As they finished theirone-year update of the citysbiennial budget, various CityCouncil members said themajor increase in funding tosupport affordable housing wasthe single biggest item in therevised spending plan.
At the urging of Deputy CityManager Lyman Howard, thecouncil upped its donation to ARegional Coalition for Housing better known as ARCH
from $10,000 to $100,000.Howard is chair of the
ARCH board of directors. Ata budget hearing before thecouncil on Nov. 10, he arguedthe citys planned $10,000contribution was not in keep-ing with the donations of sur-rounding cities.

Andwhiletheearth isstillmov-ing,thatmovementisso slightitis considerednegligible,saidconsultantsbroughtinby thecityandthedeveloper ofthesite.

Thecityissued apartialcease-workordertothedeveloperim-mediatelyfollowingthelandslide.Theorderwasonlyapartialorderascrewsneedtobe abletoworkonmitigationand monitor-ingefforts,Niven said.
Oneof two geotechnicalcon-sultants hiredby the city,JamesJohnson of Golder Associates,saidinvestigators stillhaveno clear ideaof whatcausedthelandslide.Hedidsay thecity anddeveloper conductedgeotechnicalstudies of thesite,
justas was donethroughouttheTalus development.He saidthehillsideshowed no unusualsusceptibility to landslides.

Winter Magicwill once againreturnto Snoqualmie,with theopeningofa larger,improvedice rink to be placedin twodifferent locations duringthemonthof December.
The Snoqualmie CityCouncil votedto approve the$55,000 purchase ofthe syn-theticice rink duringits Oct.6meeting.
About $42,000ofthe pur-chase will go to the 1/2-inchthick synthetictiles thatform the rinks base andtheirshipment,and the remain-ing$13,000 will go to fenc-ing,tents andstaffing for the
three-week event,said LizzyBillington,events coordinator.
The quality ofthe rink istwice as thick as last year andofmuch better quality for iceskaters,she said.
This year,the rink measures3,600 square feet double thesize oflast years ice rink toaccommodate community feed-back that askedfor more roomfor older childrenand adults,Billingtonsaid.
Whiletherinkisinthehis-toricdistrictofSnoqualmie,itwillmeasure30feetby120feet.Whenitmoves totheRidgeAmphitheaterin SnoqualmieRidgeonDec.22,itwillbesepa-ratedintotwo rinksthatmeasure30feetby50feetandarejoined

Advertising Policiesa. The Publisher reserves the right to revise or reject, at his or her own optio
any advertisement found to be objectionable, or detrimental to businessb. The Publisher shall be under no liability for failure to publish or insert any
advertising.c. The Publishers liability for error shall not exceed the value of the space
occupied by the error. Advertiser assumes all liability for true, factual andlegal copy provided for any advertisement.
d. Advertising designed to appear as news must carry the words PaidAdvertisement at the top of the ad in at least 7 point type and the ad mube bordered.
e. If an advertiser places less advertising than contracted, the advertiser wilbe charged the differential between the contract rate and the open rate.
f. Proof ads are limited to one per ad. Proofs are for the purpose of makingcorrections, not making copy changes or design changes. Redesigns andremakes subject to $75.00 per hour art fee.
g. Any ad canceled or redesigned after graphics work is complete will becharged a $75.00 per hour art fee.
h. All layouts, illustrations and composition representing the creative effortof Issaquah Press, Inc. are the sole property of the publisher and may notbe reproduced without prior consent.
Credit Policiesa. All rates are net and non-commissionable, except for 15% discount allow
for national/agency rates.b. Payment in advance is required for political ads, going-out-of-business ad
ads from outside our market area and new businesses until credit isapproved. New advertisers must prepay at least first 30 days of advertisin
c. An Issaquah Press Inc. credit application must be completed andsigned before credit is granted.
d. Payment accepted by cash, check, Visa or MC.
e. Commercial accounts are payable in full the 20th of the month followingpublication. A 1.5% monthly interest rate (18% per annum) is charged onpast due accounts. A $50 fee is added for NSF checks.
