Thanks to all who participated in our Envisioning 20/20 meetings. More than 125 attended each of the three. At the first, we talked about where we have been, as a church, and what our strengths have been. At the second, we talked about where we are and which of our ministries seem likely to flourish in the future. At the third, we talked about where we might go and the God-sized dreams that might take us there. Please turn them in to the church office or to any Envisioning 20/20 team member. At each meeting, the objective of the Envisioning 20/20 team was to listen to and learn from you without judgment or premature decisions. At the same time, we have been learning to listen for and discern God's will, to ensure that decisions we make -- as a congregation -- reflect God’s will rather than ours alone. This is a deeply rewarding experience, and it is one that we hope to share throughout the congregation, so that, in time, the God-sized decisions we make will share a unity of spirit if not always unanimity of opinion. Over the next several weeks, the Envisioning 20/20 team will be poring over hundreds of forms reflecting your memories of the church, your current perspectives, and your dreams for its future. On your behalf, we will synthesize everything we've learned to the best of our abilities; and then we will pray quietly, repeatedly, and in that quietude, we will listen for God’s will. Please join us in prayer in our efforts to reflect your will and to listen for and discern God's will, that we might serve God in unity of spirit.

Dear Friends in Christ,

It has been a joy to serve asParish Associate at First Presbyterian Church of Davenport over the past threeyears. What a privilege to serve alongside Rev. Richard Miller and our capable, caring and compassionate staff! It has given me an opportunity to preach to an intelligent, discerning andappreciative congregation, to deepen old friendshipsand form new ones in small group ministry.

As most of you know, my husband Tom retired lastMay, and this means that we will be doing moretraveling and spending more time with our growingfamily. For this reason I need to resign from myrole as Parish Associate.

I'm feeling called at this time to do pulpit supply inour Presbytery, so my Sundays will be spent in thatcapacity. I plan to continue to facilitate the two smallgroups of which I am a part and also to cherish themany sacred friendships I have with you at FirstPres.

Thank you for your openness to my ministry overthe past few years, and I look forward to sharing thefuture journey as your friend in Christ.

In His love,

Rev. Kristy Parker

Adult Christian Education (ACE) -- Opportunities to Grow in Life and Faith

Sunday Morning Von Maur Hall Series - 10:00 Am, Von maur hall

April 3, 10, 14, 24: In April there will be four sessions that focus on “Questions Rarely Discussedin Sunday School.” The presenter for these extensively researched classes will be Dave Fairweather.

• Do I have a soul?• What is the more common sin of Presbyterians?• Are near-death experiences real?• How can I best approach my critical illness and/or death?• Is there eternal life/heaven?

Each presentation will have print-outs of scriptures and thoughts of psychologists, doctors, philosophers, professors, priests, pastors, rabbisand hospice workers. Each session will have a printed summary of thepreceding week’s session. It is hoped that we can experience spiritualgrowth as we examine our questions, thoughts and beliefs.

From the book When Breath Becomes Air, discover “proof that thedying are the ones who have the most to teach us about life.” PaulKalanithi died in March, 2015. He was a neurosurgeon diagnosedwith stage IV lung cancer. It was important to him that his book,When Breath Becomes Air, be published. Atul Gawande wrote,

“Rattling, heartbreaking, and ultimately beautiful, the too-young Dr.Kalanithi’s memoir is proof that the dying are the ones who have the most to teach us about life.”Some of the statements and questions he openly presented in his book have been extracted for theACE discussions. His book is now on the New York Times bestseller list (March, 2016).

Tucker's Teaser ACE Poser Question for May Class: Who Died First?

On April 23, 1616, Miguel de Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote and considered by most thegreatest Spanish writer, died in his home country of Spain.

On April 23, 1616, William Shakespeare, considered by most the greatest English writer, died in hishome country of England.

Which of these two great authors died first? Jim Tucker will present the answer at the beginning ofACE on Sunday, May 1. Be on time because this will occur before the regular ACE session!

Wired Word Wednesdays Return on April 6! 6:00 pm, Fireplace room

Beginning on Wednesday, April 6 and continuing until May 11,Mark Jones will lead Wired Word Wednesdays! Discover national and world events in light of the Scriptures. Don't miss these lively discussions that begin at6:00 PM and are open to everyone.

Join in on conversations about current events and how our faith speaks to these issues. All are invited to come. We will meet in the Fireplace Room on the third floor of the education building.Classes will run each Wednesday for six weeks.

On April 6, we will talk about calls for decency in the presidential race. Are you tired of or maybeeven angry with the conduct of the presidential campaigns? How is Christianity portrayed in thisyear’s presidential race? Should churches or pastors defend their faith by calling out self-proclaimedChristian politicians for how they speak and act? What should we be looking for in our leaders?

A look ahead: On Wednesday, April 13, our topic will be “If I were a rich man (or woman)?” Whatwould you do with a big windfall? What are you doing now with your relative affluence? What doscriptures say about wealth?

Foundation of First presbyterian church hosts theKirkwood Tower circle recognition celebration

Sunday, April 3, 2016, 12:30 - 2:30 PM

Lardner Balcony at the Putman Museum1717 W 12th St, Davenport, IA 52804

Guest Speaker is Minner Serovy from the national Presbyterian Foundation

A light lunch will be served

Throughout the Church’s history, in both good and difficult times, faithfulmembers have financially supported the Church’s work. This has enabled the Church to share God’s love for more than 175 years. But long-term stability continues to be an issue. Each year during the annual StewardshipCampaign, the Church starts from zero to raise the necessary resources to sustain its work for the coming year and each year there are many unknowns which impact annual giving.

The goal of the Foundation is to provide for future needs which cannot be met through the annual campaign. The Foundation provides opportunitiesfor members to extend their giving, perhaps for use beyond their own lifetimes. It gives today’s faithful Christians an opportunity to leave a heartfelt legacy for subsequent generations of believers.
