2015 Technique of the Month Quilt

Saturday 28th March 8:00am to 6:00pm

This is a comprehensive class about paper piecing and applique, not cutting. You will have pre-cutting that

is required to be completed prior to class commencing. If you are unsure or would like assistance with your

cutting, you are welcome to come on Thursday 26th to get guidance with your preparation

If you are not prepared for class, you will not have an opportunity to do as much piecing during the

workshop. The cutting for this quilt takes time and organisation, and you will be given clear instructions

before the workshop to ensure you are best prepared if you would prefer to do this at home.

Although you will cover all the techniques required to complete the quilt, it is unlikely you will complete

the entire quilt top over the 4 days.

Cost: $495 covers the cost of tuition & Queen Size pattern with papers. Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea provided Friday to Monday. Tea & coffee facilities available at all times! $45 non-refundable deposit payable upon booking, remainder due 28th February 2015 You are welcome to pay the cost in instalments, either via our website, phoning the store directly or via direct bank deposit. Cancellations made before 28th February 2015 will incur the $45 fee only, we will retain 40% of the total fee if cancellations are made after this date.

Group Dinner: Saturday 28th March 6:30pm (individual expense)

Accommodation: At your own expense. Refer to Accommodation Details Information. A complimentary daily pick-up and drop-off service is available to all visiting attendees staying within a 10kms distance. Please also contact us if you require a pick-up service from the Brisbane or Maroochydore Airport.

Kits: Fabric kits are available upon request and must be pre-ordered and paid in full by the end of February 2015. (The kit is not mandatory) Cost of $450 for full Queen Size quilt. Colour options will be released in December 2014. (Option 1 pictured). Fabric will be substituted where availability requires. You are welcome to make an appointment with Joanne to get assistance with picking fabric at Sew This & That. We recommend doing this prior to 28th of February to ensure availability of fabric. Tool kits and all required items can also be pre-ordered. Full access to store stock will also be available during entire workshop.

Machine Hire: As the event is supported by Brother International Pty Ltd any customers flying in to attend are welcome to hire a Brother sewing machine for $40 for the duration of the retreat.

Joanne Wearing Judy Niemeyer Certified Instructor

I have been sewing since my early 20’s and am primarily self-taught. Finding a love for dressmaking and becoming more proficient at my craft, I have a keen eye for detail and paid particular attention to finishing details with my garments. Progressing from dressmaking and home wares made for family and friends, I progressed to featuring and coordinating Fashion Parades for School Fundraisers.

Due to the success and demand for my work and designs, I launched a private dress label. These ‘one-off’ garments were custom designed and made to order. As the demand for my work grew, I streamlined my work towards Evening and Bridal wear. This work in particular netted a great deal of personal satisfaction.

The idea of patchwork and cutting fabric into small pieces just to re-join it was somewhat confronting to begin with. I got my first taste of patchwork and quilting when I was asked to Applique the border of a friends quilt, this was the beginning of a dedicated passion for the art. After completing a beginner’s class, my 2nd project was a foundation pieced twisted log cabin with over 4000 pieces.

In 2006 jointly with my daughter Danielle, I purchased what is now known as Sew This & That, a store dedicated to Patchwork and Sewing. The store is located at Morayfield in Queensland which boasts a comprehensive class schedule covering all aspects of sewing. I am the advanced Quilting & Patchwork Teacher in the store and dedicate my time to developing the comprehensive classes. I also teach at local Quilting Guilds and have represented the Quiltworx label at industry trade shows.

After discovering Judy’s patterns whilst on holidays in Alaska, I contacted Judy directly and promptly found myself enrolled in one of Judy’s famed retreats. There I completed my prized Amazon Star & Glacier Star quilts.

After returning from that trip, I have not stopped growing my Trunk Show of Judy Niemeyer Quilts. Fast becoming the Australian expert for Quiltworx, I am proud to be the first Certified Instructor in Australia.
