RECyCLE ART CALENDAR
Printing these calendars on 100% post-consumer recycled paper saved the equivalent of...
1,911 lbs. ofgreenhouse gases
979.5 lbs.of solid waste
8,761 gallonsof water
20 fullygrown trees
116 gallonsof gasoline
In the spring of 2014...students in Marion County were preparing their entries for the annual Recycle Art Calendar Contest. The students were encouraged to think critically about waste reduction, reuse, and why it is important to recycle.
Fourteen students in several grade categories received awards of gift cards valued from $100 to $200. Students with winning entries were also awarded certificates that were presented to them by the Marion County Board of Commissioners, Mid-Valley Garbage and Recycling Association (MVGRA), and Marion County Public Works – Environmental Services (MCPWES) at a televised ceremony in December.
MCPWES and the eight garbage and recycling companies of MVGRA provide ongoing recycling awareness and education by offering presentations, classes,
recycling demonstrations, and free learning materials to the community. If you are interested in learning more about recycling and the conservation of our natural resources, contact Mid-Valley Garbage & Recycling Association at (503) 390-4000 or Marion County Public Works - Environmental Services at (503) 588-5169. Protect our air and water - REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!
This art calendar was coordinated and developed by Griselda Puga, MCPWES Waste Reduction Coordinator; Todd Irvine, General Manager of MVGRA. All K-12 students that live in Marion County are welcome to participate in the upcoming contest. For more contest details, please call (503) 566-4159 or email [email protected].

Recycling 1 glass bottle can power a computer for 30 minutes. Glass is one of the best candidates for recycling because it never loses quality the same way other recyclable materials do. Bottles can be made into new bottles over and over again. -Earth 911
