Responsible Respectful Resilient

Matariki Even though our whanau celebration was

rained out we still celebrated the season of

Matariki with our tamariki.

Thank you very much to Bonnie Evans who

came and did some Matariki shortbread stars!

A delicious way to celebrate Matariki.

The junior school is decorated with a range of

different artworks.

Tena Koutou ngā whanau me ngā tamariki o Parerihirau,

Greetings to the families and children of Bledisloe School;

The end of the term has come up again very quickly and it is hard to believe that half the school year has

gone. On Monday afternoon the staff got together to celebrate the successes we have had with teaching

and learning over the last two terms. It was a very positive and rewarding meeting with teachers talking

about a new literacy teaching strategy the senior school are trialling, our junior school phonics programme

and the difference it is making to our 6 Year Net results and the success of the middle school inquiry unit on

Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. Part of my job, alongside the Board of Trustees is to provide the conditions

and resources to allow these programmes to occur. I was asked by a staff member what was my highlight

for the first half of our year. I responded that it was the privilege of working with such a professional and

motivated staff who worked tirelessly to raise the achievement of all students and create confident,

connected, lifelong learners. This is certainly true, but this week I have also had several other highlights worth

mentioning; the amazing celebration of learning that the middle school shared with their families on

Tuesday, the performances and sharing of learning from the senior school on Ancient Civilizations and the

confidence that our students showed at Assembly on Thursday using Te Reo Maori to share their own

pepiha and the school pepiha followed by a powerful and moving haka.

I wish all families a relaxing break away from the routines of school and hope that the rain only stays long

enough to help our farmers!

Kind Regards, Carol

On Tuesday we did a Trash Fash show. On my costume I

had drawn a necklace , a butterfly and a bif reduce,

re-use, recycle symbol. The show was very thrilling. When I

was wearing my costume I felt really happy although it

was really uncomfortable. Darian Stevens

My costume was made from

newspaper, cardboard and

plastic bags. Mum and I made

this project. I rate 5/5 for this! I

loved it! Ruby Cotter

My favourite costume

was Marka’s, he was

Steve. It was really fun.

The Juniors watched us

at 9.30 and the parents

watched us at 11.30.

Some people made

swords, shields, hats,

masks and guns from

rubbish. Khaliel Coles

It’s wonderful to read so many book

reviews that arrive on my computer

each day. Many children are

completing their reviews during

class time and an ever increasing

number are choosing to log onto

our new library computer system at

home to write their book reviews.

When a review has been submitted

a QR code is generated and

attached to a leaf on our reading

tree. Other children can choose to

scan the QR code to read a review

or log onto the library system to

read them.

National Standards Interim Reporting

The interim reports for Year 4-6 students are being sent

home at the moment. Please remember that you are

very welcome to contact your child’s teacher at any

time to make a time to go through this information. It is

easier for teachers if you contact them to make a

time for these conversations as this means we can be

prepared and put aside the time to focus on your

child and you. We will be sending home our touching

base information in the middle of next term so you

can see how your child is going with reaching their

learning goals. Teachers can be contacted by calling

in to classrooms, ringing the office or emailing on;

initial letter, last [email protected]

(eg. [email protected])

Te Wiki Te Reo Maori

It was wonderful to hear and see our students celebrating

Maori language week both at our assembly and in their

classrooms this week. Ask your son or daughter if they can

recite their pepiha to you. Maybe they could help you to write

yours!
