The year 2016 may be regarded as the preparation period for the development of UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ. Following the end of the business streamlining process, we entered a new stage focusing on leadership, strengthening of positions, improvement of operational efficiency, financial stability and growth.

In implementing its long-terms strategy, in 2016 UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ made significant steps in consolidating its main companies and business lines, including fertilisers and agricultural services, cargo handling and logistics and energy. Last year, we implemented investments for over EUR 65.5 million, the major part of which was dedicated to the ongoing and new AB Achema investment projects, including modernisation of units A-1 and A-2 and the extension of the formalin production and storage facility.

UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ kick-started the fertilisers and agricultural services sector by initiating the acquisition of Litagra, one of the strongest companies in the retail and elevator services business. Following the transaction and integration of Litagra in the group of companies controlled by UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ, Litagra operations will support UAB Agrochema, Group’s company engaged in similar business, extend its activities and complete the logistics chain from grain elevator to the port of Klaipėda. As part of preparation for further development, Agrochema also expanded its network of liquid fertiliser reservoirs and installed a small-package fertiliser production and pre-packaging line. At the end of 2016, activities of AB Achema Branch Gaschema were separated and transferred to the newly established company Gaschema LT.

Growth was also observed in the area of cargo handling and logistics, where important investment projects were implemented. UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ acquired UAB Laivyno technikos priežiūros bazė and increased its shareholding in UAB Centrinis Klaipėdos terminalas up to 100%. A considerable amount of investment was channelled to renewable energy: UAB Renerga-1 built a 7.5 MW wind farm in Anykščiai District.

We must admit that the year was difficult, and a number of undertakings, unfortunately, failed to achieve their goals. A poor year for the entire Group was due to a significant drop in the world prices for fertilisers, which hit rock bottom as in 2004. Regrettably, a similar trend of prices is forecasted for this year. Still, it is encouraging that we succeeded in reaching a favourable agreement on diversified supply of raw gas from Statoil and Gazprom, though the burden of the gas infrastructure on Achema is still unbearably excessive. Notwithstanding a complicated competitive environment, some main companies of the Group – Agrochema companies, KLASCO, Gaschema representations in Sweden and Finland and other companies – achieved a good outcome.

The year 2017 remains geopolitically difficult, competition gets stronger, markets and companies are globalising. However, UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ continues its development plans and is looking for investment possibilities in both Lithuania and Central and Western Europe. This year we are going to open a new liquid fertilisers terminal in Belgium, consider possibilities for further extension of our distributor network, also invest in the development and modernisation of AB Achema. Currently, the key goals of the Group are to enhance the competitiveness in all business areas by implementing steady business development, increasing synergies among companies and, definitely, ensuring the best prices of raw materials.

The year 2016 posed serious challenges to UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ and required responsible solutions to ensure consistency in the achievement of its goals. Our major direction was the implementation of the long-term strategy of UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ, strengthening of all companies and preparation for further development.

Last year, we focused on the formation of management teams of our companies. Changes that affected a number of the Group’s companies at the management level helped to consolidate the corporate management, improve companies’ effectiveness and competitiveness and ensure sustainable growth. I am delighted that mobilisation among the staff of the Group’s companies secured the success of those changes.

The stable situation allowed UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ to take advantage of the opportunities for more sizeable investments in its companies and the acquisition of new businesses. First, we considered the companies that create synergy with other activities of UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ with regard to which we have long-standing experience. For a few years to come, we envisaged a nine-digit investment programme that will enable the Group’s companies to maintain leadership not only in Lithuania, but also in international markets.

Today the world faces globalisation challenges, the advantages and difficulties of which also materially affect industry. With regard to industry, environmental requirements are being continuously, and at times selectively, tightened and public regulation is regularly modified. In fertilisers business we compete with the world’s major manufacturers from Europe, the United States, China and Africa, the countries that themselves extract the basic raw material – natural gas – and are able to manufacture a product cheaply, but some manufacturers are not subject to environmental requirements. Notwithstanding the increasing competition, thanks to recent modernisation of our companies we still retain our positions and keep looking for development possibilities.

In the long-term strategy of UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ we plan to focus on business in the main areas where we have the greatest expertise and experience. We would prefer to be more active and invest more in the field of energy, however, given the practice of the state to modify the tax and investment environment from time to time, forces us to set our sights on more business-friendly countries. We continue to explore business possibilities in Western Europe, which guarantees stability of activities and adequate investment protection. For our all members in the Group family, also the smaller ones, we set the goals of growing and seeking leadership in their respective domains.

