2016 ANNUAL FINANCE REPORT Dear St. Joseph Parishioner: I am pleased to provide you with the 2016 annual parish financial report as part of this bulletin insert. It is also located on the parish website. This report covers the fiscal year from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016. The report includes macro line item details as well as easy to read pie charts summarizing the sources of income and expenses within the parish. Highlights of the annual report are as follows: • The Parish and St. Joseph School reported combined net income of $238,554 based upon $4,650,468 of revenue and $4,411,914 of expense and debt payments. • Weekly offertory is up $15,496, or 3.3%, over the prior fiscal year (FY15), in addition to an increase in Christmas donations of $52,160, or 29.8%. • Major bequests received totaled $279,914. Of this, a one-time donation of $200,000 was desig- nated as follows: – $100,000 earmarked for St. Joseph School; $50,000 toward academics in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and $50,000 in general outlay; – $50,000 for Youth Ministry/Project People; – $50,000 general expense for the Parish. • School tuition revenue increased $23,592, or 1.5%, primarily due to a tuition increase of 2.5%. Preliminary enrollment levels for FY17 have in- creased by 10 students in K-8, however, preschool enrollment has experienced a decline of 4 students from FY16 levels. • Financial support toward education ministries include $108,135 and $173,196 of operational expense for St. Joseph School and the Religious Education Program respectively, in addition to $588,962 loan payments for the school construc- tion and expansion. • Total operating expense increased $202,614 or 4.8%, compared to FY15 due in large part to an increase in capital expense related to completion of roof repairs totaling $87,410 and $72,407 toward school technology. The increase in capital expense was offset by decrease in administrative line items such as maintenance and mortgage interest expense. • Total number of Registered Households regularly using envelopes or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) for offertory increased slightly to 774 per week from FY15. This represents 29% of the total reg- istered households using envelopes or EFT which also increased slightly over FY15 levels. • Diocesan 7% Assessment paid in the amount of $132,310. • Loan balance as of June 30, 2016 was $4,588,566 a reduction of $349,554 from regular monthly and early principal payments. • Early principal payments over and above the regular monthly payments of $120,962 (Pink Debt Reduction envelopes, Changing Lives Together and Christ the Redeemer Parish support) were made on the loan as a direct reduction of the outstanding balance. • The loan of $6,299,588 was financed through the Archdiocese of Detroit July 1, 2012 with an original maturity date of July 1, 2032. The additional pay- ments noted above, have reduced the outstanding balance and accelerated the payoff date to April 2, 2028, four years earlier than planned. It is worth noting both the parish and school have done an excellent job managing a tight budget for the fiscal year. The positive financial results of $238,554 are largely due to a generous one-time gift of $200,000 earmarked for specific purposes previously mentioned. It is encouraging to see an increase in offertory revenue and households participating on a weekly basis. Your generosity is greatly appreciated! Hopefully you will notice we no longer have orange buckets interspersed in the sanctuary. No, we did not receive notification on “How NOT to Decorate a Sanctuary”, rather through the tenacious efforts of Continued on pg 2...
