WHAT THEY’RE SAYING...

“The crowd was alive... some sort of living, breathing entity with ear shattering, rock concert, airplane noise. It began to grow as it formed at 3 p.m. to await the chance to get into the building. It fl owed down the concourse, fi lling up the seats like lava fl owing out of a volcano. It rocked and rolled and roared.”

“The NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee is very appreciative that the College Basketball Invitational has chosen to experiment with the 30-second shot clock this March,” said Rick Byrd, committee chair and head coach at Belmont University. “The additional data we will receive from these games will be very meaningful to us as we meet this coming May.”

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING...

““It may be diff erent if we were a group of seniors and older guys. With a young group, you’ve gotta want to play. Every experience we could put these guys through, whether it’s going on the road to play games … we didn’t do as well on the road as we have in the past.”- - Texas Head Coach Rick Barnes, 2013 Participants

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“First of all, it gives us some experience playing in the postseason. Secondly, it allows us to keep playing. We are one of the few teams still playing and that is terrifi c for the program... it is terrifi c for our confi dence... it is a terrifi c overall experience. And fi nally, we have access to our players on a full-time basis right now which helps with player development, strategies for next year and builds our confi dence level heading into the spring, when we need that extra work. This is a wonderful tournament and great opportunity for our program.”- - Oregon State Head Coach Craig Robinson, after winning the 2009 CBI Championship

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“The championship is a best of three series. I repeat a best of three series! This is one of the best things I have ever heard of. This is how championships are won in the NBA and I love the idea of a championship series in college hoops. This allows for these games to actually feel like basketball games. Student sections, pep bands, and elderly boosters screaming their lungs out are all things that are lost in the NCAA championship but not in the CBI championship.”- - Benji Harris, Sam Page Sports

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“Our approach is to win a championship. You wouldn’t enter a tournament of any kind without trying to be the champion. For us, we have to take it one game and a time, and that’s our goal. There are only going to be four champions at the end of this month, and our goal is to be one of those teams. We are very fortunate - there are a lot of teams that don’t have any more games or any more practices, and we can continue to play and practice, which is a great thing. We still have the opportunity to win something big - which is a championship. I’m still hungry to play, and the players are still hungry to play. We are thankful they gave us an opportunity to participate in the tournament, and we are going to do our best every time we step on the fl oor.”- - Stanford Head Coach Johnny Dawkins, 2009 CBI Participants

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“(UCF head coach) Donnie Jones knows there will come a time next season when he’ll point back to something from Wednesday’s win against St. Bonaventure - the way UCF defended in the 2-3 zone or the way the Knights attacked off ensively with their drive-and-kick game - and realize the direct benefi ts of playing in the postseason.”- - John Denton, Knights Insider (2011)

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“The national title game was a dud, but at least I enjoyed the College Basketball Invitational fi nal - Oregon’s dramatic 71-69 victory against Creighton.”- - Gary Horowitz, Statesman Journal, on the 2011 CBI Championship

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“This is priceless for us. The tournament... it is the best thing going. We (Tulsa and Bradley) would have both been in the NIT anyway had that not changed and this is better because we’ve been able to play on home courts... we’ve been able to capture something that myself and (athletic director) Bubba (Cunningham) could never do with a marketing plan, so it’s awesome.”- - Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik, after winning the 2008 CBI Championship
