The search for a student house can be a long and arduous process — scouring the internet for deals, and visiting countless places with your mates until you settle on the one that suits you best.

Maybe you want to live in private halls, with everything given to you on a nice clean plate. Or maybe you want to live in the classic shared house with 10 other mates, each as allergic to the washing up as the next. Either way, you'll need to have a good think about where you're going, because you'll be there for the next year — so you don't want to regret it!

There are absolutely loads of great options out there, so choose wisely. It’s not always about the cheapest rent, think about the amenities and the area too — Does it have internet? Is there a washing machine? Where is the nearest bus stop to uni? Where is the nearest pub (v. important)?

This place has recentlyundergone a huge refurband it barely recognisable asits previous incarnation. Franks Bar does two thingsvery well - sports and booze!They’ve got more tellies thana Curry’s warehouse, and someeye wateringly cheap drinksoffers throughout the week. Certainly worth checking out!

Almost certainly the bestbreakfast on Smithdown, andquite possibly the best veggiebreakfast in Liverpool.Kerouacs is a little diner, whereyou can sit in a cool booth,check out the even coolerartwork, and listen to somepretty damn cool jazz whileyou’re doing it. It is also run bywhat some have described as“Liverpool’s Soundest Man” - so there you go!

Walking around Smithdown Road, on first glance you could be fooled into thinking that the area was a suburban hub of fried chicken, newsagents and hairdressers. But take a look closer and you’ll spot some of the best bars and eateries outside of the city centre.Evil Eye Beer and Burrito Shack is a prime example of this. With an interior decor reminiscent of a European bar crossed with a Day Of The Dead theme, and more Mexican movie posters than you’ve probably ever seen in one place, Evil Eye is the sort of place that Smithdown has been crying out for, for a long time.

The food, largely burrito-orientated (as you might have gathered), is incredible. You can sit and watch the chefs cooking it fresh in front of you, as you sip on a cold pint of Mahou (pronounced maoow, by the way) and tuck into a portion of cheesy salsa nachos while you wait.

It’s important to remember that Evil Eye isn’t a restaurant though, this is quite clearly a bar that just so happens to serve awesome burritos. They also have a cracking selection of beers, tequilas and rums on offer. You don’t need to eat, but you would be very silly not to!
