Welcome to the 20th Annual Power of the Reds sale!
It has been a great time to be in the cattle business in general for the last few years with all classes of cattle seeing some all-time record high prices. Red Angus cattle have made their way to the forefront of the cattle business not by being the next big fad or hype breed but by doing a lot of things right for a long time. In a time where all other breeds have been declining, Red Angus has been on a steady growth curve, going from a breed that had a few dedicated breeders to being the 5th largest breed in the industry. The Red Angus cattle are good, functional cattle that are closely associated with the needs of the commercial cattle business’s needs. As we travel around the country it still amazes me at the number of new faces that we continually see coming to the Red Angus breed. Some are coming to us from other breeds and some are new breeders that have decided to start their first herd with Red Angus cattle. One thing I do see is that the Red Angus breed is no longer the best kept secret in the cattle business. Many of the breeders consigning cattle to this sale are long time breeders of Red Angus cattle and it is to their credit that not only the breed but this sale has become successful. As you study this catalog I believe that you will find genetics that could headline any sale in the country. We encourage you find the genetics that will work in your program and if you have any questions please feel free to contact the consignors directly or myself. We will be happy to assist you in any way that we can when making your selections. We look forward to seeing you in Macomb, Illinois but if you cannot make it to the sale in person feel free to call us. We will assist you in making any absentee purchases you may need to make. And as always, any bids will be handled in the strictest of confidence as you have come to expect from us.

This is a proven donor cow that originated in the well known DAMAR program in WI. She has already produced embryos that have sold in the “Reds on the Rocks” sale in Denver, not a bad track record for a 5 year old cow. Her sire was one of Travis Piepers favorite bulls and has proven to be an exceptional producer of females in his own right. She is bred to a Mission Statement son and don’t be surprised if she has a calf on her side by sale time or shortly there after.

Logan is a young Red Angus breeder that is just getting started with a small herd. As many of us have experienced over the years when we wanted heifer to keep his cows blessed him with bull calves. 304 is a combination of some older proven genetics marked with some of the newest genetics available. Nice birth to growth spread here!

Logan has brought us another son if the exciting Real McCoy bull from the Bieber program. His dam comes from the Rebelas cow family that is the back bone of many herds around the country. 302 has a really nice balance of EPD’s, starting at a -1.9 BW EPD and then posting excellent growth and maternal numbers as well. A nice bull from a young man that brought half of his calf crop to town in these two Real McCoy bulls.

We like Jericho for calving ease, calf vigor and the stoutness and muscle his calves have. We purchased his dam in a previous Power of the Reds sale from Dick Kealy. If you have any heifers to breed or if you just want to sleep more during next year’s calving season, look this bull up on sale day. Semen tested.
4108 is a Jackhammer sired yearling bull out of outstanding black-red carrier outcross cow from the Sunny Valley Queenette family. Dam is feminine fronted, deep, soggy, wide based and has good feet and udder quality. Dam’s pedigree includes Traveler and Mytty In Focus. Jackhammer calves have muscle, rib and power. Maternal brother sold for $6500 in 2013 in SD. Semen tested.

I often describe her as the cow that does nothing wrong as she has been flushed to several different bulls and always rings the bell. Here is a unique embryo offering. New Trend 22D X C-Bar Abigrace U875. I have the feeling that one daughter from this mating might just put you in a higher tax bracket. Both sides of this pedigree are well known for their ability to make extraordinary females on their own, im-agine the females that would come from mating them together! If you don’t have an ET program already in place you may want to start one with these embryos. The only reason these are being sold is because she flush of 19, 16 of which were grade #1. This embryo package highlights the SSS Soldier bull from Canada who’s progeny have been in extremely high demand. The donor dam is a daughter of the bull that first put the Rich Red Angus program on the map and a cow from the Abigail cow family. I has the pleasure of seeing some calves that would be very closely related to these em-bryos and they were flat good! excellent mating!

Here is a very interesting genetic opportunity. These embryos are sired by what may be the most complete Right Kind son ever produced in the 5L Independence bull. He also is in the extreme elite for the new herdbuilder index. I saw him as a 2 year old in the Jacobson herd and was impressed with his overall completeness from one end to the other. The donor dam has deep roots in both the Rich herd in Iowa and the Brown herd in Texas. The estimated EPD’s for the progeny from these embryos are off the charts.
