is what makes EPD’s work in an analysis of a breed. We always say you can’t measure what you can’t see.

At this sale, as it is a multi-breed sale, it is important to note that comparing one breed to another’s EPD’s is not an accurate measure. It is like comparing apples to oranges. Calculations are computed differently and many other factors are involved that make them different from one to the other. What is important is to compare within ones own breed.

While there is no doubt that due to the shear numbers and the history of the Angus breed that the Angus EPD’s in this sale provide a more accurate representation of a animals performance potential capability. The American Black Hereford Association realizes the importance of accurate EPD’s as they take their place in the industry as an important breed in cattle production. The breed has just reached the point that they are starting to receive enough data on animals that the accuracy rate will start improving greatly and represent a more true picture of the genetic potential in a particular animal. These bulls are all the progeny of registered angus females and registered Hereford sires. Under the rules of the american black Hereford association no animal may be registered as a black Hereford unless it is at least 62.5% Hereford, and developed under the rules and bylaws set forth by the american black Hereford association. F1 bulls have the ability to produce excellent terminal cross steers and heifers that have tremendous vigor, heterosis, eye appeal and growth. While F1 bulls will work well on most breeds of commercial cattle, they are utilized best when used on commercial cattle that are of a more purebred nature. While these bulls have not been tested for the homozygous color gene, they do possess at least one dominate black color gene. We therefore cannot guar-antee that all your calves will be born black. However, it is likely that a much higher percentage will be black than when one uses Hereford genetics. by using the F1 bulls to breed black based cattle the percentage of black calves should increase even higher since the black gene is usually dominant.
