Letter from the President…….Idaho CEC members,

I hope you get some relaxation time this summer! As you relax, your friendly CEC board is hard at work getting the October conference ready. This October we are expecting a wide variety of speakers and topics. The board is creating a schedule that has something for everyone! UDL, a little law, behavior, early childhood, SESTA, and more! Our theme this year is “Navigating a Sea of Change”. We will strive to help make sense of new legislation including the ESSA and new initiatives to close the literacy gap for students with disabilities. Stand by for more details as we work on finalizing the schedule.

Thank you for your service! Julian Duffey Idaho CEC President

The Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE) and the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) are excited to be hosting a joint conference that reflects the desired collaboration between local and state special education directors and their stakeholders. The conference will take place September 25-27, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee, WI. I am pleased to announce that as the Idaho CASE President the IASEA is sending me as a representative to the 2015 Legislative Summit in July. I am looking forward to representing Idaho along with a few other Directors on the needs of students with special needs in schools across the state.

The IASEA will also send the 2016-2017 CASE President to the CASE/ NASDE Conference in September in Millwaukee.

ITAG June 2016 Update ITAG has had a quiet Spring, but with many things in the works. We are excited to announce the funding of 2 full scholarships, including meals and board if needed, to Edufest 2016(July 25-29), for 2 or more RURAL teachers. Anyone interested in applying should go to this link: EDUFEST Scholarship Application, and go to www.edufest.org for conference information. ITAG is looking for a volunteer to organize and run the silent auction/raffle at Edufest. If we do not get a volunteer to do this, we will not have the auction/raffle this year. Betty Turner, from Collister Elementary in Boise, hosted a Regional Meeting in her classroom this Spring. It included a morning of art ideas, great conversation and a delicious lunch. This was sponsored by ITAG. In our goal of reaching teachers throughout the state, we hope to host more Regional Meetings. Anyone interested in having a meeting in your area, please let us know. [email protected] ITAG is working with the Boise School District to encourage BSD employees that are attending edufest to, “Bring a Friend to Edufest”. Funds will be used to cover the cost of these teachers. Our hopes are to reach more gen ed, ELL and Title teachers. Finally, the Super Conference, on October 6-7, 2016 in Boise, will have many fabulous speakers. ITAG will be hosting the topic, Twice Exceptional and Reluctant Writers. This will be presented by Robin Sly and Sherrie Dismuke. The conference will be held at Timberline High School 701 E Boise Ave, Boise, ID 83706. ITAG is still searching for Board Members. We have at least 3 spots to fill. Check us out on our Facebook page or website www.itagsage.org.

Idaho DADD Spring 2016 Newsletter

I hope all of our higher education members are enjoying the summer break and all of the K-12 teachers are successfully finalizing the school year! I also hope, we all will be able to take a well-deserved break to relax and recharge before the new school year!

Idaho DADD board members have been busy planning a DADD strand for the CEC conference in the fall. We will have five presentations including a panel focused on problem solving of any issues teacher participants will want to discuss, so please join us and let’s brainstorm all of your classroom needs. Our other presentations will feature state experts on autism and developmental disability and will focus on many current trends and strategies, including but not limited to video modeling, gaming, behavioral challenges, and more.

As your president, I represented Idaho DADD at the national CEC conference where I took an opportunity to get more involved with the “big” (national level) DADD. I discussed our subdivision with the DADD president, Dr. David Cihak and connected with leaders in other states. We are going to create a network of leaders who collaborate on addressing statewide membership needs and prepare professional development.

Lastly, we have been busy updating our website and planning a social event for fall. Please stay tuned for details regarding our social during fall CEC conference! If you haven’t checked out Idaho CEC website recently, please make sure you visit: http://www.idahocec.org/idadd/resources/

Hope to see you all in October at our state CEC conference!

Your iDADD president, Dr. Alex Hollingshead

Hi! Iʼm Kristie, and I help inspired educators, who desperately want to see all children thrive.

I provide training, tools, and other resources to support educators in dealing with high-stakes accountability mandates, to push against pressures to “ready” children for Kindergarten, and to address the diverse learning needs of children through intentional teaching delivered within the context of everyday activities…including play. I have over 20 years of experience in teaching and supporting early educations. Iʼve prepared 100ʼs of masterʼs degree and doctoral students, and 1000ʼs of teachers, assistants, and related service providers across 29 states and four countries. I have a Ph.D. in early intervention from the University of Oregon, where I studied under the legendary Dr. Diane Bricker, a pioneer for inclusion and embedding instruction during play. I have published five books, six chapters and monographs, and 30 peer reviewed articles. I have received 5 million in federal and state grants/contracts, and am a past president of the Council for Exceptional Childrenʼs Division for Early Childhood.

And when Iʼm not teaching, speaking, writing, or creating solutions to change classroom practices from the inside out, Iʼm hanging out in my log house with my husband of 25 years (yes, I was 12 when I got married) and our dog, just south of Cleveland, Ohio.

We are so excited to announce this yearʼs Idaho CEC Fall Conference keynote speaker...

Kristie Pretti-Frontczak, PH.D
