Medical adviceWhen you’re not sure of what kind of care you need, our care team can help. Our care team can assess your situation and direct you to the right kind of care, or even help you handle the problem at home.

Hospitals and emergency careIf you have a life-threatening or serious medical emergency, call 911 or go directly to the nearest Emergency Department. If you’re admitted to the hospital after an Emergency Department visit, please have someone call Member Services on your behalf so we can help coordinate your care.

You’ll want to coordinate with your physician to ensure that all referrals and pre-authorizations are in place for scheduled inpatient care. For scheduled inpatient care, please use the following network hospitals in the KP Select network:

Urgent careWhen you have a non-emergency, unforeseen illness or injury that needs treatment quickly, your doctor may be able to provide you with a same-day appointment or have extended hours care available. You can also call the Kaiser Permanente Appointment and Advice Call Center for help anytime at 1-800-218-1059 (TTY: 1-800-521-4874).

Another option for feeling better fast is visiting an urgent care provider, who can help with medical conditions that include:

» Minor injuries and cuts

» Sore throats, coughs, and earaches

» Fever or flu-like symptoms

» Sprains, strains, and backaches

» Urinary infections

» Pink eye

» Sinus infections and headaches

Urgent care is available at several locations in the Colorado Springs area. You may also go to any Kaiser Permanente medical office in Colorado that offers extended hours care. The charge for urgent care or extended hours care is typically higher than a regular office visit, but less than an emergency room visit.*

PharmaciesMembers who choose the new KP Select plan will enjoy these benefits:

» You can have your first fill of a prescription done at a Kaiser Permanente medical office pharmacy or a network pharmacy.

» Refills for maintenance medication (birth control, high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, thyroid, etc.) at a Kaiser Permanente medical office pharmacy or through Kaiser Permanente mail order. Most prescriptions will be mailed directly to you via first-class mail at no additional charge to you within just a few days. Kaiser Permanente also has a pharmacy at our Briargate Medical Offices, 4105 Briargate Parkway, Suite 125, Colorado Springs, CO 80920.

» Fill non-maintenance medications for acute conditions, such as infections (antibiotics) or pain, immediately at a Kaiser Permanente medical office pharmacy or a network pharmacy.

» Refill 24 hours a day, seven days a week at kp.org or by calling 1-866-938-0077 (TTY: 1-800-521-4874). Please call in your refill(s) at least 10 days before you run out of your current supply.

» To find out more about the prescription benefit, members can call Member Services at 1-800-681-7878 (TTY: 1-800-521-4874) or call the Clinical Pharmacy Call Center toll free at 1-866-244-4119 (TTY: 1-800-521-4874), 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays.

Kaiser Permanente Mail Order Pharmacy

We make it easy for you to receive your prescriptions. You can order medications through our Mail Order Pharmacy service. Depending on your plan benefit, you can get up to a 90-day supply of medications for one or two copays, shipped to you at no cost. For initial orders, contact us at least two weeks before your prescription runs out; call 1-866-523-6059 (TTY: 711), weekdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

NOTE: Kaiser Permanente pharmacy and mail order pharmacy prescriptions can be refilled online at kp.org/rxrefill or through the automated refill service at 1-866-523-6059.



LaboratoriesFor routine laboratory work, members may take lab orders to any Kaiser Permanente medical office in Colorado with a lab (no appointment necessary), have lab work done in their doctor’s office, or go to Quest Diagnostics locations in Colorado Springs.

Please be aware that lab work performed at another location may result in a higher copayment or deductible. Refer to your Evidence of Coverage for details. To help avoid these charges when you have lab work done at your doctor’s office, remind staff that lab work must be sent to Kaiser Permanente for processing.

Surgery centersThese facilities are also known as same-day surgery centers or outpatient surgery centers. Your provider may refer you to a surgery center for surgery or a procedure that doesn’t require an overnight stay.

Behavioral healthKaiser Permanente has selected ValueOptions® to administer mental health and chemical dependen-cy services for our Southern Colorado members. Mental health and chemical dependency/substance abuse (including alcoholism) outpatient care is pro-vided on a self-referral basis. For help at any time, please call ValueOptions anytime, day or night, at 1-866-702-9026 (TTY: 1-866-835-2755). For a mental health or chemical dependency emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

There are also other options available for help:

» Call your primary care physician to make an appointment. Many physician offices also provide telephone services to answer questions.

» Take a class or webinar to explore mental health conditions: depressions, anxiety disorders, insomnia, couples communication, chemical dependency, anger, parenting, and more.

PRIMARY CARE

Kaiser Permanente Care ConnectionsKaiser Permanente Care Connections (KPCC) is a team of nurses, care and case coordinators, dieti-cians, and other health professionals that work with Southern Colorado members to help you manage your health. KPCC can assist you with:

» Health management for ongoing health conditions, including diabetes, asthma, COPD, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

» Complex care coordination if you have multiple health needs; complex care requirements when you’re discharged from the hospital or need to go to a skilled nursing facility.

» Wellness coaching to help you lose weight, get more active, manage stress, or make healthier food choices.

» Health education and resources available through Kaiser Permanente and in the Southern Colorado community.

» Preventive care assistance for maintaining good health with screenings and other recommended preventive measures.

Supportive care servicesCoping with serious illness is difficult. It affects the whole person and heir loved ones. Individualized care is available to help you and your loved ones understand what is happening, be more comfortable and confident in your care, and to feel supported by a team of experts.

Supportive care services helps to clarify goals of treatment, address fears and concerns, offers information on additional Kaiser Permanente programs and helpful community resources, and provides guidance on advance care planning.

Consultation with a program specialist will provide you with a plan for moving forward through the challenges that you or loved ones may be facing as a result of changes in health. Supportive care services is available at no cost to members who face a serious, chronic, or terminal condition.

A clinical consultation includes:

» Counseling: a place to talk about your concerns and gain emotional support.

» Education: about your diagnosis, treatment, and options available.

» Information: on programs and resources as well as helpful tools for planning and coping strategies.
