The rapid economical progression that was primed by oil exports and the forward-looking vision of the government have advanced the country to a world-class technological leader. Companies, who have recognized the potential of an investment in the UAE at an early stage, have managed to break into the market of their respective field and have gained competitive advantage.

In recent years Robot Technology has attracted attention amongst the government, public, corporate and educational sectors: various Universities are now offering programs and even PhDs in this field; Industrial Service providers are introducing RT solutions to their customers; and service robots are breaking the boundaries and allowing the regular consumer to discover the world of robotics.

Industrial Robotics and AutomationWith a growing population and increasing consumer demand the UAE’s manufacturing industries are transforming. Supported by a highly improved infrastructure and the availability of resources, the trend is moving towards an improvement of operational performance and providing production facilities locally, rather than depending on foreign suppliers. With a need for

improved productivity, companies have expanded rapidly to stay in line with the fast change in technology.

A rising RT market is enabling Industrial Service providers to develop com-plete solutions and a wide range of applications and processes in order to meet the engineering needs of their customers from the Oil & Gas, Utilities, and Manufacturing industries.

“Research and Markets” has released a report forecasting the Automation market in the Middle East to grow at a CAGR of 6.84 percent over the period 2012-2016. Based on their report companies like ABB Ltd., Honeywell International Inc., Invensys plc, and Yokogawa Electric Corp. are amongst those dominating this space. Others present in the region include Applied Material Inc., Apriso Corp., Aspen Technologies Inc., Emerson Electric Co., General Electric Co., IBM Corp., Oracle Corp., PSI AG, Rockwell Automation Inc., SAP AG, Schneider Electric Co., Siemens AG, and Werum Software & Systems AG.

Most importantly, Robotics is predicted to expand with a much higher growth, entering and creating markets far beyond traditional automation.

As one of the most globalized economies the UAE has been a role model to many countries in the MENA region, encouraging open mindedness and a flexible approach in exploring innovation and opportunities for growth.
