engaged IFN into the social media world with FaceBook and Twitter, and re-launched the new and improved IFN

website.

Policy and guidelines – Reviewed and enhanced policies and developed SOP’s of committee and implemented Sexual

Involvement and engagement – after construction of capital project of FPA (final preparation area)/LRC (Learning

resources center) was completed, we began working with community members to plan utilizing that area effectively

and hosting programs based on feedback of community members

IFN continued its focus in 2015 on Outreach activities, by facilitating the first Open Mosque Day and presented Islam

101 to schools and other institutions and participated in activities hosted by Lake County united.

Spring 2016

By-Laws Committee Masood Ahmed

http://ifnonline.com/By-Laws

In 2016, an Ad-Hoc Committee was formed to amend the by-laws in nine (9) different areas. These amendments were

based on suggestions from the community and then voted and passed in December of 2015. The new changes have now

been implemented and listed below:

1. Add the governance and reporting relationship of the newly introduced role of Imam/Religious Director

2. Add a women’s affairs committee for giving a voice to the sisters

3. Enhance the description of the Vice President as it currently has very limited responsibilities

4. Define explicitly membership start and end dates and when dues need to be paid

5. Enhance election process by explicitly defining voting methods, time of election, and terms.

6. Term limits for BOT members to facilitate introduction of new leadership

7. No more than 2 BOT positions up for election in a given year to ensure continuity in leadership

8. Quorum updates to facilitate decision making

9. Partial term vacancy changes to streamline elections to be at the end of each year.

Endowment Committee Masood Ahmed

http://ifnonline.com/Endowment

The objective of the endowment committee is to establish a robust structure and funding and investment mechanism for

an endowment (waqf). The aim would be for the endowment to have sufficient funds that can be invested and provide a

recurring revenue stream to IFN that can be used for the operation of the organization and for increasing services to the

community without having to rely on donations to fund those efforts.

Alhamdulillah, from the day the concept was introduced to the IFN community in 2011, the endowment has seen steady

growth and currently has an asset value of $500,000.

Milestones achieved by the grace of Allah (SWT) are below:

2011 – Concept introduced by the Board of Trustees and agreement in principle to establish endowment (waqf)

2012 – Endowment charter formally drafted and adopted by the Board of Trustees with the objective of reaching a

goal of $500,000 by 2015

2013 – Separate bank accounts established and endowment funds raised and set aside for future growth and

investment

2014 – Endowment fund incorporated as separate legal entity with the IRS under the name of Islamic Foundation

North Endowment Fund

2015 – Registration of endowment fund as 501(c) (3) initiated with IRS. Achieved the targeted goal of $500,000 which

allows the institution to trigger the investment of these funds as per the charter

2016 – IRS approval received for tax exempt status (see page 14) for IFN endowment fund. Effective 2015 any

donations of money, property, stocks, etc. to IFN endowment fund is now eligible for tax exemption to the full

extent of the law.

2016 Goals

• Establish investment policy and plan

• Investment process initiated with the goal of generating approximately $20,000 in 2016.

• Increase communication and transparency with the donor community

Spring 2016

Strategic Planning Committee Usman Ghani

http://ifnonline.com/IFN-strategy-2025

Alhamdulillah we are now in the implementation phase of IFN 2025 strategy. The Board of Trustees and the Executive

Committee are working together and divided strategic goals among themselves for effective execution. The board

continues to monitor progress and provided needed support to ensure the goals are met in a timely manner.

Below is a brief progress update:

Board of Trustees

• Imam: Alhamdulillah Director or Religious Affairs/Imam was hired earlier this year. The President, with the input

of the Imam, formulate annual objectives for the Iman and have been approved by the BOT.

• Endowment: Alhamdulillah Endowment has reached $500k. A separate 501 c entity, IFN Endowment Fund

(IFNEF), has been formed. The committee is currently evaluating investment opportunities

• Gymnasium and Pre-K School: An exploratory committee has been formed to conduct a feasibility study.

Executive Committee

• Under the leadership of the President, the below objectives are being managed by the Executive Committee.

Strategy Execution Teams (SETs) have been formed. These teams are at various strategies of the planning and

executions

• Improve IFN membership

• Partner with a certified counselor

• Programs to strengthen religious knowledge

• Maintain that at least 70% of the programs are financially self-sustaining

Fundraising Committee Fehmida Khan

http://ifnonline.com/fundraising

The Fundraising Committee (FRC) focused on raising funds for two (2) major causes in 2015. The first was for the

completion of the Funeral Preparation Area and the other for the hiring of an Imam. Both were successful and highlighted

by the Fall 2015 Fundraising Dinner where approximately $70,000 were raised specifically for the Strategic Planning

initiative of hiring an Imam.

