BURLINGTONDOWNTOWN.CA ADVANCING & PROGRESSING TO ENRICH THE DOWNTOWN EXPERIENCE SUMMER 2015 QUARTERLY MEMBERSHIP NEWSLETTER 2015 More culture, new faces, fresh ideas — more to explore! On Thursday April 30th, I accepted the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors for your business association at the BDBA’s Annual General Meeting. As a partner in Martin & Hillyer, Lakeshore Law Chambers, I’ve made Burlington my home and operated our law firm in the downtown since 1972. While the downtown landscape has changed markedly over the decades, what has not changed is the reality that the health of the City is intimately linked to the health of the downtown. The Association has an ambitious work plan for the year ahead. Your Board extends a warm welcome to over twenty seven new property owners to our business family this year. The boundaries of the BIA were officially revised in March to include areas to the east, west and north of our traditional downtown. We are investigating a banner campaign to demark our new BIA boundaries. Our Association now speaks with a voice of 430+ members strong. Highlights for this year’s work plan include, among other projects, an “on-street patio” program, a strategic investment in business recruitment, involvement in the revision of streetscape guidelines for the core, and, new programming during Downtown Streetfest this Father’s Day weekend. I look forward to leading a team of dedicated volunteers and staff through an exciting year of change for our business community. On behalf of the Board, staff and members of the BDBA I’d also like to express my gratitude to Jason Stoner, past chair, for his leadership, dedication and many years of service to building our strong Downtown.
