Welcome to Kindergarten in PSDKindergarten is an important and exciting first step on the educational journey of your child. By motivating all students to learn, challenging them to excel, and supporting them along the way, we ensure they graduate prepared to succeed in this changing world. Students in Poudre School District are supported in many ways including the instructional framework, collaborative teachers and staff, positive classroom culture, and a safe and welcoming learning environment. Together, we foster the whole child. Together, we build on each other’s strengths in a community of learners. Together, we are committed to student success. Together, we are PSD!
Tuition:PSD kindergarten programs are tuition-based. Select schools offer full day, tuition-free kindergarten programs (see chart on next page). There are full and partial scholarship opportunities available and vary by school. Contact your school for full details and to apply.
Tuition Details:
• Half-day Programs: Free
• Full-day Programs: : Kindergarten tuition rates are evaluated annually and announced in the spring. Once rates for the 16-17 school year are determined, registered families will receive notification.– A deposit of $50 is due at the time of registration in February with
the remaining balance to be paid out in ten monthly installments beginning August 31, 2016. A form will be available to sign up for automatic withdrawal payments at the time of registration. If the automatic withdrawal form is not filled out at registration, families paying for full-day programs will receive more details regarding payment options in early August from the PSD Finance Department.
Transportation:Transportation eligibility for students is based upon the distance between their home and their neighborhood school. Elementary school students are eligible for transportation if they live more than one mile from the neighborhood school in their attendance area. Contact the Transportation Department at 490-3155 with questions. • One-way transportation is provided for half-day kindergarten.• Round trip transportation is provided for full-day programs.• Transportation is not provided for school choice students.
School Lunches:All meals offered in PSD are nutritious, tasty, and balanced, exceeding all federal and USDA nutritional guidelines. Students may be eligible for free or reduced lunches if they receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or if the household income is within the eligibility limits set by the federal government. Contact the Child Nutrition Department at 490-3557 for more information.
Visit SchoolsPSD has 36 elementary schools, including 28 neighborhood schools, four option schools, and four charter schools. Nearly 70% of PSD families choose to send their children to their neighborhood school, the school located within the attendance area in which they live. In addition to rigorous standards-based curriculum, neighborhood schools offer various instructional and enrichment programs designed to fit individual student needs.
Starting in January, PSD elementary schools will host open house nights and orientation meetings for parents of upcoming kindergartners. Plan to attend schools’ open houses to learn more about the options in PSD. See the listing of visitation and open house dates included in this brochure to plan your visit.
Register Your StudentKindergarten registration is February 11, 2016. Even if you opt to send your child to a school outside your local neighborhood through school choice, you must still register your child at your neighborhood school on February 11, 2016.