The team of the Group’s companies is going stronger, we keep expanding experience, while harsh economic and political environment make us steel ourselves and encourage pursuing our goals more assertively. Professional specialists of the companies, good overall preparation, expertise and team spirit give us the reason to believe that the year 2017 for UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ will be the year of success and growth.

The long-term strategy of UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ envisages further development through the acquisition of new companies, implementation of new production and operational projects and entry into new markets.

In 2016, UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ implemented investments for EUR 65.5 million, the major part of which was dedicated to the ongoing and new AB Achema investment projects, including modernisation of units A-1 and A-2, extension of the formalin production and storage facility and other assets renewals. Klaipėda Stevedoring Company (KLASCO) installed an unloading system in the grain terminal, built warehouses in the Vitė District, also invested in the purchase of two new portal cranes and assets renewals. A considerable amount of investment was also used for wind farm development projects carried out by UAB Renerga and UAB Renerga-1. UAB Agrochema, an agricultural business, expanded its liquid fertilisers reservoir network and implemented a small-package fertiliser production and pre-packaging line, while rail carrier UAB Transachema purchased 50 KAS rail tankers and invested in the renewal of its fleet.

• Modernisation of both ammonia production units that required the investment of EUR 22 million. New equipment allowed for increasing the productivity of ammonia unit No 1 from 1,580 to 1,700 tons per day. Modernisation of the ammonia units led to the reduction of natural gas consumption in ammonia production. Also, equipment was changed in urea unit No 4.

• In 2016, a new line for urea treatment with NBPT inhibitor and pre-packaging with the hourly output capacity of 80 tons was installed. With the help of this project, the production of a new product – slow-release urea with the NBPT additive “LITFERT StabillioN” – was launched at the end of the year.

PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED AND INVESTMENTS MADE IN 2016:

• The company received an award for its clearly understandable and measurable effective environmental policy, efficient use of natural resources, modernisation of production machinery by introducing a new exhaust gas cleaning technology and other improvements. In the Competition of the Best Performing Environmental Services (environmental Specialists) of Domestic Companies, which was sponsored by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania, the Laboratory Control Centre of AB Achema was awarded as the best environmental service of the company.

• The Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists awarded recognised AB Achema as the Exporter of the Year in the category of the major enterprises.

• In the National Responsible Business Awards (NAVA), which is annually arranged by the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania, AB Achema received the most honourable award of the Socially Responsible Company of the Year.

• In the National Responsible Business Awards (NAVA) AB Achema won the title of the Most Communal Company of the Year and received the certificates of the Workplace of the Year and the Environmental Company of the Year.

AB Achema is the largest manufacturer of nitrogen fertilisers in the Baltic States and the second largest Lithuanian exporter. The company mainly engages in the manufacturing and sale of fertilisers (urea, ammonium nitrate, KAS – urea ammonium nitrate and water solution, KAN – calcium ammonium nitrate) other chemicals for industry. The main export destinations of AB Achema include France, Great Britain, Germany, Central Europe and Scandinavia. As much as 25% of products remain in Lithuania.

The company has branches for instrumentation Sistematika and Health Centre Achemos poliklinika.

AB Achema branch Sistematika, which employs over 150 specialists, engages in the maintenance, repair and installation of automated control systems and metering devices mostly in the technological installations of AB Achema and Klaipėda Stevedoring Company (KLASCO), also performs works for other companies under contracts for work.

Programmers of the branch have extensive experience in programming of the “Schneider electric” and “Siemens” operating system controls and regularly update their skills by attending training provided by these suppliers.

A solid manufacturing base consisting of repair shops and mechanical workshops enables Sistematika to perform efficient repairs and checks of the instrumentation devices, to manufacture a variety of customised products as part of the repair and installation works. In 2016, Sistematika carried out works and provided services for EUR 3.8 million.

Health Centre Achemos poliklinika is a licensed primary outpatient health care (family medicine, nursing care, odontology, laboratory diagnostics) and secondary outpatient health care (occupational medicine, endocrinology, cardiology, urology, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, neurology, endoscopy, physical medicine and rehabilitology, radiology and ultrasound) institution.

Equipped with the state-of-the-art medical equipment, the Health Centre receives over 2,800 patients. In 2016,

the recorded number of visits reached over 26,000. The Health Centre has in place the quality management system LST EN ISO 9001:2008, which ensures the provision of qualified, high-quality and timely outpatient health care services at level I and II.

