Field Goods, based in Athens, NY, has hit the trifecta for doing good, or in business jargon it is a triple bottom line company. The t h r e e p i l l a r s o f s u s t a i n a b i l i t y —people, planet, and profit—are at the core of its success. F i e l d G o o d s i s a s u b s c r i p t i o n produce del ivery service. Subscribers receive a weekly delivery of 6-8 fruits and vegetables, at the cost of just $20 to $30. The company delivers from Saratoga to Yonkers. Field Goods delivers to workplace and community sites, and has been largely promoted as a wellness service, often in conjunction with existing company wellness programs.

Field Goods Founder, Donna W i l l i a m s s a y s a s i g n i f i c a n t motivation behind Field Goods is wellness. “I designed it to be a wellness program,” she says. “If you get a bag of vegetables every week you will eat the vegetables, whereas if you go to the grocery

store you might buy the cookies and not the vegetables. It really changes people’s eating behavior.” This was proved to be the case by a 2014 study performed under the direction of Dr. Rayane AbuSabha, Associate Professor of Nutrition Science at The Sage Colleges. The study showed that a weekly delivery of local produce has a statistically significant positive impact on maintaining a healthy diet. The study also determined that subscribers spend less on groceries and make less trips to the grocery store.

Donna Williams founded Field Goods in 2011, after she was laid

off in the 2009 financial meltdown “I had always dreamed of running my own business and necessity f inally made it happen. Over my almost 30 year career, I have had a number of professional reincarnations and worked for several different companies. Two of my favorite jobs were with start-up companies. So at the ripe old age of 49, I started working on my idea for Field Goods,” she says.

One of the most rewarding facets of the business is working with almost 80 different small farmers in the region. The company is committed to working with small farms and was recently awarded a USDA grant to build a website to help it do this. Field Goods was recognized for its commitment to hiring disabled and was awarded Ulster-Greene ARC Employer of the Year.

LadY seNsei :Teaching women The empowerment self defense

Lady Sensei is a motivational speaker and martial arts instructor from New York City. Beginning her martial arts training at 44 years of age, she is an inspiration and role model to woman of all ages. Today in her fifties, she shows no signs of slowing down, holding two black belts in Ninjutsu and Vee Arnis Jitsu. Respected as a proficient a n d en er ge t i c instructor, she provides onsite self defense and safety instruction for groups and organizations.

Lady Sensei’s i s a domes t i c violence survivor and ex-military wife, and found a healing energy by training in the martial arts. The physical training dramatically improved her health and wellnes, and she has blossomed into a dynamic and highly skilled instructor. Lady Sensei has used her experiences to design workshops which are female centered and non fear based.

She teaches women of all ages awareness, and that it is never too late to learn how to take care of themselves. Lady Sensei believes that self defense is empowerment. Her myriad of life experiences enable her to walk a mile in the shoes of many of her students, connecting with women from all walks of life.

Lady Sensei’s background includes her work as a Psychiatric

E m e r g e n c y Response Team member and certified Crisis P r e v e n t i o n instructor for the New York C i t y H e a l t h and Hospitals Corporation. She holds a Master’s Certificate in H e a l t h c a r e L e a d e r s h i p from Cornell Universi ty, a M i n i M B A from Rutger’s U n i v e r s i t y i n B u s i n e s s Essentials, and she received a Statement of Achie vement from New York Un i v e r s i t y ’s Stern School o f Bu s i n e s s , E x e c u t i v e E d u c a t i o n

Program. Lady Sensei holds professional memberships in the National Speakers Association, The American College of Sports Medicine, The National Womens Martial Arts Federation, and the Association of Women Martial Arts Instructors. She teaches in North Carolina and New York City.