In 2016, the FRC will continue to address the needs of the various committees as needed with the hope of having a more

established donor base formalized to ‘self-fund’ the IFN community.

Construction Committee Rizwan Shaikh

http://ifnonline.com/construction

The Construction Committee’s focus last year was to complete the Funeral Preparation Area in its entirety and also to

complete the Learning Resource Center (LRC) to a point where it could be used and still versatile enough for multiple

purposes. Alhamdulillah, both are being utilized and the LRC will inshaAllah now be in the 2nd phase in terms of amenities

and uses for both education and prayer as needed.

Spring 2016

Outreach Committee Amir & Helena Abushamaa

http://ifnonline.com/outreach

2015 Highlights

In the past year, the Outreach Committee continued to focus their efforts to the Lake County Community. Through

various events, approximately 800 individuals were introduced to the basics of Islam. A conscience effort was made to

interact with elementary, middle &high schools in addition to the local colleges as well as public service institutions such

as hospitals. A continued effort was made to expand inter-faith activities with the churches and synagogues as well. All of

year round interactions culminated to an "Open Mosque Day" event which was held throughout the Chicagoland area.

The event catapulted more dialogue with various institutions and individuals and invited the neighbors to visit IFN.

2016 Goals

In 2016, the committee is looking for more core volunteers to train and take part in the various events. It hopes to

continue and expand ongoing efforts to host visitors and present "Islam 101." With the great success of the inaugural

"Open Mosque Day," the group looks forward to planning and executing a larger effort for this day in 2016.

Security & Safety Committee Yousuf Mohammed

http://ifnonline.com/Security/Safety

In the past year, the property's camera and security system (CCTV) was upgraded to cover areas in which there was

insufficient monitoring and the system overall was upgraded for better performance. Also, this committee supports the

set up and handles the parking coordination during the weekly Jumuah prayers and nightly during Ramadan. The security

team currently is working on a more transparent plan to help route parking and safe driving on the property.

IT/Web Development Committee Zafar Mohiuddin http://ifnonline.com/IT/Website

This past year the IT/Web Development Committee set out to revamp the IFN website (www.ifnonline.com) so that it

would be able to act as an interactive and effective tool of communication. Accompanying the website, the Executive

Committee also established a stronger presence in various social media platforms. Specifically, a Facebook page for IFN

was created along with a Twitter account to further enhance communication to the community.

In 2016, the committee has a list of goals including upgrading the existing technological infrastructure and equipment,

modifying the website to address various bugs that have been reported in the past and execute a vision for future

planning from a technological standpoint. If any member has questions or concerns regarding email subscription or

alerts, contact [email protected]

Zakat Services Irshad Khan

http://ifnonline.com/Zakat

This past year the Zakat Committee was extremely busy as collections from the community were received throughout the

year. All Zakat, Fitra, and Sadaqa were received and distributed to qualified individuals. The Zakat Committee met on a

regular basis and in accordance with their updated policy & procedure, the Zakat Committee verified that each applicant

did in fact qualify to receive. The policy and procedure along with the application form can be viewed at the zakat

committee webpage under the services section.

Mentor/Tutoring Committee Oghay Kherzai

http://ifnonline.com/IFN-Mentoring-Tutoring

The IFN Mentoring/Tutoring program had an aggressive year in reaching out to already established organizations to bring

forth opportunities to IFN students, specifically but not limited to high school students. With the efforts of working with

Sylvan Learning Center, a practice ACT course was provided at IFN, free of charge. From the positive feedback received,

the committee was able to work with Sylvan and now offers an ACT preparation course at IFN.

In 2016, the program looks to expand the training courses and potentially provide an SAT preparation course and/or

practice exam. It will also continue to provide tutoring services to students of all ages.

Calendar Committee Saquib Ahmed

IFN has a growing tradition of generating a yearly calendar specifically for the IFN community at large, but open to all,

highlighting events/activities at IFN along with its many charitable businesses and donors.

The calendar committee intends to build their sponsorship base and continue to use the calendar to promote the IFN

community at large. Insha’Allah, the calendar will help keep the community abreast of the events throughout the year.