UAB Gaschema LT is the leader in Lithuania, the Baltic States and Scandinavian countries in terms of the production and development of technical, welding, food grade, special and liquefied gases, as well as AZO Products and the polyvinyl acetate dispersion (multipurpose glue Lipalas) product categories. Its products are exported to Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Poland, Russia, Finland and Sweden. The branch of AB Achema until 31 December 2016, on 1 January 2017 Gaschema was transformed into UAB Gaschema LT for the purpose of separating its operations from the main business of the company.

SARL Litfert, established in France, imports dry and liquid fertilisers manufactured by AB Achema and other producers in France, Benelux and Spain. The company based in Plungė collects, dries, stores and loads grain and oilseed rape. Storage facilities of the company have the capacity of 70,000 tons of grain or cereal products. The company runs its own railway branch and diesel locomotives, which give a great advantage in grain export by vessels, as the distance between the company and the port is 60 km.

Company Fertigent is a liquid fertiliser (UAN) terminal in Ghent (Belgium). The terminal has modern equipment that meets the highest service and safety standards.

KLASCO is one of the largest stevedoring companies in the Eastern Baltic region and the largest stevedoring company in the port of Klaipėda, operating five specialized cargo-handling terminals, modern loading machinery and other technology. The company is using a well-developed port, rail and road infrastructure and has maximum quay depths that enable it to accept and handle vessels with draughts up to 13.8 m (Panamax, Post-Panamax). KLASCO also provides a wide range of additional logistics and other cargo related and value-added services, as well as towage services with three modern ASD-type tugboats.

• The Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists granted KLASCO the award of a Successful Company 2016 for stability of production activities, contribution to the port’s economic results and the ability to compete at the international market.

• KLASCO invested over EUR 20 million in the construction of storage facilities in the Vitė District and installation of vehicle unloading system in the grain terminal, in order to maintain high production standards and business reputation.

• The company acquired two modern port cranes that increased the vessel loading efficiency and reduced vessel loading periods and production noise at the port.

• Krovinių terminalas marked its 20th anniversary of business;

• The company successfully carried out loading operations through the new pentane load line, which helped to attract other cargoes transported in an integrated manner. This gives the company a better competitive advantage, as an equivalent pentane load line in the Baltics is available only in Estonia.



Company Krovinių terminalas operates at the port of Klaipėda and manages one of the newest and modern oil and petrochemicals products’ handling terminals in Baltic region. The terminal provides integrated oil and petrochemical products’ handling and storage services, promptly responds to the requirements of its business partners and also public needs by ensuring ecologically clean environment of Klaipėda City and the Curonian Lagoon. Technological capabilities of the terminal and professional solutions of its employees allow to tranship via the terminal’s shore tanks both standard (petrol and diesel) and specific (alkylate, reformate, isomerisate, pentane, etc.) petroleum products.

UAB Transachema specialises in rail freight. The company holds a licence of a railway undertaking (carrier), a certificate for railway construction and maintenance, a certificate of a technical rolling stock supervisor and a safety certificate, also authorisations in the field of railway traffic safety. Transachema is a member of the European Rail Freight Association (ERFA) and the Lithuanian Private Railway Undertakings Association (LPRUA).

The Central Klaipėda terminal remains one of the most modern terminals on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea capable of accommodating three vessels at the same time. The main purpose of the terminal is to handle ro-ro, ro-pax, con-ro, cruise ships and passenger vessels. The terminal is equipped with modern adjustable ramps which are used to suit new types of ro-ro vessels and can withstand loads required for the heavy machinery handling procedures. The advantage of terminal’s location allows quick and smooth connection to the main motorway A1.

Klaipėdos laivų remontas was awarded a contract in the tender for dock repairs of the Lithuanian Navy ships “Aukštaitis”, “Žemaitis”, “Jotvingis” and boat “H21” and successfully completed contracted works.




The group of radio stations owns some of the most popular Lithuanian radio stations Radiocentras, Zip FM, Rusradio LT, Relax FM and Classic Rock FM, which every week reach on average 34% of the Lithuanian listeners, i.e. approximately 793,000 people. The Radiocentras Group is the leader in Vilnius City and Vilnius County. During a week, it reaches 44% of the population of Vilnius and Vilnius County, i.e. 284,000 people.

All five radio stations are broadcasting not only via radio at homes or in cars, but they are also freely accessible elsewhere by phone, online or on TV. To meet their listeners’ needs, the radio stations offered on their websites recordings of broadcastings, integrated video and photoblogs, enabled their audience to comment on the content and share it on Facebook and other social networks.

