KIDS IN NEED FOUNDATION 2016 ANNUAL REPORT

We would like to present you with the Kids In Need Foundation Annual Report. As you read, we hope you are as pleased as the Board of Directors and staff are with the progress we are making to accomplish our mission: to ensure that every child is prepared to learn and succeed in the classroom by providing free school supplies nationally to students most in need. In 2016, we broke records! We procured and distributed nearly $130 million in schools supplies to 5.4 million students and assisted 180,000 teachers.

We are grateful to individual and corporate donors, sponsors, and partners for elevating our efforts to reach these new heights. Our partners include a major national retail chain, which helps offer materials specifically for improving the health of students served by the KINF National Network of Resource Centers, a major television network that has launched an online giving program, a national chain of craft stores that channels millions of dollars worth of product into needy classrooms, and the Association of Creative Industries that is helping to advance creativity in the classroom and access to quality art supplies.

Our National Network of Resource Centers continues to grow and provide free school supplies to teachers and students across the country. We added 3 new Centers and distributed supplies to more than 3 million students through our 40 Resource Centers. Many of the staff and volunteers from these Centers attended the 2016 KINF Summit, hosted by the North Texas Teacher Resource Center, to share their most recent successes and best practices, supporting the efficiency and growth of the entire Network.

Our two backpack giveaway programs, School Ready Supplies and Second Responder®, remain the best means of getting supplies to students whose teachers do not have access to Resource Centers or who have been affected by natural disasters, respectively. Sponsored School Ready Supplies events distributed 56,000 backpacks in 2016. Students and teachers in 12 states received supplies through the Second Responder® program after they had been displaced from their classrooms as a result of extreme weather conditions.

The Board and staff of KINF developed a new strategic plan in 2016 to guide us through the next four years. We are on solid ground, and with the contributions of time, talent, and resources from all of you who believe school supplies do change lives, KINF will continue to ensure the success of more and more students every year.

We have audited the statements of financial position of Kids In Need Foundation as of December 31, 2016 and 2015, and the related statements of activities and cash flows for the years then ended (not presented herein). These financial statements are the responsibility of the Company’s management. Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audits.

We conducted our audits in accordance with auditing standards generally accepted in the United States of America. Those standards require that we plan and perform the audits to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free of material misstatement. An audit includes examining, on a test basis, evidence supporting the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. An audit also includes assessing the accounting principles used and significant estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall financial statement presentation. We believe that our audits provide a reasonable basis of our opinion.

The condensed statements of financial position as of December 31, 2016 and 2015, and the related condensed statements of activities for the years ended are presented in summary and, therefore, do not include all of the information required by accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America. In our opinion, because of the significance of the omission of the information referred to in the preceding paragraph, the condensed financial statements, referred to above, do not present fairly, in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America, the financial position of Kids In Need Foundation as of December 31, 2016 and 2015, or the change in its net assets or its cash flows for the years then ended.
