U.S. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY

The U.S. Open is the most prestigious squash tournament in the United States, and one of the most significant in the world.

Starting in 1954, the U.S. Open has a tradition of intense competition in a dynamic atmosphere. It has previously been held in iconic locations such as Michigan Avenue and Millennium Park in Chicago and Symphony Hall in Boston.

The U.S. Open has been held in Philadelphia since 2011, at the heart of the squash community, where Drexel University is transformed into a world-class showcase venue to host the prominent event.

The event forms part of the professional World Series tour for both the Professional Squash Association (PSA) and Women’s Squash Association (WSA). It is the only combined World Series stop for both the Men’s and Women’s tour offering full prize money parity.

The most recent data from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) shows a remarkable 82% growth between 2007 and 2011 to more than 1.2 million players. Participation in junior squash events has increased 400% in the same period with more than 1,500 youngsters vying for national interscholastic championships annually.

The US Squash Hall of Fame will induct the Class of 2015 on Saturday, October 17 at a luncheon held at Drexel University immediately preceding the U.S. Open men’s and women’s finals. All guests will attend the finals.

The Champions Dinner is the culminating event of the 10-day 2015 Delaware Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships. Immediately following the Finals, the celebrations start and during the evening will crown the men’s and women’s champions, present the Grand Master Honor Roll, acknowledge patrons and sponsors, and honor attending Hall of Fame members.

In 2015, US Squash will launch an industry conference that brings together squash & business leaders from across the nation who will attend a weekend conference.
