  • Terry and Kim Pegula share a love for the city of Buffalo that is

immeasurable and that passion along with their strong desire for success have had a dramatic impact on the Western New York region. They have provided much-needed stability and a wealth of resources to their teams and their city, while serving as a driving force behind the revitalization of the footprint of Buffalo.

Under the leadership, experience and vision of the Pegulas, the Bills along with their other business entities, constantly strive to innovate in order to build the most competitive organizations on and off the ield.

    EARLY BEGINNINGS

Raised in Carbondale, PA, a coal mining town, Terrys father worked as

a miner, truck driver and mechanic, while both of his grandfathers were miners. Terry attended Scranton Preparatory School and then Penn State University as a math major. But in order to stay in school, he entered the Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering program. He went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1973 and landed his

irst job with Getty Oil Co. in Victoria, TX. He later joined Felmont Oil Co., a decision that brought him to Olean, NY in 1975 and started his Western New York roots.

In 1983 he borrowed $7,500 from family and friends to create East Resources Inc., an independent oil and gas exploration and production company operating in the Appalachian Basin. Over the next 27 years Terry built it into one of the largest privately held companies in the United States. In July of 2010 Royal Dutch Shell purchased the assets of East Resources Inc., which continues to be active today.

Kims path to becoming the Pegula Sports & Entertainment CEO and owner of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres is equally, if not more unlikely than Terrysbeginning with her being abandoned on the streets of Seoul, South Korea at the age of ive before being adopted by Ralph and Marilyn Kerr.

Following her adoption, Kim grew up in Fairport, a suburb of Rochester, NY. She attended Houghton College and graduated in 1991 with a degree in communications.

  • After meeting Terry, Kim opted to put a broadcasting career on hold and began her professional career with East Resources in 1991where she stayed involved with the company until its sale in 2010.

    IT STARTED WITH THE GRASS

Back in 1983, Terry told his business partner Robert H. Long, Jr., If I ever

have more than two nickels to my name, Im going to buy the Buffalo Sabres one day. Almost 30 years later, Terrys dream came to fruition on February 22, 2011.

Upon the acquisition of the Sabres, Terry and Kim wasted no time putting their touch on the teamlaunching a series of renovations to the Sabres facilities, including a complete overhaul of the teams locker room.

In a recent feature with NFL Networks Mike Silver, Kim told the story of how early on in the Pegulas tenure as owners of the Sabres they realized the impact that small initiatives could have on Buffalo.

As Kim tells the story, Terry looked out the window [of his Sabres ofice], and at that time, it was like dirt and gravel, and he said, Hey, lets just put in some grass at least. And so we worked with the city, and Terry said, Ill pay for the grass. And once we put that grass in, it changed the mindset of that community, and you started seeing people come down there. And from that point on, it was a snowball effect. We have concerts down there now. And it has really been a great catalyst to say, Its OK to invest in Buffalo.

Terry and Kim did not let their vision be limited to just that patch of grass though,

instead choosing to pursue turning Buffalo into Hockey Heaven.

In August 2012, the Pegulas plan for HARBORCENTER was announced. A multipurpose facility that sits directly across from KeyBank Center, HARBORCENTER is anchored by two NHL-size ice rinks that are used

year-round by a variety of USA and international hockey teams and leagues.

In addition to the hockey facilities, HARBORCENTER includes (716), an upscale, sports-themed bar and restaurant, a one-of-a-kind Tim Hortons location that pays homage to the former Sabres player, retail stores including the healthy, quick-service restaurant Healthy Scratch, a parking structure and a 200-room, full-service Marriott hotel.

Terry and Kims efforts and vision quickly began to pay dividends as Buffalo was chosen to be the host city of the 2016

AND ONCE WE PUT THAT GRASS IN, IT CHANGED THE MINDSET OF THAT

COMMUNITY, AND YOU STARTED SEEING PEOPLE COME DOWN THERE.

  • NHL Draft and has been chosen as the site of the 2018 World Junior Ice Hockey Championshipswhich will include an outdoor matchup between Team USA and Team Canada at New Era Field. These events have enabled HARBORCENTER to attract approximately 100,000 visitors per year since 2014.

    ONE BUFFALO

A lready deeply ingrained in Buffalo via ownership of the Sabres, the Pegulas began to set their sights on taking yet another step in 2014.

With the possibility of being chosen as owners of the Buffalo Bills on the horizon, the Pegulas expanded their business interests in the summer of 2014 by forming Pegula Sports & Entertainmentnaming Kim as CEO.

PSE was designed to be and currently functions as a multifaceted parent company of the Pegulas different companies that brings together the individual resources, capabilities, and talents of each entity to create a cohesive and sustainable brand that together represents the Pegula familys interest.

Following the creation of PSE, on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, Terry and Kim, who lived in Buffalo during the Bills championship years in the 1990s, were voted in unanimously as only the second owners in the Buffalo Bills franchise history.

Upon the Pegulas purchase of the Bills in 2014, Kim led the push to develop a campaign that could bring the community together, unite our sports teams and promote our city.

Kims vision of creating a way to show pride in being part of the city of Buffalo and a Western New York regional resurgence culminated in a campaign called One Buffalo.

