AnnouncementsFROM THE DESK OF FR. MARC SHERLOCKFather Frank Massarella remembered the parish in his Will. Recently, we received a check from his estate in the amount of $113,007.69. After consulting our Parish Finance Council on September 3 and our Parish Pastoral Council on September 10 and receiving positive recommendations from both groups, I decided to do the following: build a Patio with gas grill, pergola and glass doors off our Banquet Hall for an estimated cost of $59,140.00; remove 35 infected ash trees and replace them with at least 2 different kinds of trees for an estimated cost of $15,575.00; repair asphalt on our parking lots where needed and seal and stripe all 3 of our lots for an estimated cost of $20,500.00. We also received our first installment from the Archdiocesan Capital Campaign in the amount of $28,410.47.

Special Mission Appeal: On September 5th and 6th, St. John welcomed Father Domingo Avellaneda Cabanillas from Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Pumpenai, Lithuania. Father Domingo spoke on behalf of the Institute of the Incarnate Word during our Special Mission Appeal Weekend Masses. Many thanks to those of you who generously donated $2,772.80. Funds collected during the weekend Masses will be sent to the central offices of the Institute of the Incarnate Word for distribution to their mission locations most in need. In addition, donations can be made directly (electronic only) to Father Domingo’s Mission in Lithuania. The banking information necessary to donate electronically is as follows: Bank Account LT54 7300 0100 9385 7351 “Swedbank,” AB, Konstitucijos pr. 20A, LT-03502 Vilnius, Lithuania; Bank Code: 73000, SWIFT code: HABALT22. Father Domingo’s email address is [email protected], should you wish to contact him.

Grateful Thanks to the members of the “Friday Night Duffer’s Golf League” for their $217.00, end-of-the-year donation to the St. Vincent Casserole Ministry! This donation is sincerely appreciated! It will help defray the

cost of the casserole ingredients used to prepare casseroles that are delivered monthly to the St. Vincent Shelters in Dayton. These casseroles help feed the homeless and hungry who are able to come to the shelters for a meal. If you are interested in participating in this ministry, here at St. John, please give Kathy McGrath a call at 667-4932 for information on how you can become involved. Donations to this ministry should be marked “St. Vincent Casseroles” and can be mailed to the Parish Office at 753 S. Hyatt Street, Tipp City, Ohio 45371-1255, dropped off to the Parish office or placed in the Sunday collection basket.

The Lay Pastoral Ministry Program: The LPMP is sponsored by the Archdiocese and prepares lay men and women to serve families and communities more effectively as everyday evangelists, staff members and volunteers. Classes in Scripture, Doctrine, Social Media, Church History and Theology along with spiritual and ministerial formation feed your mind and spirit while preparing you for the challenges of contemporary discipleship. Classes fulfill requirements for application to the Permanent Diaconate and count toward catechist certification. Dayton area classes meet at the Pilarczyk Center on Saturday morning and afternoon. We are currently interviewing for Spring Semester, which begins in early January. Call Deacon Hal Belcher at 419-305-5486 for information or to schedule a personal interview.

SpiritualOur thoughts and prayers remain with those serving our country at this time; Travis Meeks (Air Force), Nathan McKitrick (Marines), Tabitha McKitrick (Navy), David Nartker (Navy),

Bryan Bernhold (Air Force) and Brad Staddon (Army) and with their loved ones at home. We pray for a safe homecoming and that the world may one day be at peace. Please let the office (937-667-3419) know if you would like your loved one(s) listed by name here. We would be happy to pray for them by name.

“It pleased God to make it easy for us to be saved. God didn’t attach salvation to knowledge or intelligence or wealth, nor to long experience or rare gifts that are not given to all. God attached it to something within the reach of everyone. Jesus attaches salvation to humility to the act of making yourself little. That is all it takes to win heaven.” – Blessed Charles de Foucauld There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us?” (Mark 9:39-40) We have a natural tendency to think in terms of us and them. We’re right, of course, and they – well, they’re wrong, at least to one degree or another. We’re better than they are. But in the Gospel passage, Jesus isn’t thinking in terms of us and them. As long as they are not overtly and obviously against Him, as far as Jesus was concerned, they were with Him. Notice, however, that Jesus uses the first person plural: us. Jesus talks about Himself here in terms of His relationship with His disciples. For Jesus there was no me and them. He talks about Himself in the context of His community. We might well do the same. To coin a phrase: we’re all in this together. Lord Jesus, help me to think of myself more as a member of your body, the Church. (Excerpts from “Living With Christ,” September 2015)

Help CenterST. VINCENT HOTEL: Parishioners are reminded the hotel is in constant need of casseroles to serve the homeless guests. Completed casseroles can be placed in the Parish freezer and will be periodically delivered to the hotel by Parish volunteers. For further information, contact Mike Begley at 667-2882 or the Parish Office at 667-3419. The next opportunity to serve the evening meal to the guests at St. Vincent Hotel will be Sunday, September 27th. Please meet in the north parking lot of the church for at 5:00 p.m. departure if you would like to volunteer.

BAKERS NEEDED: We are looking forward to another year of Coffee with Christ. The first session will be on September 27th and will be on the Catholic View on Environmental Stewardship with Sr. Leanne Jablonski. To continue to make these programs a success, we need people who

are willing to provide baked goods for these sessions. Items such as a coffee cake, muffins, a banana bread, cookies, brownies, or any other yummy items that you are willing to make and share. Plan to make enough to share with a couple dozen people. If you can help with this, please contact Chuck Wright at 667-3419, ext. 203 or [email protected] to sign up for a session. THANK YOU!
