InSeptember, three volunteers, Terry Kuhn, Katie LoRusso and Terry Bullock served as role models during the JA CareerExploration Fair.

Corporate Outreach:

The Registered Company Coordinators (RCC) program went through some transitions in 2016. Members fromMallinckrodt and Pfizer moved on, but new RCCs were appointed for Millipore Sigma, Maritz, Enterprise Holdings, andBJC. The RCCs met monthly to discuss strategies for boosting membership and involvement among their respectiveorganizations. They also shared best practices within their companies. As a direct result of the RCC members’ efforts, members from RCC companies participated in many chapter events.

The largest undertaking in 2016 was hosting the IPM Day by RCC company, Maritz in which the team organized and ledan extremely successful evening with record IPM day attendance. The Corporate Outreach team also led the IPM DayExecutive Reception which was the largest turnout in IPM Day history with approximately 25 executives in attendance. The event included remarks by Kim Clark, VP of Maritz Project Management IT Solutions, and was very well received bythe Corporate executives who attended. Plans for the 2017 IPM Day celebration are already in development by anotherRCC Company. In 2016, the RCC team became stronger agents between their organizations and the chapter. RCCs areworking to develop goals for 2017 with increased event participation and leadership, while improving their collection ofmetrics.

In 2016 the chapter continued to improve attendance and offered more events to suit the needs of the chaptermembership. Especially noteworthy was the International Project Management Day that drew many participantsand sponsors alike. We continued to offer professional development events and outstanding courses for projectmanagement certification exam preparation.

While we were able to provide all of these activities under our budget, we fell a little short of meeting our incomeprojections which led to a slight loss of $1,994,49. Even with the loss, we continued to make progress on meetingour reserve fund goals.

We expect the same success in 2017 as we continue to increase our membership and provide support to projectmanagement professionals in this area.

A Look Ahead – Plan for 2017

• Finish building out the volunteer group organization

• Increase volunteer involvement

• Throw a fantastic volunteer appreciation party in December

• Improve volunteer retention

• Create efficient avenues for feedback

A very special “Thank You!” to Vishwakant Tripathifor his dedication to PMIMSL, and leading us thesepast two years as President!

2016 was an amazing year, as nearly 150 different volunteersworked together to help run our chapter successfully. Asmembership grew to over 1,800 members, individualsstepped up to help lead over 40 events and classes!

This past year has seen the transition of Volunteer leadershipout of Membership, and into its own area. Thank you to RobKurtz for his continued guidance, and Ramaa Vissa for herefforts. I look forward to the enormous task of leading andlistening to our volunteers in 2017.

Our VRMS Officers Gary Lazaroff and Ade Brandt gave ourchapter tremendous support by posting and managingopportunities in VRMS (Volunteer Relationship ManagementSystem). Without their service, our volunteer organizationwould suffer.

PMIMSL’s volunteer impact is constantly spreading across St.Louis, as our Outreach Team continually builds relationshipswith non-profit organizations. From Administration (Admin)to Volunteers, and everything in between, our members tookopportunities to use their skills, and develop new ones in ournine areas, which include:

• Admin & Governance

• Finance

• Membership

• Marketing

• Programs

Thanks to the 2016 Board of Directors

I want to first thank our Chapter President, Vish Tripathi, for providing great leadership to the chapter board for the pasttwo years. I also want to thank all of the volunteer leaders who were part of the Board for 2016. Close to 150 membersvolunteered hours supporting chapter activities for our members and community. There were more than 45 eventshosted by our chapter and total attendance rose to historic 1400+ with additional 280 non-members and guests.

Chapter growth and Membership Engagement

The chapter membership grew from 1571 to 1815 which is phenomenal growth in the chapter history. This expansion ismore than just numbers, it represents the addition of members who bring in new skills, new experience and newexpectations. Our chapter has become a healthy mix of practitioners who represent a healthy pool of talent.Metropolitan area of St. Louis region will see contributions from these practitioners in future.

The chapter remains a focal point in the professional lives of its members because we offer many opportunities forprofessional development in the areas of technical skills, soft skills, leadership and business acumen. As the practitionersmarket in the region grows, we offer opportunities to learn new skills and new occasions to network.

The chapter is no longer just a dinner meeting chapter, we offer events at Breakfast, Lunch and after hours in the eveningas well as occasions where we host good speakers. We also offer Boot camps and prep classes for various PMIcertifications. PMP, being the most valued and required certification for professionals, continues to be our focal bootcamp. We have also added PMI-ACP and PMI-PBA boot camp classes.

In addition, our chapter offers other programs like Mentoring workshops, scholarship funds, networking opportunities foryounger and junior practitioners, Corporate and Academic outreach programs and community service opportunities.

Opportunities in the form of Challenges

All of these products and services offered to our members and community largely requires volunteers. Our Chapter is avolunteer non-profit organization and requires dedicated and committed volunteers and volunteer leaders. We had closeto 150 volunteers who gave many hours of real work to get all of the events planned and executed. Volunteers alsodevoted effort to deliver services like mentoring workshops, networking opportunities, outreach programs, etc.

As our chapter grows, there is even greater growth in the needs of our members. We are being asked to not only offermore events but a variety of events as well. Delivering more events and newer types of events will require a volunteerbase larger than what we had in the past. In addition to events, members ask for more programs that will help themenhance their professional skill set.

This demand offers many opportunities for our chapter to mature into a larger organization. The challenge to recruitmore volunteers translates into an opportunity to engage our members. These volunteer members will move forwardfrom just consuming services to actually enhancing existing services and in fact creating new ones.

The 2017-2018 Strategic Priorities and tactical goals will cater to most of the opportunities and address as manychallenges as we can.

As I take over the Presidency for your PMI MetroSt. Louis chapter in 2017, I am very excited to beworking with a great board and serve a chapterthat is growing at an amazing pace.