One Buffalo provides a link between Bills fans, Sabres fans, and the city of Buffalo, said Kim. We are all moving in the same direction: One Team; One Goal; One Community; One Family; One Buffalo. It is our goal to continue to contribute to the resurgence of Western New York, and we are very optimistic about the future. We are proud to be able to play a role in our citys redevelopment at a time when our community has never been closer together.

    ONE TEAM; ONE GOAL; ONE COMMUNITY;

    ONE FAMILY; ONE BUFFALO.

  • A NEW ERA

Two years after cementing the NFLs spot in Buffalo with their purchase

of the Bills, the Pegulas continued their efforts to revitalize the Western New York region by pairing with the Buffalo-based company New Era Cap to rename the Bills home New Era Field. It was important to the Bills organization that a stadium naming rights agreement made sense. In joining New Era today for this landmark announcement, we have a partner that makes sense on so many levels, said Terry. New Era is a company recognized for its integrity and quality on a global platform, while at the same time, representing the very fabric of Western New York. In partnering with our organization and the opportunities associated with the NFL brand, we feel that this agreement showcases two of the more recognized local brands not only for the beneit of our two franchises, but one that relects well on our entire community.

In addition to being amongst the leaders in the WNY revitalization, Kim has prided herself on being amongst the leaders in the sports and entertainment industry in terms of inding ways to improve and modernize the fan experience. Kims vision and efforts led to the launch of My One Buffaloa mobile application that provides fans with an opportunity to customize their fan experience while rooting for the Bills and Sabres.

The mobile app, which includes features from mobile ticketing to customized fan offers and alerts, was born from Kim challenging employees to transform the game day fan experience.

Despite being relatively new to the NFL ranks, the positive momentum that the Pegulas have been building for the league did not take long to be recognized as in February 2016 Terry and Kim were honored with the prestigious

Tank Younger Award by the Fritz Pollard Alliance.

Given to persons who display outstanding work on and off the ield in helping to level the playing ield in the NFL, the Pegulas were itting honorees in the wake of the promotion of Kathryn Smith, the irst full-time female NFL coach.

Terry and Kims NFL footprint can also be seen by the league boards that they have each been selected toincluding Terry on the NFLs Health and Safety committee and Kim on the NFL Foundation board and the Super Bowl & Special Events Committee.

The impact Terry and Kim have had on Buffalo in addition to the sports and entertainment world began in 2011 and has been gaining steam ever-since, gaining a wide array of plauditincluding tremendous praise from Dallas Cowboys owner and 2017 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Jones.

  • I think they walked in the room as top-10 NFL owners, maybe top-ive, said Jones. You can just see how theyre in step -- truly joined at the hip -- and to me, thats why theyre going to continue to be great NFL owners for a long, long time. Youve got that combination of entrepreneurship, passion and some serious imagination about what they want their product to be, and how it can beneit fans. And theyre such a great team -- he has that pragmatic engineering background, and she has exceptional people skills, and theyre both incredibly smart.

  • GIVING BACK

On September 17, 2010 Terry and Kim donated $88 million to Penn State

University -- the largest private gift in the history of the school -- to fund a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose arena and a world-class practice facility, to help establish an NCAA Division I mens hockey program. The Pegulas announced in 2012 they would increase their donation to the Nittany Lion hockey program to $102 million to allow for the endowment of student athlete scholarships.

Thanks to their generosity, Penn State has been able to add both mens and womens varsity hockey teams. Pegula Ice Arena, which opened in 2013 and enjoyed a sold-out 2013-14 season, includes two ice sheets and serves as the only major ice facility within an 80-mile radius of State College. In addition to providing hockey and igure skating opportunities for the entire Central Pennsylvania region, it is also used for a broad range of campus and community activities. In 2017, Penn State hockey won the Big Ten Championship and earned their irst NCAA Tournament berth.

In 2011 the Pegulas pledged $12 million for the construction of a

new athletic center on the campus of Houghton College, Kims alma mater. The second-largest gift in school history allowed Houghton to transition to NCAA Division III athletics.

The Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex formally opened on October 4, 2014. The project included the construction of both a new baseball and softball stadium, resurfacing of Burke Field (a multi-sport competition ield), and the construction of an 115,000-square-foot ieldhouse that will enable the college and region to host year-round athletic competitions. The ieldhouse features an eight lane, 200-meter regulation size track, ive tennis courts, cardio itness center, weight lifting room, MVP conference room, commercial kitchen and concessions, locker-room facilities, and ofice space. The facility provides dedicated practice space for outdoor sports over the winter and during inclement weather and also has the ability to host major concerts and events with a maximum capacity of more than 6,000 people.

During our search for a new General Manager, Brandon stood out to Kim and I as he embodies the type of leader and type of person we want in our organization, said Bills owner Terry Pegula. Brandon excelled in a variety of roles for a Panthers team that has consistently competed at a high-level in this league. We feel his vast understanding and experience in many facets of football operations will be invaluable to our club moving forward. We also believe his vision for the Buffalo Bills combined with his detailed approach will help build a foundation for sustained success.

Beane, who became the 13th general manager in Bills franchise history, gained valuable experience in many areas of the Panthers football operations. Working with former Panthers General Manager

Dave Gettleman and Head Coach Ron Rivera, Beane played a vital role in constructing the Panthers past six draft boards, has evaluated professional and collegiate players and worked closely with the football operations staff on the negotiation of player contracts.

Beane also worked closely with current Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott in Carolina, where McDermott served as defensive coordinator from 2011-16.
