Storybook Adventures Ages 5-7DATES: June 1–5 & June 15–19Picture books serve as the springboard into a theatrical adventure, giving your child the opportunity to develop fundamental acting skills while working as a team to bring stories to life! Exercising their natural creativity through movement, vocal work, games and improvisation, campers portray beloved storybook characters (as well as new favorites!) while gaining confidence and presence onstage. In Storybook Adventures, students will learn basic theatre terminology and skills that will help them as they progress into future theatre endeavors.
Treasure Trunk Theatre Ages 5-7DATES: June 8–12Every day your child comes into Treasure Trunk Theatre, a new surprise awaits! In this class, a magical treasure trunk and the ever-changing items discovered inside become the basis for a collaborative drama experience. Each day, campers will find something new within the trunk that will inform the story they collectively create and ultimately share with you onstage. Using movement, vocal work, improvisation and creative drama techniques, students will also stretch their imaginations and take ownership of their words, actions and ideas to develop a story like you’ve never heard before!
Staging Stories Ages 8-10DATES: June 1–5 & June 15–19Rooted in folklore, fables, myths and legends, children will grow their understanding of storytelling and acting fundamentals while elevating one of these classic tales to new heights on the stage! Working closely with their classmates, students will develop characters, explore plot, and create staging based on the words from the original story. Enhancing understanding and increasing knowledge of the theatrical process, Staging Stories provides students with the tools to build the essentials of acting, commitment, and teamwork.
Playvention Ages 8-10DATES: June 8–12Playvention? What is a Playvention, you may ask? Playvention is a made-up word you get when you combine play and invention. Playvention is also a class in which your child will have the best time ever inventing (devising, collaborating, writing, staging and performing) a play. Play invention. Playvention! Students in Playvention will test their creativity as they develop a basic story outline as a team, work together to create their own lines and staging, and then bring it all to life through the actor’s toolbox of body, voice and imagination.

Reading and Writing the City LifeGrades 9-12, min. 5/max. 12Writers become writers by letting their senses, and then their imagination, take flight. We will use this week to hone the skills of listening and noticing as we explore the city with notebooks in hand. We will go to malls, parks, and an art museum, for starters. The essays we read aloud (at the beginning of the day) will be fun, short, and compelling. It is a great follow up to Reading and Writing in the Woods. Or it can stand alone. Either way, you will be pleased with the work you do, and you will have a notebook that you will want to keep forever. INSTRUCTOR: Myra McLarey, Ensworth English InstructorDATES: June 15-18 TIME: 9:30am - 2:30pm COST: $225

Whether you are a first time actor or more experienced, this week-long short-course will give you the opportunity to set and achieve goals, and to get the workout that you don’t have time for during rehearsals. We will learn exercises designed to strengthen the actor’s body and voice, and explore a physical approach to harnessing the dynamic power of Shakespeare’s language. Participants should memorize an instructor-approved monologue prior to camp.INSTRUCTOR: David Berry, Ensworth Theater InstructorDATES: June 15–19TIME: 10:00am-12:00pm

The JAM is a musical experience like no other. Two weeklong learning sessions of intense music performance with some of the best student musicians in the area, as well as from other states. You bring your skills on vocals, guitar, bass, keys, drums, horns and other instruments, and we will put you in two bands with students who share your passion for music. The environment at the JAM encourages peers to learn from and inspire each other to perform at their best. Networking with other student musicians continues long after the camp is over, with many bands staying together through the year. Many of our students have gone on to perform on The Voice and America’s Got Talent and to sign recording contracts. During each week at the JAM, students are placed into two bands based on their age, skill level, and genre choice. They rehearse with each band for 4 days and play two live showcases at the end of the week to an audience of over 400 people. Bands are produced by professional musicians and songwriters. We welcome all vocalists & instrumentalists & songwriters. Weeks 1 and 2 are completely different from each other and allow the student to participate in a wide variety of genres and to maximize their music experience.
