The President’s Corner
Thanks to all the members who were able to make it out to the club’s annual picnic! We could not have asked for better weather and I think a good time was had by all who attended. We have another annual event
coming up shortly, the sawmill demonstration hosted by Ralph Winch is scheduled for Saturday, August 6th from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. If you have never attended Ralph’s demonstration, I highly recommend you try to make it. Ralph always does a great job of showing how the lumber we all use gets from tree to finished board. I wish to thank Ralph in advance for his willingness to share his knowledge and skill.

July Meeting Review: x In lieu of the regular monthly club meeting, the
July meeting was the annual club picnic which was held again this year at Rochester Community Park.
x Between members, significant others and guests we had 24 attendees.
x The club provided the fried chicken, drinks and table supplies. Members brought many varied and delightful dishes to share.
x Given the pleasant weather, it was a perfect day for a picnic and it appeared that all present had a wonderful time.
x Bob Fox kindly said a blessing prior to the beginning of the meal.
x After the meal, Clay Crocker called the meeting to order to conduct a small amount of business.

Meeting, Cont. from p1
Special Notes: Show and Tell: Members are encouraged to bring in items or projects to share at our meetings during the Show and Tell session. Show us what you’ve been working on lately!
Share What You’ve Learned: If you’ve read an inter-esting article or some other woodworking related source, bring the topic to one of our meetings to share. Your participation is needed.
Bring a Friend or Absent Member: And don’t forget to call members you haven’t seen at our meetings lately to ask if they need a ride to our next meeting. You are also encouraged to bring a friend who might be interested in the presentation topic.
Knotty Bits…. Q: Why did the project need a shave before being slathered with water-based finish?
A: Because it hadn’t been de-whiskered.
WANTED Members, I plan to do a presentation on "Electrolysis to restore old rusty tools” at the September meet-ing. I have my presentation ready but I am looking for a couple items to restore using this technique. If you have an old rusty tool that you would like to re-store please bring it to the August meeting. I plan to select two or three of the items brought to this meet-ing to be restored. So, bring in your rustiest tool and we will see what can be done with it!
Mike Mitchell
Norm’s Challenge…. A number of tool names are associated not with the actual name of the tool, but with the original Brand Name. Here are some examples:
Vise Grip.....adjustable locking pliers
Skil Saw.....portable electric saw
Crescent Wrench.....adjustable wrench
Can you name any others? If so, mention it to Norm at the August meeting and earn a free ticket for the 50-50 drawing.
ANNOUNCMENT! Build It - Webelos Adventure
