Welcome to Kindergarten in PSD Kindergarten is an important and exciting first step on the educational journey of your child. By motivating all students to learn, challenging them to excel, and supporting them along the way, we ensure they graduate prepared to succeed in this changing world. Tuition: PSD kindergarten programs are tuition-based. Select schools offer full day, tuition-free kindergarten programs (see chart on next page). There are full and partial scholarship opportunities available and vary by school. Contact your school for full details and to apply. Tuition Details: • Half-day Programs: Free • Full-day Programs: : Kindergarten tuition rates are evaluated annually and announced in the spring. Once rates for the 16-17 school year are determined, registered families will receive notification. A deposit of $50 is due at the time of registration in February with the remaining balance to be paid out in ten monthly installments beginning August 31, 2016. A form will be available to sign up for automatic withdrawal payments at the time of registration. If the automatic withdrawal form is not filled out at registration, families paying for full-day programs will receive more details regarding payment options in early August from the PSD Finance Department. Transportation: Transportation eligibility for students is based upon the distance between their home and their neighborhood school. Elementary school students are eligible for transportation if they live more than one mile from the neighborhood school in their attendance area. Contact the Transportation Department at 490-3155 with questions. • One-way transportation is provided for half-day kindergarten. • Round trip transportation is provided for full-day programs. • Transportation is not provided for school choice students. Students may be eligible for free or reduced lunches if they receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or if the household income is within the eligibility limits set by the federal government. Instructional program options include Core Knowledge, International Baccalaureate, Expeditionary Learning and Bilingual/Dual Immersion. Some schools also feature programs such as Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM), Gifted & Talented, Arts & Technology, and Leader in Me. Utilize these times to meet teachers and principals, ask questions, tour the building and learn about the curriculum, enrichment and other programming available for your student.

RegisterYour child must be five years old on or before September 15, 2016 to register for kindergarten for the Fall 2016 school year. Kindergarten registration is February 11, 2016 at all neighborhood schools. To register your student, bring the following items to your neighborhood school:

• Student Enrollment Form found on the PSD website (copies also available at the school sites)

• Child’s birth certificate (original or certified copy)

• Emergency contact information

• Immunization records or signed State of Colorado Exemption Certificate

• Proof of residency (example: ID or utility bill)

• Tuition Check ($50 to register if enrolling in full day kindergarten)

Registration hours may vary by school, so check online or call the school directly for a schedule.

School Choice OptionsTo attend a school other than your neighborhood school you will need to complete the online School Choice Application on the PSD website. Deadline for first consideration for elementary schools is February 12, 2016, 12:00 p.m. MST. Once the application period closes, applications will be processed and you will be notified via phone or email of your status. This process can take up to two weeks once the deadline has closed.

• If you are applying to send your child to another school through school choice, you should still register at your neighborhood school on February 11. This ensures your student is registered and accounted for should your school choice option not be available.

• Charter schools DO NOT follow the PSD school choice procedures. Contact the charter school directly for application procedures.
