What Are the Current Requirements?

In general, in addition to licensure and enrollment prerequisites, the MOC programrequires:

‐ For Diplomateswith time remaining on their 10‐year certificates, different deadlines may apply.

‐ For Hospitalists, additional MOC requirements apply.

‐ For Interventional Cardiologists, additional MOC requirements apply.

‐ For Dual‐Boarded Diplomates, some MOC requirements may be waived.

‐ For those newly certified in Internal Medicine, you are eligible for an MOC fee credit.

‐ For fellows in an accredited training program, you may be eligible for an MOC fee credit.

ABIM Medical Knowledge Assessment Recognition Program Requirements

Activities must be:• Directly or jointly provided by provider in good standing in the ACCME system

• Certified for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM in one of the following activity types: 1) Live activities – includes Courses, Internet Live Courses, Regularly Scheduled Series, Committee Learning; 2) Enduring materials; 3) Journal Based CME; 4) Internet Enduring Materials; 5) Internet Searching & Learning; and 6) Test Item Writing

• Relevant to physicians certified by ABIM

• Meets ABIM format-specific criteria Enduring materials, journal-based & live activities = peer-reviewed by two reviewers Test item writing = committee process with at least three members Live activities include comprehensive evaluation to measure learner change with

feedback

Optional Patient Safety RequirementsActivities must address at least one of the following:• Foundational knowledge (must include all of the

following): Epidemiology of error Fundamentals of patient safety improvement Culture of safety

• Prevention of an adverse event, for example: Medication safety Prevention of healthcare acquired infections Falls prevention Teamwork and care coordination

MOC Points• MOC points should be equivalent to the

maximum allowable AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM

(Might be less if part of a larger CME activity.)• Diplomates will earn MOC points

Providers register CME activities for Medical Knowledge MOC points in PARS

PI CME providers can use PARS to register activities for Practice Assessment MOC points.

Providers can use PARS to register other quality improvement activities that meet ABIM’s Approved Quality Improvement Program guidelines for Practice Assessment MOC points.

CME providers can use PARS to register CME activities for both Practice Assessment and Medical Knowledge MOC points.
