SUMMER PROGRAM REGISTRATION INFORMATION Summer Program registration is available on a first come, first served basis and will
be conducted on-line. You can complete your registration from home, and pay by
credit or debit card, or print out the registration form and make payment at City
Hall using cash, check (made payable to Clifton Recreation) or money order.
Include your driver’s license number on all checks. The City will charge a $35.00
service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank. You will not be
registered until payment is received. If you do not have access to a computer at
home, you can come into the Recreation Department and use one of our computers.
Early registration is strongly recommended.
Pre-registration for the 6-week Summer Programs (Tots-O-Fun, Junior SportStar,
Summer Days in the Park, Allsport and CIT) are open to Clifton residents only
from the release of this brochure. Non-residents may register for the 6-week
Summer Programs beginning June 29th. Pre-registration for classes or
specialty camps is open from the release of this brochure to both residents and
non-residents. Program T-shirts may be purchased at our office for $6.00 and are
mandatory for all trips. Individuals registering late will be required to pay the
entire summer program/class fee (no pro-rating) and there are no refunds for missed
days. Children must meet age/grade requirements listed by the first day of the
program unless the description indicates otherwise. The Clifton Recreation
Department does not discriminate on the grounds of race, color, national origin, age
or disability to participate in our programs.
If you are creating an account on our website for the first time, please complete the
information for the parent first and then add any children. After the account is
created, it must be approved by the Recreation Department before you can register.
Once the account is approved, you will receive an email from us and you may then
register for any programs that you are interested in.
If your child did not participate in the Summer Programs in 2012-2014, you must
submit a copy of your child’s birth certificate and immunization records. You may
submit them by mail: 900 Clifton Avenue, Clifton, NJ 07013; by email:
[email protected]; or by fax: 973-815-0599. Registrations without these two
items will not be considered complete and your child will not be able to attend the
summer programs. All participants must send in proof of residency with
registration via above methods or your registration will not be considered
complete.
Summer program scholarships are available for Clifton residents and are only
available for the 6 week Summer Program not for trips, special events, specialty
camps or classes. If you are in need of assistance in paying for summer programs,
please contact the Recreation Department for more information at 973-470-5956.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
“It Takes A Village” 8
The mission of the Clifton Recreation Department is to provide the community with a wide
variety of youth, adult and family activities that offer our citizens the opportunity to use
personal leisure time in a viable, productive and gratifying manner at various facilities that
provide both active and passive atmospheres while maintaining historical and environmental
awareness. The Department staff place both the concerns of the park system and the
programming of unique and quality programs at the forefront of our priorities. Our greatest
audience is in our special events that are conducted on an ongoing basis. The most popular
ones include: Concert Series, Halloween Parade, HarvestFest, Mystery Hayride, Candy Cane
Hunt, Easter Bunny Bash, Drive-in Movie, Family Campout and Youth Week. In addition to
the special events, partnership opportunities are available for athletic teams, special needs, site
amenities and more. Our events are supported, in part, by our operating budget combined
with the financial and in-kind donations from companies, organizations, service clubs and
individuals who understand the economics required to develop and support these types of
programs. Without this support, we would not be able to provide the quantity and quality of
programming that we offer.
HOW TO BECOME A PARTNER
There are many opportunities to partner with the Clifton Recreation Department. Whatever
option you choose, you will find it to be rewarding and beneficial to you and your
organization by giving back to the community and its citizens. There are three levels of
partnership opportunities:
Mustang – Marquee Partner
Stallion – Primary Partner
Colt – Associate Partner
PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND RECOGNITION
Partnerships can be financial or in-kind donations. The partnership opportunities include
ample opportunities for advertising and recognition for your company or organization besides
the great satisfaction of giving back to your community.
All donations are recorded and depending on your level of partnership, recognition will be
mentioned on: flyers, brochures, banners/signs, press releases, announcements, programs,
shirts, etc. Partners are invited to attend events and distribute information about their
organization/company at the events they are partners for, where introductions will be made,
and letters of gratitude will be sent following the event. Specific benefits of your partnership
level can be found on our website, as well as a list of all events and programs that provide
partnership opportunities. You may contact us via phone or e-mail at the following sites. We
look forward to working with you as you help to provide the citizens of Clifton with quality
recreational programming for all to enjoy.

The Counselor-In-Training program is a development program for youth who have completed 9th
grade
and up, or age 15 or older. The program is designed for young teens to learn the responsibilities of
becoming a summer program counselor.
CIT’s will be responsible for assisting in daily activities with the summer programs. Participants will be
required to attend all orientation sessions and staff meetings as well as be available for 5 of the 6 weeks
that the summer program is being conducted, which is July 6th
– August 14
th.
CIT’s will be placed at the different programs conducted by the Clifton Recreation Department
including: Tots-O-Fun, Junior Sportstar, Allsport and the 3 locations of Summer Days in the Park.
CIT’s do not get to select the program or location they will be working at for the summer and will
be notified of their placement at staff training. CIT’s must be able to get to their assigned program
site; no switching sites will be permitted.
All participants registered in the CIT program will be asked to come in for an interview to acquaint them
with the procedures of applying for a real job and to see if this program is the best fit for them. CIT
enrollment for the program is limited to 15 participants only. All CIT’s selected will be required to attend
staff training June 30th
– July 2nd
at the Community Recreation Center, 1232 Main Ave. Exact times will
be given during CIT interviews.
Each trainee will receive a mid-summer and final evaluation of their performance by the Site Director /
Sports Instructors and Youth Development Coordinator. A personal consultation will accompany each
evaluation to help the CIT’s learn more about their performances and provide an opportunity for them to
discuss any concerns or questions they may have encountered. A file will be kept on each CIT and
maintained at the Recreation Department.
The cost of the program is $50.00 (Residents Only), which includes two T-shirts. CIT’s are eligible to
attend weekly trips on Wednesdays with the Summer Days in the Park program (even if they are
assigned to a different program) for their enjoyment (not as a work day). CIT’s must pre-pay for each
trip that they wish to attend. If a CIT decides to not attend a Wednesday trip, then they do not
work that day. All other trip days (i.e. Camp Hope, Bowling, Summer Luau, Park Olympics, Summer
Picnic or Tots-O-Fun trips) are considered work days for the CIT’s in which they do not pay additional
fees. Trips can be paid online up until 3:30 p.m. on the Friday before each trip. Payment can be made by
credit or debit card online, or you can pay by cash or check at the Recreation Office. Once you pay for the

* I can’t get sunburned on a cloudy day. False: You can still get sunburned on a cloudy day. At least 80% of UV radiation can get through light cloud cover, so unprotected
skin can still be damaged.
*Temperature gives me a good idea of the UV radiation risk.
False: The heat from the sun is caused by infrared radiation,
not ultraviolet radiation, so UV radiation can still be very high even on a cool day, when infrared radiation is low.
*Sunscreen blocks out all UV radiation.
False: No sunscreen can fully block out the UV radiation – that’s
why you need to limit your time in the sun no matter what
sunscreen you’re wearing.
*Getting badly sunburned before the age of 20 increases my
risk of getting melanoma skin cancer later on. True: If you have a history of one or more sunburns before you
turn 20, you have a much higher chance of getting melanoma skin cancer.
*Wearing a shirt in the water is as protective as a rash shirt. False: A wet T-shirt may offer only half the protection it does
when it is dry. If you are going to be in the water, a rash shirt and sunscreen is your best form of protection.