• In 2016, radio station Radiocentras celebrated its 25th anniversary, which was marked by M.A.M.A. music awards arranged in Lithuania’s largest Žalgiris Arena. Last year, Radiocentras introduced to the market an updated radio programme and a team of presenters, became a partner of the National Olympic Committee of Lithuania, actively cooperated in the promotion of the most important music, cinema, sports and healthy lifestyles events and other projects in Lithuania.

• Zip FM strengthened its positions by realising non-standard advertising and self-promoting projects, made some changes in the radio programme and sponsored a number of music, youth entrepreneurship and choice of study events. In 2016, ZIP FM successfully cooperated with non-governmental youth organisations and won the Partner of Youth Organisations of the Year Award.

• Rusradio LT paid special attention to the increase of its audience and commenced broadcasting in three Lithuanian regions: Dieveniškės (Šalčininkai), Varėna and Visaginas. The radio station actively contributed to sports and cultural projects dedicated to minorities and promoted by the entire group of radio stations.

• Relax FM changed its format and became a sponsor of concerts of the Lithuanian music performers and other events.

• In 2016, Classic Rock FM introduced some changes to its programme, adapted previous programmes and started broadcasting news blocks prepared by the news service of Radiocentras. The radio station actively cooperated in promoting the most important rock music events in Lithuania.

The companies of UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ continued to invest in projects relating to nature conservation and sought to stay at the core of local communities by taking an active part in social activities and supporting cultural and sports events.

Working conditions A great number of the companies of UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ have concluded and comply with collective agreements, there is a constructive dialogue between employers and employees.

All employees at AB Achema are covered by voluntary health insurance. The company guarantees its employees supplementary payments and bonuses on the occasion of their anniversary, allowances in the case of death of their family, compensations for academic leave and supports other social activities. At the only Lithuanian employer-owned health centre Achemos poliklinika employees have access to a free medical examination and dental care services.

Ensuring a clean environmentAll companies of UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ continuously invest in a clean and environment-friendly environment.

Last year, AB Achema allocated over EUR 440,000 for environmental projects. Following the updating of ammonia equipment at the company and the reduction of natural gas consumption in ammonia production, the CO2 emission to the environment decreased by 58,000 tons. The company paid special attention to the reduction in energy use and modernisation of equipment.

At the port of Klaipėda KLASCO installed storm water runoff networks, an oil trap and sand trap.

The value of the treatment equipment reaches EUR 27,000.

Support to local communitiesAB Achema is an active participant and supporter of community events. Last year, the company provided support of more than EUR 860,000 for over 30 social, youth employment, cultural and sports projects. Particular attention was paid to organisations dealing with socially sensitive society groups and the promotion of healthy lifestyles in Jonava District. All companies of UAB koncernas ACHEMOS GRUPĖ operating in Jonava District contribute to the active cultural and social life of the local community.

Last year, KLASCO supported the Klaipėda Jazz Festival and the Sea Festival events and provided financial assistance to our first para-rowing athlete for him to participate at Rio 2016 Paralympics.

A number of cultural and sports events in Klaipėda are sponsored by AB Klaipėdos laivų remontas and UAB Krovinių terminalas.

UAB Agrochema also contributes to diverse events and initiatives and pays special attention to regional agricultural festivals.

UAB Renerga has been, for a number of years, organising informative camps and quizzes for pupils dedicated to ecology and environmental issues.

Dr Bronislovas Lubys Charity and Support Fund

Active since 2013, Dr Bronislovas Lubys Charity and Support Fund has already allocated nearly EUR 770,000 as support and charity. Out of EUR 170,000 allocated in 2016 the major part – EUR 50,000 – went to the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society, the largest concert organisation of the country that annually organises 300-400 concerts and promotes Lithuanian music culture. The support was granted for the 76th concert season of the Philharmonic Society in order to actively develop cooperation with Lithuanian city and district municipalities and reach more distant areas with a more limited access to cultural events.

As a tradition, last year, the Fund granted EUR 30,000 for organisation of the 11th International Mykolas Oginskis Festival, which already for the eleventh year promotes the cultural and philanthropic activities of Duke Mykolas Oginskis, joins authorities and persons protecting the heritage of the Oginskis family both in Lithuania and foreign countries, promotes the name and culture of Lithuania and maintains a high artistic level.

In 2016, the Fund provided EUR 20,000 of support for the 97th season of the National Kaunas Drama Theatre enabling it to achieve its creative objectives.

Also, the Fund provided support to libraries, public bodies, cultural and other organisations that attracted less attention from the state and just before Christmas granted more than EUR 22,000 to several hundred socially deprived families in Jonava.
