School Newsletter: The Goldsmith Gazette Edition Number: 21 Date: Tues 26th April 2016 Dear Parents and Carers, This is a special edition newsletter to celebrate last week’s musical production of “Hoodwinked” and our “Best of British Week”. Our school musical featured over 70 children from year one to year six and was a huge success. It was great to see children excelling in the arts with their singing, dancing and acting skills shining through! With two elections on the horizon, the Queen’s 90th birthday, the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and St. Georges day, it was a good opportunity to celebrate the best of British! The children completed a piece of homework on the theme of “Best of British” and learned about the Queen, Shakespeare and British cyclists in Y5. Our school assemblies have also focussed on what it means to be British covering topics such as the suffragettes and the story of St. George. The children are learning more about democracy through our whole school election. Last week, each class selected their candidate to go into the election to become “Headteacher for the Day” later this term. On Friday 6th May, OGPS pupils will go to the polls to elect their winner! Watch this space for details! “Hoodwinked - The Story of Robin Hood”

With a cast of over 70 children ranging from year one to year six, bringing together the musical

production of “Hoodwinked” was quite a challenge. Rehearsals and auditions started back in

January with children giving up their time after school and at lunchtimes to learn their lines,

practice the songs and memorise the choreography! The final result was simply stunning with

parents, guests from Kingsbury High and Brent Music Service amazed at the high quality

performance they saw!

Our thanks to Miss McNeil, Mrs Palinda, Mr Ennis for all their hard work in preparing the children

for the production. We also thank Mrs McGrath, Mrs White, & Mrs Berry for their help with the

back drop art, scenery and props. It really was a team effort!

Best of British Week: Mon 18th March to Friday 22nd March 2016

With two elections on the horizon, the Queen’s 90th birthday, the 400th anniversary of Shake-

speare’s death and St. Georges day, it is a good opportunity to celebrate the best of British!

The children completed a piece of homework on the theme of “Best of British” last week and

learned about the Queen, Shakespeare and British cyclists. Our school assemblies have also

focussed on what it means to be British covering topics such as the suffragettes and the story of

St. George.

On Friday 22nd March, we completed the week with a special picnic tea party to celebrate the

Queen’s 90th Birthday. It was great to have so many parents come and join us for tea, scones

and jam; our spirits were not dampened by the weather!
